My favorite bar in DC. Atmosphere is chill; not too quiet or loud. Whiskey selection is excellent. Happy hour(food and drinks) is cheap and delicious.

Get drunk quickly to forget you’re surrounded by unfriendly and inattentive bartenders. I didn’t finish the chili half-smoke(a hotdog) and fries, and you won’t either. A decent, albeit small, selection of drafts was one redeeming quality.

While visiting, my friends and I wandered over to Boundary Stone for Sunday brunch and we were so happy we did! Honey hot chicken sandwich + blue cheese dressing: delicious. Pretty hot, I would have personally loved more honey, but so good. Bottomless Bloody Marys and mimosas: of course they were amazing. Mimosas come in a smaller cup, Bloody Marys are in a full size drinking glass. Chicken and French toast: my fiancé had it and that chicken was amazing. French toast looked good, but more like cinnamon toast than actual French toast– it wasn’t very custard-y on the inside. But was is good? Yes. **Homemade ketchup is amazing. It is sweet and has a smooth texture and I loved it. Really cool décor on the inside. Would love to go back for dinner and try all of the other things! One downside is that the pricing may be a little steep for what you’re getting, but in a city that’s usually the case. Five stars because our waiter was a star– he was kind, patient, answered all of our menu questions, and helped us with questions about the area. He was just genuinely nice to us, and I love that!

Boundary Stone is one of the staples of Bloomingdale. I have never been a huge fan of their food, but it’s a nice place to drink due to a cool bar and intimate environment. I hadfried pickles — which were terrible because they were too thinly sliced. To note, Boundary Stone is known for having the best chicken wings in the district. I have had them before and they were spectacular, so it might be worth venturing back for that alone.

BEST Veggie burgers in town and outdoor seating! Boundary Stone topped the metro paper for its veggie burger and whiskey bar, so I decided to try it out, satisfying my veggie needs and my boyfriends’ affinity to whiskey. Boundary Stone is nestled in the quiet neighborhood of Bloomingdale — street parking was easy to find and there were dogs on the patio. I went Saturday evening, and we were able to find an empty table outside — which was really nice. It wasn’t too crowded. I ordered a veggie burger and split it with my boyfriend and substituted salad for fries — which was surprisingly filling for both of us. The quinoa patty was scrumptious and the goat cheese added a nice touch of flavor. I enjoyed the fries — hand-cut and not too greasy. The sauce is good too — not the typical ketchup sauce, but a nice marinara. We also got such honey-mustard, which was kind of spicy. We also had a side order of brussels sprouts — which was a bit sweet, but not oily and a good portion size. I ordered a grapefruit rum cocktail — can’t remember the name of it and it’s not on the menu outside. It was delicious and refreshing. My boyfriend had $ 20 whiskey(can’t remember the name of it), but he liked it. Overall, we had a satisfying meal sitting outside in this local neighborhood and we’ll be back! I might not share my veggie burger this time ;)

Went here on a week night with a friend, we got some drinks and food. Nice décor & rustic vibe. My Italian hoagie was very good and my friend got the sirloin with butter spinach… tried some of hers and the spinach was amazing! My hoagie was tasty, was expecting a bit more for the price. Drink specials and the salads are pricy but it’s a nice place to try something different. Our server was awesome and he made sure to keep the water and drinks coming!

We were there during a game and live music(open mic). I asked the server if they had any specials(because the place was extra packed). You would think with open mic it would be empty. She said no specials, that happy hour was over. Later, I asked why it was so busy. She said, «Oh, we have ½ price drafts tonight, that’s why everyone is here.» This is after our table all ordered beer in cans. We would have saved about 60 bucks if we knew this. I specifically asked. Still pissed. Everything else was good.

