Amazing ^_^ I had a craving for crabs however, I settled for crab cakes. I found this place on Unilocal from my fellow Unilocalers raving about this place; so I told my boyfriend that we had to try this place ASAP but he didn’t trust the location, I told him I trust my Unilocalers reviews!!! We came here on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and used a Groupon with no problems. We ordered a jumbo lump crab cake with a bun, hush puppies, crab cheesy melt, and seasoned fries. I have to say the crab cake was huge, when I say huge meaning I couldn’t take a whole bit of the sandwich. I mean I was amazed how huge it was and how there’s a lot of crab meat instead of just filling. OMG I was definitely stuffed after that. The only thing I had a problem with was was the bun, it was pretty hard. The hush puppies OMG the hush puppies was everything. We ordered another side of hush puppies to go. Yes, it was that good. My boyfriend enjoyed the crab cheesy melt, I had a piece and it was pretty good. Also the seasoned fries was okay, it would have been better if it was piping hot(it was lukewarm). He was definitely skeptical about this place being in SE since he had a bad experience with takeout food. But he was totally shocked how amazing the food was. The inside is pretty small, they have chairs and tables to sit and enjoy your food. The wait time for the food wasn’t long, maybe 15 minutes. I will definitely come here again.

First thing I noticed when I walked in was the water donation sign for Flint, Michigan. I love that they are doing this and offering their customers 10% off their orders with a water donation. They also only charge $ 1(no tax) for bottled water. I ordered the Big Boy Sampler, which came with 2 big crab cakes, shrimp, 2 fillets of whiting and crab fries, which were all really good. It was enough food to feed 2 people. Their special sauce is really what makes the food good. So if you decide to give them a try, be sure to buy extra sauce.

This food was really good. We had the Marion Barry Fried(chicken sandwich) and it was so so delicious. We also had the crab grilled cheese which was very good as well. And of course we had the crab fries, which almost ruined my relationship bc we fought over the last few fries! One star off because my sandwich came out cold, but the staff was really accommodating and took it right back and gave me a new one that was hot and tasty. We’re definitely going back… I want to try everything on the menu!

So first off, this place isn’t anywhere near Capitol Hill. It’s in the heart of Anacostia. The name confuses me… where is the Anacostia pride? Although known for their crab cakes, I haven’t tried them yet. The salmon, however, was so delicious. Glazed with mumbo sauce(so DC!), it was perfectly cooked. Fried shrimp were also delicious. Prices aren’t bad and they’re even more reasonable with the Groupon. You order at the window and can either carry-out or eat at one of the 4 or 5 tables. It’s definitely a «no frills» atmosphere, but at least there’s somewhere to sit and eat(rare for DC carryouts). I’m just gonna come right out and say it… I’m white and from the District, and some white folks don’t ever venture to far SE. Folks, there’s nothing to be scared of. Maybe my perceptions are different because I’m a city guy, but I think the block is safe, even at night, and the Washingtonians from this area are some of the nicest and friendliest people. Please don’t let your fears of far SE make you overlook hidden gems like this spot.

Let start off by saying this place is «what you say Hammer… proper!!» The crab fries are everythang and yes«thang», I hoped they would be! They use the right roll for the shrimp and crab roll(hoping the bring in lobster), they use QUALITY crab meat and their whiting was tasty! Oh did I mention that they are generous with their portions and reasonably priced!!!(High Five for not being stingy with the crab) Sorry we ate to fast to take pics. We will take some at our next visit which should be very soon!

The sautéed spinach are awesome!!! Crabs have lumped meat. However, the cheesy crab melt is far from cheesy… not good if you’re looking for«cheesy» as the menu indicates. Also, the shrimp and grits has a tomato based sauce. I personally didn’t like it, but it at least has big pieces of shrimp… just too saucy! With the Groupon I’d return but if I had to pay full price… no way! Might as well go to a restaurant not a carryout.

