T. F. Green International Airport – PVD

This airport has always been a work in progress. It has a lot of potential and this airport will always be a symbol to me of going home, since I’m from this area. That being said…
The good: Very fast security lines. Many bathrooms. Seating all over. Lots of food choices (FYI if you want fast Dunkin Donuts and friendly service, go to the one on the right terminal — not the Terminal with all the Southwest flights). Also, fun shops inside so you can grab souvenirs or clothing, whether you are coming or going.
The bad/​needs improving: The wifi is terrible. The MBTA needs to make more trains available early in the morning that will get to TF Green. The Southwest staff here needs to be re-​evaluated and or just overall replaced. They ABANDONED a family member, and six other passengers, who had to be rescheduled due to a maintenance issue (AKA in their control) and I’m currently involved in a battle with corporate over their poor handling of the situation. Disgraceful.

This small airport, located in Warwick, RI, not Providence as the PVD suggests, has actually grown quite a bit over the years. Don’t let that fool you though, this is a very small airport.
Departures are upstairs and they have a parking garage on site for both long and short term. If you miss your terminal drop off or are not sure of the parking garage entrance, no worries, it’s a short circle to get back, just keep to the left. There are no sky cabs here, but as this airport is so small, if you get dropped off at the curb, the check in desk is right inside the doors.
Arrivals are down stairs with luggage carousels on either side and an escalator in the center. A coffee shop is located between the entrance and the escalator. This is a convenient place to grab a snack in case you get off the plane hungry, or you arrive way too early for a pick up.
When picking up, the ‘cell phone lot’ is located on Post Road, not on site. To park on site, when dropping off or picking up, payment in the short term lot is required or you can drop off at the curb.
The car rental desks were recently relocated to the end of the ‘Interlink’ walkway. Not as convenient but easily accessible. You can also pick up a train or bus by taking the elevator to the ground level at the end of the interlink walkway. Also of note; ‘park & ride’ companies are now required to drop clients off at the end of the interlink, near the car rental desks. Take the elevator to the 3^rd floor. The interlink corridor does have ‘people movers’ so you don’t have to ‘walk’ all the way. Sometimes there is an electric cart available (with airport driver) to give you a ride to or from the terminal.
If you have a very early morning flight, Dunkin Donuts will not yet be open (from experience!) so be sure to grab your ‘joe’ on the way in, or be prepared for the early morning line! (also from experience) There is a Johnny Rockets available as well as some food kiosks and bars although I always seem to leave too early in the day to visit any of these. Like most airports, there are a variety of shops to poke around, buy a book, candy or last minute gift.
The seating areas are pretty standard; not terribly comfy, but not horrible either. There is free Wi-​Fi available and plenty of waste baskets for your empty coffee cup or sandwich wrapper. The airport is always clean, including the rest rooms, the TSA agents are friendly and I find they use the X-​ray machine lines exclusively when they are not too busy (like early morning). Sign up for the TSA pre-​check (
) and go through the quick line. No shoe removal required.

My 1:15 flight is not leaving until 2.30 giving me 10 minutes to make my next flight. They said that if I miss my next flight at 4:15 I would be on the 6:55 flight. WTF.

Quick and easy. Efficient, clean, convenient. I’d love to fly out of/​into T.F. Green more but I find myself constantly trekking up to Boston because the flights from Logan are just so much cheaper (for example, $ 200 vs $ 350) — if the price difference was less significant (~$ 50 perhaps?) I would absolutely choose T.F. Green. A short drive away from Providence or accessible by RIPTA.

