94.7 – The Globe

At first, I got a bit tired of annoying Kane on Hot 99.5, along with their repetitive songs. I heard from some friends that this channel was good, and I expected it to be with the same music as 99.5, but with less repitition. However, it was nothing but slow rock and a wannabe station. There is nothing Fresh about Fresh 94.7. They only play the Fray and Coldplay, with a little sprinkling of Lady Gaga here and there.

Worst format change ever. The best station in DC (formerly playing an amazing mix of classic rock) is now one of the worst (playing a trite and horrifying mix of the «freshest» music on air). Freakin’ lame.

Pretty good music selection. I like to listen to this station while at work, but the reception isn’t that great with my radio, so I am forced to switch to another station sometimes. They do have a good variety but the play list seems to be the same for each day, just in a different order. One of the better stations in DC!

Yeah, I still pine for the good old days of WHFS … and admittedly, most days I just plug my ipod into my car for tunes cause honestly, I can only take SO MUCH of Fergie, The Fray and Nelly Furtado.
So when my friend mentioned that a new radio station was online that played «world classic rock» it piqued my interest. Now, my musical tastes run the gamut — I’m happy listening to Zeppelin as I am to The The and Akon, but anything to get me away from the same Top 20 repeats on the dial was worth a shot.
I turn the dial to 94.7 FM – surprise, it’s Weeeeeeeeassssssselll, back on the radio (old HFS listeners will know who I’m talking about!). Nice. So the music … surprisingly good mix. I don’t know if I classify Elvis Costello, U2, and John Mayer as «classic rock» but whatever. Of course, they do throw in the Dead, Zeppelin, etc. too.
Tune in and I’m sure you’ll be listening to familiar music … yeah, I know you’re a closet Blondie fan. They also stream live on their website.
Oh yeah, the station is also «green» — as in they operate using renewable energy to power its 50,000 watt signal to battle global warming, and they advocate an eco-​friendly lifestyle. Hence their name … clever eh?