Yesterday night around 930PM two of my friends and I decided to go grab some food. We all live and grew up in the area, but this was our first time eating here. We entered and sat down with no problems. However, our waiter was a bit rude and we felt that vibe the minute she stated her name. She decided to take our drink menu without even asking if we wanted drinks. She was very irritated at the fact that I wanted to add various things to my veggie burger, which we could all tell by her body language. She was not very friendly at all. I asked her for hot sauce, and she took almost 10 minutes to bring it. While still eating she decided to give us all of our checks split without even asking if wanted them split and we didn’t even finish eating yet! It was not near closing time. The food was very bland. The veggie burger was very mushy! My friend was overwhelmed by her chicken sandwich, and my other friend got a salad which was drenched in dressing. None of us were satisfied. The only thing that was OK were the fries, which can be made anywhere. This isn’t even the worst part. After we left, we all sat our checks on the table SIGNED and all. We were across the street, maybe even up a little more and we hear someone yelling behind us. The security guard is accosting us with a flashlight, claiming that we did not sign the checks. After we told him we did we were all confused and decided to go back across the street to figure out the situation. He then confronted us to say that his reason for accosting us was he thought we TOOK the checks. I don’t believe he told us the real reason for him chasing us. Being as though only two of us paid with a card and one of us had cash. I mean this is a little ridiculous. When did security guards start chasing customers down the street with a flashlight like we did something wrong? Made us all feel very UNCOMFORTABLE . We will not be returning to this establishment EVER. Also just as another previous Unilocal review, we are all sad about the gentrification in our neighborhood. You would think the employees of this establishment would accept us as long term residents, but I guess not!

This was a little piece of home in DC — I felt like I could’ve been in Brooklyn eating at this excellent bar. My friends and I had just run a half marathon and boy were we hungry! We started off with fried pickles(yum yum yum!!!). I devoured a cheesesteak which was off the hook good — I later found out the owner was from Philly so that explained its epic goodness. To tell you the truth, I don’t know what my friends ordered as I was partially delirious from my run and lack of food. I wish this place was in my neighborhood as I’d be a regular fly at this bar. The waiter was super-cool and funny — the ambiance… industrial-cozy.

Wanted to try a place in the Bloomingdale area and came across this one… Sounded interested with the pub like atmosphere but good food. We ordered: 1. Pork burger– brother said it was delicious and tasty — fries were soggy though 2. Fried chicken sandwich– nicely flavored and juicy! It was a thick chicken breast 3. Hot wings– we tried the seitan ones because I wanted to see if it was like the best seitan buffalo wings(watercourse restaurant in Denver)– it was good but came in small chunks instead of longer strips so the presentation could be improved 4. Brussel sprouts– I actually found them a little too sweet– reminded me of the sauce they put on Chinese broccoli at dim sum It’s a bit dark inside he bar but the ambience is right. Stop by if you’re in the area!

We popped in for a late dinner and were seated on the quieter side of the restaurant. Everyone raves about the Honey Hot Wings, and my husband is a wing-a-holic so he had to order them :) They’re sweet and spicy, but not too spicy, and are served with a house-made bleu cheese dressing. I loved the fried pickles(cornmeal breading) and honestly could have eaten the whole basket by myself, but my pesky dinner companions were nibbling on them, too ;-) The veggie burger wasn’t anything to write home about, it was OK. The service was great and the drinks were spectacular! Next time we’re in DC, we’ll be back!

I ate brunch/lunch here, and it was fine. Unfortunately that’s really all I have to say about this restaurant. It was a little too dim for lunch and the chairs weren’t very comfortable. Their menu seems interesting and varied when you read it, but my friend and I got different burgers and both got basic burgers with 2 – 3 toppings. I got the pork burger and it was literally a cheeseburger with two slices of pork on top. My friend got the barbecue burger and it was a plain burger with BBQ sauce and red onions. I mean, they were fine burgers, but if half your menu is burgers they should be a little more stand-out and distinct from each other. The fries were good, but the ketchup was watery. I got a Bloody Mary which was pretty good and my friend got a mimosa, which was delicious but came in a tiny glass. Fine, if you’re doing the bottomless($ 12) deal, but if you’re not, it’s not a lot of mimosa for the($ 8) price. The one thing I did really enjoy was our service. Our waiter was great: attentive, friendly, and seemed to really care that we enjoyed ourselves. While we didn’t get to speak to the bartender, our drinks came quickly and were well made. I don’t see myself going back here again. It wasn’t a bad experience but really didn’t stand out at all. I could see it being fun as a bar later on in the day, but for lunch, it wasn’t much.

1. I am very sad about gentrification in DC. It makes me really really unbelievably sad to see this neighborhood change overnight to exclude almost all brown skinned people. REALLY sad. 2. I love good neighborhood bar. The drinks were strong and the service was friendly and down-to-earth. It’s within walking distance of my building and even though we were the only black people there… maybe there were two others, it was a homey vibe. 3. The food was ok. Not the most flavorful I’ve eaten, Brooklands Finest definitely has some tastier bites. In all fairness, I didn’t really try anything different so I would be interested in their wings and their loaded fries. I may be back because it’s conveniently located and parking isn’t a hassle.