Providence continues its rise in stature among the small cities of the US, and it puts a good foot forward as you emerge from above the tarmac and first point your roller-​luggage-​toting self toward discovering the city and state.
Southwest deserves credit for putting this airport on the map for speed, convenience, and access to much of the continental US, but TF Green has taken the baton further in attracting more airlines, adding more routes, and even finagling an international leg (Guten Tag, Frankfurt!).
Security is well organized and relatively expeditious; TSA’s PreCheck works like a charm here, and even a relatively intimidating-​looking snake queue of non-​PreCheck fans out pretty effectively among several lines to get you on to your gate.
There aren’t any particularly noteworthy eateries or watering holes here, nor are there any strong local flavors in terms of local history write-​ups, appreciable statues, or fun opportunities to take a picture with a cardboard cut-​out of Buddy Cianci, for instance. However, despite that seemingly vanilla personality, all you need is here, and what’s on offer is sufficient. Plenty of places to eat or drink, places on each end to grab a token Rhode Island t-​shirt, and ATMs from the major banks help you accomplish what you came for, as do a few places for candy by the pound or massages by the fifteen minutes.
From out of town? Heads up — refuel your rental car on Airport Road (not a tough task to accomplish) rather than looking for anything technically on-​property. If this is your home airport, you might want to look into some of the rental car agencies’ deals — some will let you park on their property for cheaper than the airport garages, give you a shuttle lift, and will have your car warmed up and running for you if you phone ahead as you de-​plane.
It’s a rock-​solid smaller airport; I put Tampa first on the list by a considerable margin, but TF Green is a legitimately good airport, and its investments in improvements are paying ever-​greater dividends. I think the average traveler would agree.

It’s a small airport; which I love. Easy to maneuver and you can quickly get wherever you need to go. The staff is also very nice and eager to help. Because of its size, there aren’t many restaurant options but what it does have, is great. And fret not, it DOES have a Dunkin’ Doughnuts. Knowing this area, there is probably a DD on the plane, too. :)

I have used this airport a dozen times or so over the past 20 years. I used it more in the late 90s than recently. But I was positively impressed when I recently used PVD to get to a conference in Providence. I was reminded of the advantages offered by this right-​sized facility.
I have always been happy to use T.F. Green as an alternative to Logan when I needed to travel to the southern Boston suburbs, Rhode Island or eastern Connecticut. The airport has clearly undergone updates over the years and sports a relatively attractive facility.
The two things I have always liked about this airport are the navigable size and the easy accessibility. It is a smallish facility servicing 3.5 million passengers per year (versus Logan, for example, which processes 31 million passengers per annum). There are eight airlines with more than 10 destinations. As an originating or terminating airport, it is easily accessible yet still reasonably proximate to central Providence (10 miles to the State Capitol). It is easy to get to and away from the facility. The lobby and check in areas are quite nice, having a spacious feel with a vaulted ceiling and floor-​to-​ceiling glass windows. The security is efficient with a pre-​check lane for those eligible. Post-​security, there are 22 gates making the facility imminently negotiable. There are two concourses (North and South) and it does not take long to get anywhere within the terminal area. For the size of the airport, however, the selection of retail and food choices are reasonably good. The gate areas are comfortable and the overall ambiance of the airport creates an low-​stress experience.
As an arrival facility, the small baggage claim area is easy to use. There are ATM machines near the front entry. The rental car facility is reached through a long, enclosed, elevated walkway that leads to the parking garage that houses the cars. The walk is about three or four minutes. The central area with the rental car counters is convenient and efficient. For those who do not want to drive, there is a downtown shuttle that drops at many sites. It is reasonable in price (our ride was $ 15 per person with tip) though the operating schedule is limited.
Overall, this airport provides a great alternative to Logan or even the New York airports. It is much more user-​friendly than those larger airports with onward transportation facilities. The terminal is easy to navigate and the retail and food options are reasonably good. The airline-​related services and the security operations are all relatively efficient. Because there are a couple of international routes, there are also Customs services on-​site. As you arrange your transportation schedule, it is worth considering whether this airport is a good alternative for your plans.

Quick and easy airport to get in and out of. Security lines are not packed and they have TSA Pre-​Check. There’s a Starbucks right when you get past security so it’s convenient to grab a coffee before heading to your designated gate.

Airports are just a necessary evil if you want to get your travel on, right?
Lines, crowds, assholes working for TSA, bad airport food, etc. Ya gotta deal with it at times.
I’ve frequented airports that are just disasters; Logan, La Guardia, etc.
TF Green however truly is a breath of fresh air. It’s never really packed, you have a fair amount of flights to choose from — with even a handful of international flights now? I’m just all about organization and efficiency and TF Green, as Triple HHH mentioned, is a well oiled machine. Just recently I was able to check into my flight, fly through security and get a comfy seat at my gate in 15 minutes right around the morning rush. Some great food options. The staff here is remarkably friendly. You almost feel like your in the twilight zone for airports, but in a good way!
What’s even more bonkers is that fellow Rhode Islanders still schlep over to Logan for flights! I get it, Logan is on a different scale — but for most of your domestic flying, read all these review folks and catch your flight from TF Green!