Finally… A place to get a bangin’ crab cake and I don’t have to drive 40 mins. to Baltimore to get one! Capitol Hill Crab Cakes is legit folks. Thanks to Groupon for putting me on to this great find. I came here yesterday and had one of the best crab cakes that I have had in a long while. After leaving a music festival in this neighborhood, my friends and I were starving! I remembered that I had a Groupon to this place and suggested we try it. And, so glad we did. We ordered a heap of food, where we ended up trying some of everything from the menu! We ordered the: * Fried Shrimp Basket * Plump, jumbo shrimp. It was lightly breaded, fresh tasting and really good! It came with seasoned fries which were great too. * Fried Chicken Basket w/Seasoned Fries * Crispy Chicken. Brined, somewhat seasoned and not too salty. Be sure to specify the pieces(parts) of chicken you would like. A 4-piece(pc) does not necessarily mean a Breast, Thigh, Leg and Wing! * Whiting Platter w/Seasoned Fries & Hush Puppies * Cooked to golden perfection. Although tasty, I would say the only disappointment was that the portions were slim. The portions(3 pcs) do not measure up to the price! But, its all good because the hush puppies made up for it. The hush puppies were outstanding. They were so crispy on the outside and moist, tender on the inside with sweet corn, onion, cornmeal and honey goodness! Oh my God, just thinking about these things is making my mouth water while writing this review. I would drive back to this place for them alone! * Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes * Outstanding! The best all-round dish we ordered. We order two platters. One with a side of the Seasoned Fries and the other… of, course with the no-brainer –delicious hush puppies! The crab cake was everything! The crab cake consists of mostly crab meat, bound together with little bread in a Onion/Dijon/lemon base and lightly fried. It was huge and meaty with lump crab pieces you can see and very little filler. The Old Bay which I can taste added to the overall taste, but was not salty. It was cooked just the way I like it with sweet flavor, crispy edges on the outside and moist tender crab lump and picked crab ganging-up on my tongue with flavor on the inside. The size and portion was well worth it. In all, great food… in a great area that is changing for the better. I was very pleased. I also was impressed by the food and quality. They are not skimping or cutting corners, serving cheap or frozen seafood here. The establishment is clean, inviting and the staff are very friendly. Most importantly the prices were fair, given the quality and the food was DELICIOUS! I am glad to see such a cool addition to the Historic Anacostia, section of southeast(SE), DC which«used» to get such a bad wrap! That is no longer the case and the change is for the better with places like Capitol Crab Cakes. Try this place out for yourself… you will be hooked!

Crab cakes were good and so were the crab fries. My fish was a little on the dry side and the parking isn’t great, but I would go back. My co-workers had salads and they looked really good! a bit pricey

This was my coworker and I’s first time here. I’ve seen a few Instagram posts about this place and decided to drag my coworker along. I ordered the crab fries and the 5 piece(regular wings). Crabs fries — they were so good! Perfect amount of remoulade and crabs topped over SEASONED fries. Wings — meh… when they say regular they definitely mean regular lol… no seasoning whatsoever. They were big, juicy, and golden brown… but bland. Ask for hot sauce or house sauce if you do get them. Overall, it was a great lunch choice. I will definitely be back for the crab fries. Oh and a FYI, they open at 11am but they were running a little behind. So don’t think that they’re closed like we did…

I love supporting black owned businesses and it was very refreshing to hear it was a crabcake spot of all places!! They have food for both shellfish & non shellfish lovers, so everyone can enjoy. My family and I tried a few things: Pros –Fried chicken was very well seasoned –Kale greens had a light, but still flavorful taste –Crab fries were good & the aioli sauce was a nice added touch –Crab cake was nice(it has a little filler, but not too much though) very nice options –Fried shrimp were good –Fish was seasoned well(nice-sized portions) –The big boy was enough food for about 2 – 3 ppl –great customer service –the wait was not bad considering the food was made fresh –price not too bad considering how pricey seafood can be Cons –none Just wish they had a menu I could take home, but they ran out Added touch/bonus: The owner of store & his son checked on orders, took the tickets, checked to make sure the food was right before you left, advised everyone to have a blessed evening and thanked each customer for stopping by. Let me just say, great customer service is hard to find and you’ve definitely earned a loyal customer for that alone.

I went back with my Groupon and I was just as satisfied as I was before. Kudos to the owners that are from the immediate area like me. The owner had slipped out just before I was able to ask about the precarious name of the restaurant, LOL! Definitely visit if you are in the area!

This place is a true WINNER! I’ve been here about 6 times so I already knew they had some if the best crab cakes in town but yesterday I tried the fried chicken and WOW! Omg. B O M B! Went here with my friend yesterday who bought a 5 piece, gave me one wing to try and and pulled off. After making love to the wing shown in pic in my car, I went right back in and ordered a 5 piece for myself to take home. BESTFRIEDCHICKEN, outside of a gourmet restaurant, in town! Brined, juicy, seasoned perfectly… YUM! I’m lowkey wondering if the cook is married because… LOL #takeme Oh yeah back to the the crab cakes… They are delicious! And if you like kale greens and hush puppies and make I’d recommend that exact combo. They have the best kale and amazing hush puppies. You will not be disappointed I’ve have also tried the fried fish sandwich which was excellent! Good looking out Capitol Hill Crab Cakes!

