My favorite sushi takeout. The staff is super sweet, the fish is really fresh and I’ve never had a bad experience. They make a lot of specialty rolls; I usually get sashimi so I can’t really comment on them other than to say they look pretty amazing. Spicy scallop is en pointe. Salmon avocado salad is amazing. Seaweed salad is usually great. My go-to.

update: picked up lunch from teriyaki express today for the first time in a long time, and i have to say i was really disappointed in what i wound up with — prices have gone up, as has rice content in the rolls, meanwhile the size of them and their overall taste/quality has gone down — sad, this used to be a great place but i don’t think i’ll be returning

Got take out from here last night and it was very good. Ordered several rolls and vegetable fried rice. Everything was fresh and delicious. It’s a cute little place too. Small, but very nice inside. Would definitely go there to eat.

Was in the mood for sushi but didn’t want to get dressed and sit in a restaurant. Hesitated to order from Teriyaki Express because the place looks like a hole in the wall from Sunrise Highway and you can’t take a chance with sushi! Surprisingly, the online reviews were so good that we placed an order. WOW! The food was excellent. The spicy girl roll was perfectly spicy and yummy as was my favorite avocado and tuna salad with spicy mayo! My husband doesn’t eat sushi so he tried the chicken and shrimp teriyaki. It was delicious and the portion was very generous. We phoned in the order and it was ready in 15 minutes. Take a chance on this deceivingly wonderful«hole in the wall»… You won’t be disappointed!

Small restaurant with BIG flavors! Just took my family out to try this little restaurant for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised! We’ve been to many Japanese places in the area and Teriyaki Express definitely holds it’s own! The place is small and has only 3 tables able to seat 4 at each. We were greeted by the owner, Simon, who went out of his way to make us all comfortable and welcome. Immediately, we noticed how neat and clean the restaurant was with the cool Japanese display on the wall. We started with miso soups, salad and warm edamame. Everyone enjoyed it all. The food portions were average size but the sushi was top quality! My kids had the teriyaki shrimp, which they shared. Both enjoyed it immensely! I ordered the spicy sushi combo that had 3 tasty rolls with what I later learned had Simon’s homemade family sauce in it. Simon and his brother-in-law sushi chef said that they prepare all the sauces themselves with no MSG. We liked the sushi so much, my son ordered an extra eel roll to top off the meal! This is a great little place to go any night you’re in town. If you’re looking for a great place to have traditional Japanese food in Wantagh before going bar hopping, stop in and see my new friend, Simon. Tell him you read the Unilocal review!

Looks can be and are deceiving when it comes to this place. For an express joint this place really hits the spot. The place is tiny so there really aren’t alot of seats. The two times I’ve been here I’ve gotten my meal to go. I had the chicken teriyaki with noodles. The chicken was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The portions was pretty big and they give you extra sauce in case you need it. This is my «go-to» place when the wife is working and I’m looking for a good meal.

This place looks like a cheap Chinese takeout from outside, but looks can be deceiving. I regret that I did not find this place earlier! Thanks to Unilocal,it’s gotten so much easier to detect hidden gems nowadays. We love their Miami Roll(Who would have thought of making rolls out of mango, apple, cucumber, and shrimp? It’s very unique and refreshing) and Teriyaki Combo. Owner says«Always gentlemen first!» and serves my boyfriend first, and it’s just hilarious. Parking can suck though.

The staff was so friendly! The sushi chef was very nice and showed me options that pertained to what I said I liked. The chicken teriyaki was awesome with the yakisoba noodle! Next time I come here I’m totally getting the playboy roll! Mmm! :-)

I really wanted a bento box and not many places I know of make them. So we went out here. Parkings would be hard if that area is busy. We parked behind the Sleepy’s. I got the Philly roll instead cause the only places I’ve been able to find it is in supermarkets and it’s not the best. Those who want fish but not raw should try it. It has smoked salmon instead. Friend got tempura something in a roll. For $ 5 bucks, I believe that was the price, for 6 pieces that’s not bad for mine. Friend said the taste was really good. Hope to go there again.

Simply the freshest ingredients and no MSG. The food tastes GREAT! We love it. We go back over and over. Simon will greet you as though you are his friend. His brother, Daniel, will make the best sushi you ever had. You can sit in a small, but nice area or do take out. They are clean, fast and efficient. I highly recommend it!!!

Teriyaki Express, Wantagh’s little sushi race car. Zooooom! The name puts you off, it makes you think of those mediocre little sushi stands in the mall that leave you with sushi buyer’s regret(aka a terrible night). Thankfully, you won’t regret your sushi experience here. This shoebox sized restaurant is one of the most immaculate takeout joints I’ve ever seen. Everything is clean and perfect and the walls practically sparkle. I can imagine teams of cleaning ninjas scrubbing the place down every night. As for the size, yeah it’s small — but it’s all about how you use the place! There is MAYBE about 8 – 10 seats… and like Jeff O said, no normal commodity like sushi bar seats. Oh well. It’s called express for a reason. I love to lunch t-express up. Their takeout bento boxes are absolutely adorable, affordable and efficient with a place for every little thing that comes with it.(see photo) I usually go for the teriyaki salmon. While the piece of salmon is a little thin, its always freshly cooked on top of a bed of warm rice. Miso soup is generic here. You could flip on a coin on the taste. Sometimes it’s watery and gross other times it’s crave-satisfyingly delicious. The«lunch» sushi is also great for a little joint like this. I’ve always been meaning to come back and try some of their specialty rolls. they have a fairly large selection that looks good. Real good. Mmmmm. The staff is extremely polite and courteous and is always welcoming you when you arrive. The accent-laden owner is funny,(I presume he is at least)… he pronounces«wantagh» like«WAN-tag» whenever someone calls. :P Protip: Parking is more dicey than a game of Yahtzee on sunrise highway. I’d suggest going around to the back if you don’t want to get squished like a pancake!

This is a small restaurant front with little place to sit, but the food is GREAT. The service is always prompt and personal. I’ve eaten in, taken out and had delivery and every experience has been incredible. My wife and friends who have gotten sushi say it is always fresh and well made(I cannot eat seafood so I can’t say for myself). The rice dishes are well portioned and taste great. The Beef dishes I’ve had are always perfectly cooked and seasoned. Any dish can be made spicy if asked for those who like the heat. Bottom line: Good Japanese food fast.

Great little Japanese restaurant. The food here is always good. Pricing is moderate and during the lunch special its great. The people here are very friendly and remember you. I go here all the time if I want affordable, tasty and generous helpings. Try their Chicken Fried Rice or the Crazy Roll!

Fun little starter Japanese-style restaurant. This is the first of its kind in Wantagh — A quick sushi takeout joint. Unfortunately, the location has been historically doomed, I hope this incarnation is a success. Nice prices. Very clean store. The glass case has a small selection, which makes me believe they care more about freshness than availability of that elusive maguro. All of the fish inside get quite a bit of elbow room in there. I like how they serve you on the little wood tables. I like the enthusiasm of the workers. I like the sushi chef’s jacket with Japanese words embroidered on the lapels. I like the miso soup and the crisp little rolls they prepare. One thing mysteriously missing: seats at the bar. There is no bar. There is a glass case but no seating. For me, this was a little disconcerting at first, but I managed to change my preconceived notions of a sushi bar. It’s not a traditional bar, it’s express sushi. Pretty good. It just might work. Will they be the ones to finally bring sushi to the white, suburban housewives of the area?