Maybe I’m spoiled but I love the convenience of traveling in and out of this airport. It is only 5 miles from my house so I can literally call my husband as we land and he will be there to pick me up. The dining choices are somewhat limited but this is my home airport so as long as I can get a coffee on the way out I’m happy. It’s very clean, parking is easy and it seems like the employees must be happy because I’ve been traveling through TF Green for years and after see the same staff. I am looking forward to many more years of traveling through here. The one complaint I have heard is that the rental car area is pretty far away, but since this is my home airport I don’t have to worry about that.

Nice small airport — took quite awhile to get checked in and thru security though, somehow or other. Forget about buying any affordable food if you’re there, it is insanely expensive. A sandwich and drink at Wolfgang Puck is upwards of $ 20. $ 25 baggage fee. Expect to walk out to your plane, if you’re taking a departing flight on a small aircraft. Not good if you’re disabled or injured.

Being in a long distance relationship for two years means I’m a pro at awkward public crying, especially in air ports… the staff at pvd airport always make the process easier — they’re kind, overly accommodating, funny, and good patient people.
I recently tried to save money by flying into Boston and it’s not worth it, I will spend the extra money to fly into providence strictly for this airport.

Simple and a great option to look at in the Boston and Hartford area. I always use this as another check point when comparing prices in this area.
Easy to get in and out of and I have never seen it crowded. Security is a breeze and they have a pretty good selection of food options considering the size. On site daily parking is also ridiculously inexpensive for this area.
Bradley Airport (Hartford) could take a lesson or two from TF Green and actually improve their overall experience…

Nice airport, small which is always nice. They have pre check which was fast, and it’s clean. There seems to be quite a few restaurant options which is nice in a small airport.
They also seem to have quite a few flight options and carriers.
I can’t give it a 5 due to its weird to drive into and bad signage.

I L-​O-​V-​E T.F. Green Airport.
I’ve never loved an airport before, and it seems a little weird to do so now. But this place is seriously the best. There’s never chaos or lines, no hassle or rudeness. I am always impressed by how smoothly my transition from curbside to gateside goes, and I meant to write a review last Thanksgiving, when I was CERTAIN I would hit insane crowds and nope! Seamless as always. It’s clear how much every other airport fails in comparison. The only downside is it doesn’t offer flights everywhere in the world that I wish to go.

SMALL airports can come with BIG perks, especially good small airports. Getting to T.F. Green is simple and speedy. Getting around once you reach the airport is even easier. Parking is cheap, almost absurdly easy compared to Boston. And best of all, the whole notion of arriving two hours ahead of time simply does not apply. If you are stuck waiting at this airport, have no fear because there is a nice array of places to eat and shop for an airport of this size.

It is a very nice airport for a rather small town a lot of food choices.
Even has a Brooks Brothers men’s store which you generally only find in the larger airports. I have to assume it’s due to the rather affluent travelers that use this airport and live in this region they made that exception

Next to DFW airport this is my favorite airport.

The true reason I love this airport is they have a bar right where you pick up your luggage and where your family or friend can come get you. How much you drink here depends whether it is Family or friends picking you up.

One of the most efficient, clean and easy airports to go through. I was worried it would be hard to navigate, but it’s not at all. I was worried there wouldn’t be a lot of food options. While there aren’t a ton, there’s enough to keep your belly full. I thought maybe it would be hard to find a rental car. Nope. Easy.
You heard it here first. An airport that’s easy! Maybe it lends itself to being in a smaller town, but it was totally easy to go through, with all the amenities you need. What more can you ask for in an airport? Maybe no delays? Unlikely, but t least you have two Starbucks to keep you caffeinated!

Love pre check in! Easy through the lines. This airport may be all but it has two Starbucks ! Staff is friendly they try to get you right through without too much delay.
There’s a few tester ants and magazine stores. Like I said small airport but has the necessities you would expect. I travel with US AIR 90% of the time. The only complaint I have is the slow boarding. It takes forever to load the plane and I’m not sure why?
Other than that I’m good to hoooo!