The restaurant is clean and bright. It seems to be one of the new establishments in the area but I am only guessing. I love the menu, which has a great selection of seafood options. Everything I ordered was fresh.(I ordered Fish and Grits w/crab fries). My friends ordered a special called Big Ray which included a crab cake(read: humongous lump crab cake) and shrimp, crab legs and a potato. We all agreed it is some of the best affordable seafood around. We were definitely pleased. Hell i would give them a 5 for the SHRIMPANDGRITS alone!

This business is located in the heart of Anacostia. I purchased a Groupon after seeing so many raves about the food and wanted to support. The people were friendly. I got the salmon, my Mom got the fries whiting. The crab cake looked good, it was huge and I’ll be sure to try it next time around. It’s small but there’s seating for those who may want to sit, eat and watch tv. I will frequent this place as long as I have a deal and if I’m in the area considering that it’s across town. The parking is scarce so we parked across the street I the neigh good beside the church. Overall we had a pretty good experience.

This place is no where near Capitol Hill. It’s actually in Anacostia which is about a hour walk away. We took a Über there from Georgetown. We had a Groupon and the picture looked so good on the Groupon, we had to try it! The place is a little hole in the wall. There is only room for a few tables. There is a glass window where you place your order. I had a hard time choosing because everything sounded so good. I ended up getting the shrimp and crab rolls. It came with two so I split one with my daughter. It had lumps of crab meat and shrimp. It made me regret not ordering the crab cakes since the crab was so good! The hubby had the Jerk chicken which came with greens. Amazing! The older daughter got the crab fries. Again, delish! It was well worth the hour or so walk we took back to the city. You must stop here while in DC. Everything is very affordable and fresh.

Seen reviews, it’s located in my neighborhood &&& I LOVE crab cakes, so I decided to give them a Try! I liked the fact that I can call in my order I called in, asked for the crab cake sandwich, the girl stated it comes with fries! Cool! I asked total for the sandwich and fries, she stated $ 18 and some change! … I paused, then said OK, but, almost $ 20 for just a crab cake & fries? I mean it’s not even a dine in restaurant, it’s a take out place, but again, these reviews/pictures got the best of me so I decided, F**K it! I want the crab cake! I told my hubby:“Jesus himself better come down and touch the cook as he’s preparing that crab cake for my $ 20″ don’t mean to sound cheap, but I work hard for my money, so YES… When I first seen the crab cake I looked at it for a while trying to decide how I was going to bite into it!(it’s huge)! They give you Plenty, easily enough for 2 people! 4 stars for customer service 3 ½ stars for Crab cake(taste) 5 stars for fries 2 stars for coleslaw(very bland) 5 stars for wait time Was a little irritated that it was no ketchup, fork, or NAPKINS in bag!!! I won’t hold it against them this time! The place seem to get a lot of business. Not hooked, YET, but I may give them another try, but will order something else or skip the coleslaw! 4 stars

Spotted this place as we were leaving the Anacostia Arts Center after Unilocal’s Totally Bazaar and thought it looked promising from the Unilocal reviews! The food was, admittedly, quite good(although the prices were a little surprisingly high, tbh), but we found the service/environment — even as a casual joint — a little bit lacking. We got the shrimp po’ boy, crab cake, and seasoned fries. All were very good, and the crab cake was super crabby, with very little filling, and well-seasoned. My brother said the po’ boy was very tasty too. All our food, however, came out at different times, and it seemed like they never really remembered what we ordered(even when we were the only 3 people in there). They also kept the door to the kitchen locked to the point of inconvenience — every time someone came out to bring us our food(which happened 3 separate times for 3 separate items), the door locked behind them, and they had to knock and ask for them to open it again. You also had to order from a person sitting behind glass… felt more like you were at a bank than a casual little restaurant. I am not in Anacostia that often, so I can’t say that I’ll likely be back anytime soon, but I give them full marks for the deliciousness of the food, and just a couple of stars off for the weirdness of the ambiance/setting/service and the prices. All in all, though, everything was A-OK!