I lived nearby and have been several times out of convenience and because of friends but every time I tell myself I’m never eating there again. Well I’m serious this time, this was it! Huevos rancheros just did. not. cut it. At all. Everything I’ve ever eaten from their kitchen has desperately needed… flavor. And they’re always out of half the menu items which is frustrating with already limited choices. Cool enough place for a drink of bourbon or rye(good prices!) but I am absolutely baffled at all the 4&5 star reviews; I’d put it just a step above Shaw’s Tavern. I’d guess it’s mostly the people who live within walking distance and know the staff & dig the vibe so it feels comfortable. Admittedly, its a decent *bar* to have around the corner; but, personally, I wouldn’t recommend anyone come out of their way.

Their Honey Hot Chicken sandwich is the best I’ve ever had.(Noses out even Chick-Fil-A!) Perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and coated in just the right amount of «buffalo-like, but not» sauce — the flavor isn’t overbearing, and won’t singe your taste buds. Friendly, attentive service, even while sitting outside. Great local beers and spirits. Vegetarian-friendly options, free range wings, etc. too. The only thing *not* perfect about Boundary Stone is its popularity! It would be great if they could expand to meet the ever-popular demand. I’ve been here a half-dozen times for a variety of events, and have always had a great experience. They even support local nonprofit groups by hosting fundraisers. Five stars. Get over here if you haven’t yet.

My first experience at Boundary Stone after hearing about their critically acclaimed wings. Of course I ordered the wings. They come with hot and sweet sauce that has a little kick, but nothing to worry about even for the cautious eaters. I enjoyed them, although I didn’t think they were anything special. I ordered the pork entrée, which I though was good. The grits were creamy and delicious. The brussels sprouts were great too. If giving any criticism, it was a touch salty, although think most people would be happy with it. The staff was friendly, although oddly asked if we wanted the dessert menus while we were working on our entrees(fork and knife in hand). It seems like a great neighborhood spot!

Boundary Stone is situated between the boundary of NE and NW and hence the name of the Resto-bar. This is a major hipster joint, but in a good way. There are other hipster joints in the DMV that are just pretentious but this place is the real deal. Although on the weekends, there’s plenty of hipster activity, there is a varied crowd, which is always good. I’ve been here on both the weekdays for lunch and weekends for dinner and whether it’s day or night, I’ve always had a great time. In fact, I brought my Mexican and French friends here when they were in town and they loved it. I would probably go there more often for the food except it is somewhat out of my way and I hate driving on Rhode Island avenue because of the speed or red light cameras in DC. Anyhow, this is definitely one of the better restobars in the area. Good stuff.

This review is a long time overdue and I’ve always had a great time here. I brought my friends from Mexico and they loved and I’ve been here with a group of friends and we always have a great time. Just a tip: if you get here on busy weekends, make sure you try to park one or two blocks on one of the side streets and beware of the red light cameras in Rhode Island avenue.

Boundary Stone is a classic example where the wonderful atmosphere, service, whiskey selections are ruined by a lack of good food, draft beer selections, cocktail or wine. Exhibit A: fried pickle was over fried and didn’t taste fresh Exhibit B: seitan wings were cut into kid-bite sizes(why!?) Exhibit C: loaded fries were extremely watery Exhibit D: pork roll burger didn’t come with pickles, mustard or BBQ sauce, despite the menu description. And the taste was no better than what you’d get from any neighborhood burger joint. Exhibit E: we ordered a red wine, cocktail and a beer on tap — all three were beyond disappointing, even after recommendation from our waiter. Besides whiskey and friendly service, there’s really no other reason to come to Boundary Stone.

I stopped by on a Friday night shortly after they remodeled and added additional seating. It was around 8ish and the bar was fully packed, but since we were going to grab a bite to eat anyways, we were happy to sit at a table. Word to the wise-if you are seated at the table we got, ask to move. We were in a back corner next to a door that was missing glass panes. Every time someone opened the main door, we(or I should say my boyfriend since he seemed to block me from getting the cold air) were blasted with cold air. I’m not sure if this was for the«hipster effect» or if they were just too lazy to replace the glass panes. Either way, my boyfriend had a less than pleasurable experience each time someone walked in. Other than that, we were relatively satisfied with our meals and drinks. I ordered the pork roll burger. I totally misread the menu description and thought I had ordered a pulled pork sandwich(yes, this was after a few IPAs). I was confused when they asked me how I wanted it cooked(medium), but that should have been my hint that I had ordered a burger. Oh well-c’est la vie. So this burger was ground brisket and chuck, pork roll, smoked mozzarella, pickles, and mustard. It came with fries as well. The burger was cooked well to my requested temp. Nothing really stood out about the burger though. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t particularly memorable either. The fries were a little too limp for my tastes. If I could reorder, I would have probably ordered the honey hot chicken sandwich, fried chicken with honey hot sauce and blue cheese. My boyfriend ordered the half smoke with chili and cheddar. He seemed to enjoy it, although I didn’t try any myself. I had a few Port City Belgian Blondes which were great! That’s my new favorite Port City brew! My boyfriend had a wine, and as someone else noted, it’s not served in a wine glass put a mini pint glass. Now service: it was really great and MUCH better than Right Proper down the street. She was engaging, funny, and attentive when we needed something but not intrusive. Their menu is generally very small so I’m not sure if I would return here on a regular basis, but I’m definitely all for returning for a few beers in the near future!

