I don’t know where to start… I’ve never reviewed on Unilocal prior to this experience but I couldn’t resist… I needed a pedicure close to my house that would be quick with parking. I didn’t read prior to coming but nothing could have prepared me for this. Please see picture I can say no more.

Since the last post was a few years ago, I thought I would check out if this place had gotten better. After ten minutes of standing in the front with no one greeting me, I checked to see if they at least had OPI. They don’t. Needless to say, I left.

I went to get a French full set and also to get a French pedicure for my trip to the Caribbean. It was a Monday afternoon, so I got taken care of right away. There were only two other ladies there. I randomly chose Ann’s actually because I was desperate to get my nails done as my usual place was closed(Lady’s Nails) who annoy me a bit because they have random hours. Anyway, I was stopping by the 7 – 11 in the strip mall that Ann’s is in and saw it as I was walking to my car. I asked the lady as I walked in the price and basically, it was the same as Lady’s and my total came to just $ 54 for both. The store is clean and I was really happy that they had the actual French white tips for my nails. The lady was friendly and she did an excellent job on my toes. I had not had a pedicure in a very very long time and she was so precise with the painting the French manicure. They still looked great, even after prancing all up and down in the beach in saltwater, weeks later, they look great. My finger nails held up much better than I expected too! I was really happy with it. I will be back to Ann’s nails to get them done again and probably ditch my usual spot as it seems that Ann’s is quite a bit more reliable and the work they do is good. The price is right also.

The H Street Corridor is still, by all accounts, «up-and-coming,» so I’m hoping that at some point in the near future, a benevolent investor decides to take pity on the neighborhood and open up a dazzling, high-end salon to take care of all my nail care and waxing needs. That day is not today, however — nor was it the day I went to Ann’s Nails, which is located in a strip mall that runs along H Street from 8th to 10th. I dropped in on a weekday afternoon to get a simple pedicure. I was the only client in the place, and so they took me back to the pedicure chairs right away. That was the only thing that happened fast during my visit. The nail technician who would do my pedicure filled up the foot tub and then walked away for 20 minutes to have a conversation with the other nail technicians. And that would have been OK if they hadn’t been blaring the TV so loud on a channel I didn’t care to watch(it was a Vietnamese soap opera) with NOMAGAZINESINSIGHT. I don’t even care if it’s a People Magazine detailing the toxicology report of Michael Jackson’s death(which, at the time of this review, would be nearly three years old), I just want something mindless to read! Then some little neighborhood moppet who apparently knows the nail technicians came in the salon and ran around furiously, tripping over the pedicure chairs and causing a ruckus. And THEN some old man came in with a trash bag full of groceries, from which he pulled out a WHOLERAWCHICKEN, and all the nail technicians dropped what they were doing to have a heated argument about the raw chicken. More than the raw chicken, the whole place just struck me as unkempt and unsanitary, and their pedicure prices didn’t reflect the severe lack of quality.(I paid $ 24. For $ 30, I could have gotten a pedicure in a sterile environment with no moppets or raw chickens.) Bottom line, skip Ann’s nails and wait for that benevolent investor, just like I’m doing from now on.

I so wanted to believe I could walk a few blocks and get a good manicure/pedicure! After a bad experience with Capitol Nails on Mass. Ave., I thought I might as well give my own neighborhood a shot. Mistake… this was by far the worst nail experience for me. Did the normal review, «How do you sterilize your instruments». I was immediately given the regulation speech as I was swiftly led past the small, unplugged sterilizer. Ok… deep breath… I need a full set of gel nails, french manicure and pedicure today by 3:00… no turning around now. I’ll make this short. * No OPI colors * No base coat on the toe nails, one coat of color and a quick top coat and no cleaning of the edges. polish everywhere and nails not shaped. * Acrylic too thick on finger nails * Don’t use white acrylic tip color — hand painted without guide the white tips the old fashioned way and it was STRAIGHT across with no natural curve * edges on the sides were not blended to prevent lifting * Didn’t clean up cuticles * The gel was super thin so I’m not sure if it will last * Nails uneven, shaped inconsistently… Just Horrible… and these are just the things I have energy to write at this moment!
