I stopped by here when I bar hopped with my friends. We were able to get seats and had a relaxing conversation over drinks and loud music. The word that came to my mind was hipster. It’s a very modern and commercialized hipster vibe. I’m not talking about a true hipster way of life where everything is energy efficient and from the farm. I am talking about the more trendy and Pinterest«hipster»… Please note the quotes around hipster. The lights are dim yet flashy and the people are very laid back. The drinks range from $ 10 to $ 15. I would suggest that you get seats at the tables that is if you can snag one. Just let one of the employees know. The wait is not long at all. I waited about 20 minutes. So grab a seat and grab a drink and storm up a conversation with your friends.

Nice spot to swing by for drinks when you’re on 14th. Small space makes things feel very intimate, especially when you can get some seats by the wall. I always end up having their punch du jour which never disappoints. The rest of the drink menu rotates with original cocktails. Bartenders are always very knowledgeable of the menu and make great recommendations. Only down side… it can get VERY crowded late night on weekends. Visit the bathroom for a visual pick me up :)

Best cocktails in DC. So impressed. Menu changes weekly. I hope they bring one to LA!

Love the intimate speakeasy feel. Great small dishes and phenomenal mixed drinks. If you haven’t been here yet, you are missing out. Hopefully it still remains an dark intimate spot. ;-)

This was our 2nd stop for our group’s Thursday night pub crawl. One member of our group led us here, so we didn’t have to search, but it’s located under Doi moi. Stepped downstairs and was pleasantly surprised by the bright white look of the place(I’m not a fan of dark basements). We grabbed 4 seats at the bar. I had the Punch du jour($ 10). It tasted good, causing us to stay WAY longer than expected and next thing our group knew, we were starving. We asked for food and all they had were spicy cashews and bowls of charred meat with a spicy chili sauce. Seriously. BUT, we were so hungry we had 2 orders of the meat. Bartender was great about keeping our drinks full. Also, bathrooms were«clean;“not talking about the wallpaper imagery ;) Just make sure you eat before heading to this spot.

Yet another place on 14 with $ 14 cocktails. If I didn’t live upstairs, I would never come here… But sometimes it rains and I’m lazy :)

Friday after work I headed down 14th St first I made a stop by Bar Pilar(review coming soon), with a recommendation from Andy I bounced from his bar to an underground bar he really liked 2B1S and tried the drink ‘Monster in a Parasol’. So after walking passed it a few times, stumbling around and asking for directions I saw the stairway then proceeded in. Without much of an intro I asked for the ‘Monster in a Parasol’ it wasn’t on the menu that week but they accommodated me and whipped it up for me. The bartender was kind, knowledgable and she paid close attention to every drop of liquor she poured into any and every libation. Moments later she places the ‘Monster in a Parasol’ in front of me– it was a cocktail consisting of Berbere infused grappa, honey, lemon and something else *shoulder shrug*. You could smell the spices and lemons zest dancing towards your senses like a curvaceous siren. I took a sip. It tasted like a journey through Ethiopia– if you’ve had tibs than the Berbere reminded you of it distinctive spicy punchy flavor and the honey ever so subtlety put Tej in the background of your palette. It was an Ethiopian meal in a drink, it was perplexing to the palette– this is the first drink I’ve ever had that was a true experience. Grab you a date and explore their drink menu together, take an über home and continue the evening– have an experience. The price point is kind of steep for a cocktail and their bites, but I couldn’t have had a better drink.

I like this place. It’s tucked away almost like it’s a speakeasy and has very modern décor and quite spacious. Great drinks and a good place to take a date.

Nice bar with trendy cocktails. No food. Can get loud. Hard to find, a small stairs will take you underground.

Lots of disappointed reviewers. I think it depends on what your expectations were and why you go to bars. Being that I had no expectations, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the bouncer was a slender woman sitting on a chair reading a book and that it wasn’t a hot and humid dank underground bar. Drink menu is limited. I love the intimate space. Sad I did not get to check out the bathroom wallpaper.

Remember in college when you mistakenly went to a frat party and ended up in a cement basement where people were playing beer pong? Well, take that cement basement, spray the whole thing white, and exchange the beer pong table for too many people, and you have this so-called speakeasy. 1. Acoustics. No one could hear themselves think here. With no acoustic absorption, all sound just echoes and hits you in the face. Then, add horrible club music to it. 2. A speakeasy is a club you’re not supposed to know is there. It was so loud, the whole block was aware. 3. What kind of a speakeasy plays club music? Apparently, the DC speakeasy. Jazz, people. Jazz. This place was a wash.

This place is kind of sexy. Hard to find, looks like someone’s basement house because its underground a bit. It’s all in white and is a loungy area. It’s a nice place to go for drinks with a small group or on a date.