Great neighborhood hang out. The outdoor seating is the best place for groups. They rarely turn the sound on for any sporting events that are on the tv inside though, so if you want to catch a game you may want to go elsewhere. If you don’t mind watching without the sound though this is a great spot! The new menu is more simple than the last, but they kept all of the favorites and added some new foods that fit their style better. My favorites are the seitan«wings» and maple brussel sprouts.

Went here for dinner last night. They apologized for a limited menu due to renovations to the kitchen — only a few sandwiches were available and no sides except chips. We ordered beers, a burger, and a cheesesteak. Neither were good. The bread on both was not good. It was particular bad on the cheesesteak(my dish). It was pretty much stale to the point of falling apart before it reached my table, and this has nothing to do with having a partial kitchen. Food: 2(menu was limited due to kitchen renovated) Ambience/Interior: 4(Interior is interesting and well done) Drinks: 5(Selection of local beer was good, though it was unclear what was on tap and what was not from the main menu.)

Housemade spicy BBQ sauce on everything here. Got it with the pork nuggets, ended up putting it on everything. My god it is so good. Bacon jam burger was cooked to my liking(medium), and while overall good, did not pick up any of the bacon jam flavor. Bun was noticeably bigger than the burger — not my favorite– and left a little to be desired. Standard fries, nothing to write home about. Décor is wooden meets old school industrial. Smaller place but very cool vibe. Not ideal for big groups but great for a date.

My boyfriend and I came in on a Saturday before we became tourists at the National Mall. I was pretty amazed at the entrance and the inside was a woodsman dream. We sat at the bar and decided to go with bottomless mimosas which were good, but I’m not much of a pulp person and there was quite a bit of it. For lunch, I decided on their honey hot wings. Being from the south I’m a huge fan of three things on a menu; collard greens, wings, and chicken and waffles. I must try them anywhere I go. Their honey hot wings had a great flavor. I was pleased that there was actually a mixture of both honey and hotsauce. I will definitely be back!

(3.5 stars) Boundary Stone is the kind of place you’d go to catch up with friends and just chill. A decent choice for those low-key nights. Pros — Chill ambience: low lights, dark wood, tucked-away booths Cons — Wine comes in a half-pint-ish glass, not in a wine glass. I didn’t like it. Check out my picture. — This place is only fun and not awkward when you have a table and a chair to sit in. I’ve come here twice, and both times all the tables were full. — Nothing is very special about this place. This place is good, not great. What I got Two red wines, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Fried pickles. What I thought Both wines were alright, but it was weird to drink them in a glass meant for beer. My friend ordered the fried pickles. Ew. It comes with four small pickle spears. It was pretty greasy and unappetizing, but keep in mind that I’m not a fan of fried pickles in general.

Cool spot in an up and coming neighborhood. Boundary Stone provides a low-key spot to grab a drink, watch the game, or try the wide offerings of whiskey. The staff was very friendly, prices were reasonable, and it was just the right type of crowded(not too quiet where it was crickets, but not loud enough where you could not talk, move around, or grab a drink). Although I did not try any of their food, everything on the menu sounded delicious and I look forward to comng back for a meal.

Boundary Stone is not even in my(slightly soulless downtown) neighborhood but I still come out here pretty often to get that great neighborhood vibe. They have great drinks and a great beer selection that my boyfriend enjoys. The atmosphere is perfect for a low-key date night. It’s Boundary Stone’s Half-Smoke that keeps me coming back. Like any red-blooded American sometimes I get a bad craving for meat and when it happens the Half-Smoke is the only remedy. The small batch sausage is really unique and the chili doesn’t have any/many beans which I really enjoy. I also highly recommend the brussels sprouts and the bacon jam burger.
