Mexicali Fresh Mex Grill

A lot of reviews here discuss how good their margaritas are — I am sure they are great, but I wish the food was as good. The home made tortilla chips, salsa and guacamole were good, but after that it left a lot to be desired.
My children are gluten free so we ordered ground beef tacos fro them — easy right? No. Our server came back and said they had gluten in them — plain ground beef tacos. The only answer here is they add filler to their meat. So they made them steak ones chopped small — small and overcooked and crunchy tough. My shrimp and bacon tacos were oily and bland, my other child’s enchiladas were not enchiladas but just the same dry steak in the others beef taco.
I am a hash critic but I also praise when I think it is good. I am sure they must have good things on the menu as there are plenty of good reviews or maybe every one smashes margaritas and by the time they eat, they don’t care.

Solid– tons of avocado for a small charge, street tacos not awesome. Less meat and made with an odd, sweet mango sauce rather than fresh fruit. Good cocktails.

I really like Mexicali. We first heard of them through eating at their Spencer MA location and were excited to hear that they opened up in nearby Ware. We’ve been semi-​regulars for over a year. I make it a point to order something different every time and have not been disappointed yet. Some standouts are the arroz con pollo, the Mexicali stir fry, fajitas, pollo tamales (con salsa verde), Puerco Adovado, and Camarones Mojo de Ajo.
The table side guacamole is a must order, and the margaritas are righteous.

Great restaurant, excellent food, consistently good. I have never gone there and been dissatisfied. The Margaritas are no doubt some of the best I have had, you can just go with the house margaritas, you can tell they Don’t use low end taquilia. Service is always Excellent. From the outside you would think it was a dive, when you go inside you can see it’s a class act. Thumbs up.

I go here whenever I can. It is in a location that may not value good Mexican food compared to others. The food here really is awesome. Rice is steam cooked, guacamole is fresh, meat is soooooo tender. I would eat here everyday is it was convenient logistically.

That’s 5 stars for me! Came in here about an hour before closing and were greeted with smiles when we walked in. We were sat right away and our server brought us waters quickly. We were also given fresh, warm chips and homemade salsa within 5 mins of sitting.
I opted for the steak and shrimp fajitas with a side of queso and the hubs got a shredded chicken quesadilla and chicken tortilla soup. The steak was absolutely AMAZING! Fresh flank steak, not over cooked, and had a great grilled taste to it. I also really enjoyed the rice and beans. After living in California, we’ve become serious Mexican food snobs and this place did not disappoint. The tortilla soup was overflowing with grilled chicken and avocado, definitely something I will be ordering next time. Two meals came to about $ 30. Service was prompt and very friendly– chips and waters were refilled without even having to ask. Excited to have finally found a place with decent Mexican food!

Went with my husband for lunch. Greeted and seated right away. Our server Courtney was outstanding. Knew the menu, gave us time, our food was delivered prompt and delish. She was an outstanding server

What a great find! I had the mole enchiladas and they were fantastic. The complimentary chips and salsa were really good too, with fresh tortilla chips (still hot!) and fresh tasting salsa with lots of cilantro, just how I like it. My server, Courtney, was pleasant, attentive, and served my lunch up very quickly. The house margarita was the cherry on top. I can’t wait to go back and try more menu items!

Great food. Fast service. Great drinks. I have gone here with my husband and ordered two combos and two drinks and still spent under $ 50.

After one of my coworkers told me they have had great meals here I decided to give it a try. The margarita and service was very good, but the food was pretty bland. I would however highly recommend the southwest quesadilla as those were tasty. I’m willing to give this place another chance but I am in no rush.

My experience at Mexicali was very mixed. On the one hand the service was great. Our waitress made us feel like VIPs. Our teenage daughter was very trying and our waitress handled it supurbly and kindly. We were responded to quickly and she really made us feel special.
The food however left a lot to be desired. The chips and salsa was pretty bad. The chips were ok but we received two salsas. The first was like sweet spaghetti sauce such as a more puréed Prego. The second salsa was overpowered by the taste of onion. I hate onions but most salsas I can tolerate it if I eat around the chunks, but I couldn’t do it here.
All of our entrees were very bland. While I don’t expect it to be really spicy, there was no kick. The most flavor I got from my entrée was from the Monterrey jack cheese. Having some condiments at the table to supplement the taste might have salvaged the meal. Interestingly enough it tasted better when we got it back to the house and reheated the leftovers. That’s when I could add some more flavorful sauces and chilies.
Overall if the head chef could really spice up the menu, this has the potential to be a real hidden gem out in the Ware area. The wait staff of the restaurant really are what makes this place shine.

Who would have thought great Mexican food in ware ma! Not this girl. My friends and I dined here last night. The fajitas were sizzling with flavor and fresh, with enough to feed a small army. Margaritas were equally delicious. Can’t wait to return.

Tasty, clean. Pleasant staff and we never had a bad meal here, but I also wished that I had one more fish taco on the plate on several occasions. Good choice for vegetarians.
Better than the Spencer restaurant, where we thought it to be rushed and the food not as good

Went a few times when they first opened, it was ‘okay’. On a recent visit I was impressed by the improvement. They got rid of the mushy, over-​cooked refried beans, and now serve only well-​cooked but firm black beans. The rice was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Chips and salsa were good also.
I had pork carnitas tacos and they were well cooked, very tasty. My margerita made with Hornitos was delicious as well.
Service was polite and friendly. Prices reasonable.
I look forward to visiting again.

Excellent service, delicious authentic Mexican food and nice atmosphere! This is my favorite restaurant in the area and the best Mexicali location by far!

Not a fan. Came here while on business. The salsa was good however the burrito i got was 80% rice 15% chicken 5% beans… not good

updating the update. i’ve been a few times with my sister and it’s the same. Prob. the 2 nd best place for a meal in the evening in Ware but in comparison to other towns near by that’s not saying much.
specific’s the Enchiladas are lame, the veggies although they seem good are frozen, thawed. Most of the food is average at best.
the best thing is the servers who work there are very friendly.

Mexicali has excellent food and a great atmosphere. Everyone was pleasent and inviting. Prices are more than normal for Mexican, although they are inline with other family style restaurants.