2 Birds 1 Stone is under Doi Moi on 14th Street. The bar itself has a secluded, calm feel to it. Service is quick and friendly, and the ever-changing menu is hand drawn to fit the new cocktails. I ordered the ginger, ginger, ginger, and it certainly did not disappoint on the ginger. Overall I’d say this is a solid, if expensive, choice for cocktails.

Lot of people tripping and shattering glasses here. Also a lot of weird wacko hipster torn jean wearing nobody’s walking around in here. I was best looking one cause my hair is like that of an Adonis. IG: thehairofzeus

I got a real hipster speakeasy vibe from this place. I could feel my jeans get skinnier when I walked through the door. When I walked downstairs, I thought I’d have to whisper«unicycle» or some other cryptic password to the guy checking IDs before he let us in. Not a bad spot tucked away in a basement just off 14th street. Quick and friendly service, but for a cocktail bar the drinks were a little underwhelming. Not bad, but just not as good as I would have hoped. You can definitely do better for delicious, inventive craft cocktails in DC. But you can also do a heck of a lot worse.

I’ve been here twice now on off nights — just going over for a drink in the neighborhood — and have had great experiences both times. It wasn’t too busy, the drinks were deliciously strong, and the ambiance was relaxed but hip. I favor whisky cocktails, and have been on a scotch kick lately. Their Mamie Taylor was very good, with just the right smoky scotch aftertaste. The rum punch was also particularly good. The only downside was that service was slow on both occasions, and the bar wasn’t even that crowded. I wouldn’t want to go back at a busier time on a weekend night, but for an off night it is a great spot to grab a solidly crafted drink at a cool new bar.

While 2 Birds 1 Stone may be hidden speakeasy style on the corner of 14th and S down some stairs, it was considerably packed. We came around 10 pm on a Saturday and the bar was over-crowded. It took 38 minutes from the time we arrived for one of us to get a drink as the bartenders were preoccupied and not making eye contact. The cocktails were pricey and although they had creative and eclecticingredients in them, they just were not that good. The bar is downstairs in a basement with no windows and despite it being 50 degrees outside, it felt like a sauna inside. If you plan to check this place out, I recommend coming in before the evening rush to try just one of their cocktails rather than making an evening of it.

2 Birds 1 Stone is another bar I really wanted to like, but was underwhelmed by. A group of friends and I came by around 9 or 10 on a Saturday night, so it was pretty busy — standing room only. I had read about all the great cocktails, but the drink menu was pretty short — less than 10 drinks. They all had gin or whiskey, and there was only one drink with vodka or rum(the two liquors I like). I wound up with a mostly rum tasting super tiny $ 10 daquari. My friends were meh on their tiny overpriced beers. The room is cute, and the sex wallpaper in the bathroom is interesting, but the bar is overpriced. The drinks were very small, and really nothing special. Maybe I came on a bad night?

Went here for late night drinks and some small bites. Was oddly hard to find — speakeasy style– but after I was warm inside I found that endearing. And the inside continues that theme too — with cozy little nooks and crannies shelving booths — very unique and I could see it getting very romantic. I had the«hot punch,» which was cider with some alcohol… It was pretty tasty and warmed me right up. Later on, I tried the Farmhouse Pale Ale which was also very good, but with those tiny glasses, I’m not sure worth the money. With a name like«2 birds, 1 stone», I expected it to fill both my thirst and my hunger. The menu, however, was EXTREMELY limited with only maybe 5 options total. We ordered the coconut crusted chicken– which ended up being fried chicken wings. I loved the crispy outer shell(despite not being a coconut fan), but the chicken itself tasted a little fatty once you got through that. We also got the shrimp and pork spring rolls, which were more like taquitos than spring rolls in my opinion. In other words, they were long, thin tubes — but pretty tasty all and all. The flavor of the filling was hearty and delicious! Both dishes were appetizer size– probably would have preferred a bigger menu with traditional bar fare for a meal instead. I’m glad I tried this bar out, but overall found it a little pricey. Luckily I had great company! Definitely stop by if you’re looking for that intimate, one-of-a-kind joint and you don’t mind paying extra for it.

Six of us met for drinks here on a Wednesday and fortunately there was plenty of seating when we arrived, which was around 6pm. It’s a great space and it’s definitely the brightest speakeasy I’ve ever been to. The décor and art work are pretty unique as well. The cocktail menu featured several specialty drinks, including a punch du jour. I chose the El Diablo and it was incredibly delicious! They used just the right amount of fresh ginger and cassis. Apparently, they have a juicer and that’s how they were able to add such an abundance of ginger, but still it wasn’t overwhelming as ginger can sometimes be. I definitely could have downed at least two of those amazing drinks, but stopped after one because for one we had another place to go to and secondly, like any other speakeasy, the drinks aren’t cheap. Can’t wait to go back!
