Dinner w the kids. Kids wanted to set at counter so we heard lots of gossip from waitresses. Grilled cheese all around. Hani with onion rings for me. Lemon chicken rice soup is the bomb!

We have always loved it here but today was awful. Our waitress barely came to our table, we waited for our food for a really long time and when we did get it, it was cold and soggy. Then we waited forever for the check. When we finally got it, then we waited and waited even longer for her to come back; almost 15 minutes later we ended up just leaving cash and walking out. She was still chatting with the other waitresses in the back when we walked out the door. I just can’t believe the awful service we got today, we will not be coming back.

Wow. This place was excellent. The staff was over the top as well. I sat up at the bar and had fast service and it was really personable. I had the grilled cheese coney, chili, and seasoned waffle fries loaded with chili and cheese. I will hate myself later, but right now, 2 minutes after finished eating it, I am satisfied. I picked the wrong week to start eating healthy. Now I can’t have any dinner. But I have a feeling I won’t want any.

Anyone who comes here and is expecting an immaculately clean and fine dining establishment is on crack… It’s a CONEYISLAND. Maybe you’re not from around here? My favorite guilty pleasure. Staff is super nice, service is quick, and it’s cheap!

Been here many times while doing business on this side of town — always excellent coneys, fast no-nonsense service… the whole Michigan Coney Island experience. Today however, I am here with 3 co-workers to attempt to validate an urban legend regarding a special version of a Coney Dog… the so-called«Loose». A «Loose» is a hot dog bun filled with loose ground beef and then topped with coney-style chili and chopped white onions… Of course, you should understand that you won’t find a «Loose» listed anywhere on National’s menu… this is strictly east-side slang supposedly only known to Coney Island servers east of Woodward Ave. in Metro Detroit. We’re talking about Warren, Sterling Heights, St. Clair Shores, Roseville, Eastpointe, even the Pointes — you know the drill. According to legend, in these parts, you can call out your order for«One Chili Dog and one Loose» without needing to provide any further explanation. Remember, this is strictly an «east-side» thing… don’t for a minute think that it would work in Ann Arbor, Novi, Canton or Redford. We’re here at the National Coney Island on Van Dyke between 12 and 13 to put the urban legend to the test. Well, it worked! Our server Patty didn’t miss a beat as I ordered«one Coney with everything and one Loose… One of each». After delivering our orders, I asked our server Patty how she wrote my order out. She said«one of each» and said it was a very common order here in Warren. Urban Legend confirmed! Then I got to enjoy my «loose» — a solid 4 stars.

Only went since I had a gift card from a poor experience at another location. Well, this one sucks as well. Dirty inside and outdated booths with tears in them. The tables are scuffed up and the waitress didn’t even come off as slightly happy. The food actually made us both sick so perhaps bad chicken or fry oil? Stay away. National has gone down hill quickly.

FILTHY place. Noticeably dirty floors, walls, tables, everything. We were seated at a table that had not been wiped and had a puddle of coffee on it. Stood around waiting forever for two booster seats and they finally came back with one. An aimlessly wandering buser and TWO servers ignored the puddle of coffee and I finally cleaned it up myself with paper napkins. I got a vibe like I would get attitude if I directly asked for it to be wiped up, which was confirmed when the same two servers stood in the middle of the dining room complaining to each other about the ladies at the table next to us(who DARED to ask for carry-out cups for their drinks!) complete with eye-rolling and obvious gestures toward their table. They were very nice to us to our faces, though. The ground meat on my coney specials was cold(which was a weird and extra gross contrast to the hot fresh dog under it), my onion rings were busted up and smelled like dirty fryer oil… I could go on but I think I’ve said enough. Skip this location. It doesn’t even seem like the same restaurant as the Royal Oak store.

My husband and I went here after the Kenny Chesney concert. Thank God if was open, because nothing else was… My husband LOVED his omelet and he is a tough judge. I enjoyed my coneys, but I thought the soup was just ok. I think it needed more chicken and less lemon. We had good service, but there was a super bitchy waitress that thought she was in charge. We heard her chastising our waitress for busing a table instead of seating someone, all while she didn’t seat the people either. I know many restaurants have that waitress, it was unprofessional to hear it. This place also has security which is strange.

Lemon rice soup and gyros were tastes! They even serve Oreo shakes! Service and atmosphere were very friendly. There are great breakfast options too !

The food tasted like just bought from Walmart and warmed up in the microwave, also lukewarm on top and frozen inside.

Its like many other Coney Islands, but food is pretty consistent here. Have noticed a change in National’s menu over the last year. They added a club sandwich and now serve waffle fries. That was my meal today and it was pretty tasty. Service was prompt. Also, the coke is pretty decent here and I consider myself a Coke expert. All in all it was a good choice for a work lunch since the food comes out fast and overall it was a good meal.

Not much to say in this review. If you’ve visited one National Coney Island, you’ve visited them all. I absolutely love the Hani sandwich. It’s a thing I’ve grown up with. I’ve always been a huge fan. Every time I order that sandy at this location, it’s always done right. Not much to complain about. I think the one thing that makes a chain restaurant differ from all of its other siblings in the same chain is the cleanliness of the environment as well as the staff. I have never been overwhelmed by the cleanliness of this location. Not to say that if you eat here, you’re getting a mouth full of the cook’s arm pit hairs in your soup or anything. Nothing like that. The place just seems a little rough around the edges. I also have never been overwhelmed(sorry to use the same word twice… sometimes I’m unoriginal) by the friendliness of the staff. I mostly hit this place up around lunch time, so they are incredibly busy. Still, a little smile once in a while wouldn’t hurt. This place is loud during lunch, so be prepared. All-in-all, not a bad place to grab a burger, fries, hani, etc. if you’re in a time crunch. The food is consistently good. The service is blazing fast as well. This place isn’t terrible, but it doesn’t stand out all the time as the place to go to fill my crabby, hungry belly. ~ pickle

I thought all National Coney Islands had the same menu. I guess I was mistaken. The one on Van Dyke in Warren you cannot get a coney combo with a baby greek salad without being charged an up charge. However, the National Coney Islands in St. Clair Shores allow you to add the baby greek salad to the combo price.

Every time we come to Michigan we make sure to visit National Coney Island. We try to visit more than once. All of the food is very good but I especially love the Greek salad. I live in Phoenix and they do not have Greek salads like this.

We used to go here a lot on the weekends for greasy breakfast. Today was the first time we had been there in a few months. New menus, new prices and apparently a new food distributor. The first two things I wanted were no longer on the menu. What we did order, tasted weird. Everyone in metro Detroit knows that National has their own distinct taste… and that’s why we go there. I left over half of my food on the plate. It was gross!

It’s National Coney Island so you know what you should get when you walk in: quickly made food that will fill you right up. My bread and butter meal is a Chicken Hani with chili cheese fries and a Coke.(Their fountain soda may be the best of anywhere — ever.) I’m salivating just thinking about the food right now. I’ve been going to National’s for over 20 years, since I was a little boy. My parents think their chili is to die for, and yeah it’s pretty damn good. Although, I miss the days of eating cheese fries and drinking Coke and smoking cigarettes … ahh … For a good meal that comes out quick at a reasonable price, this is the place. It’s a Michigan thing.

Ahhh National, the coney you go to because you can always count on it being exactly what it is supposed to be, A Coney. Ok, so this one has a bar in the back, but a coney just the same. Staff is always prompt, if a bit rushed some bleary-eyed nights when the bars let out, but don’t let it stop you from coming in and destroying a few dogs and fries. Breakfast here is fantastic. I’ve had many good and memorable visits here, and will definitely have many more.
