Decided to take out dinner tonight. Ordered boneless spare ribs… They were ok, I have had better from them, steamed pork dumplings were good… Happy Family was just ok… Didn’t have much flavor. The noodles came with a free soup. Definitely not the best noodles by far. Don’t think I would return again.

Do not order any if the teriyaki dishes I ordered the shrimp teriyaki. The miso soup was watery as was the salad and the teriyaki sauce. I would not order any Japanese dish here again.

I just had dinner here. I’ve been here numerous times but never wrote a review. I got here early for the early bird special. It’s a pretty good special. — wine/soda — soup — appetizer — choice of entrée — dessert(fruit) For my appetizer I got the egg roll. As I’m eating my egg roll I notice there are really small pieces of shrimp in it with the pork. The menu doesn’t specify that there is SHRIMP in the PORK egg roll. I do not have a shrimp or shellfish allergy, but I know of plenty of people that do. So if you have a shrimp or shellfish allergy do NOT order an egg roll! My main entrée was delicious! I got szechuan chicken. Very nice flavor! However, the menu states«shredded chicken» I wanted it sliced and got charged an extra $ 1. My mother got the fried shrimp with ginger. It was also delicious. It comes with broccoli and pepper. My mom wanted it with snow peas only, and she got charged $ 2. If you change or alter their recipes, there will be an up-charge.

We have eaten here many times over the past 25 years. I find the food is decent, service is decent, décor needs work. The place could use a facelift and some new entrees on their menu. Prices are fair and portion sizes are fine. Years ago the management would walk round and check to see how everything is with their patrons. That does not happen anymore. The spicy cabbage appetizer is delicious. The cold sesame noodles are also really good. Tonight we ordered he orange beef and string beans. We did not love the orange beef. Sauce was too heavy and the peices of meat were too thick. The brown rice was great. The string beans were good. I wish I could be more positive but that’s it. I’m not sure if we will be back.

I went to Jani today to order take out food. I arrived at 3:58 pm. As I was going through the menu I decided to order the lunch special. I placed the order to the cashier who then advised me that it was too late to order the lunch special. I asked her what time did it end? She advised me that the lunch specials ended at 4:00 pm. I looked at my watch and saw it was only 4:02 pm. I mentioned that it was only 2 minutes past 4 and that I arrived before 4 pm! She said it’s a strict policy and would not honor the lunch special. I then walked out and will never return! This issue may seem very petty. However, it shows how this restaurant does not believe in courtesy and the proper way of customer service. Most of Their food has always been decent. I have taken friends and family members their often. NOTANYMORE!

Food is good, but they always forget something or mess it up. I was missing my entrée last time I ordered, and this time they gave me the wrong dish.(I asked for chicken and mixed vegetables with no sauce and they put sauce on it anyway). Oh well.

This place is just average. I kind of wish I could give it 2 and a half stars because 3 seems to generous, but 2 seems too low. The décor is really gaudy and the service is kind of rushed. Once you get your order, the staff doesn’t seem to be that attentive or check in on you. They were unfamiliar with the combo numbers on the menu and we had to reopen the menus and point to everything we wanted to order, which was just a bit annoying. Portions are good and prices are okay, but the food is merely average. The sushi doesn’t look or seem fresh, but there are always tons of take out orders going, so it can’t be that bad. For a weekend, the place was pretty dead, and that doesn’t seem like a good sign. It’s definitely not somewhere I would encourage you to go to, but it wasn’t a terrible experience. There is definitely better.

Gave this place a shot for lunch. Only tasty thing I had was the fried noodles they give each table. Miso soup was very bland, salad was impossible to eat and enjoy without making a mess, and the chicken teriyaki was extremely flavorless. I honestly felt like I was just eating broiled chicken PLAIN. Extremely disappointed. Can’t believe paid $ 30 to have no taste in any of the items I ordered. Will probably never ever come back here. Better off going to Jens Chinese food around the block, or Ichiban for some great Japanese.

This place is disguisting. When it first opened in the late 90s, it was a cool place but I think it’s all the original furniture and tea pots from the late 90s still. Food is pitiful also. Sushi is horrendous and Chinese selection is mediocre at best. Definitely need to update to attract new customers…

Average place. Used to come here when I was younger and i remember the food being much better. The service is mediocre and this place is nothing special. It’s not over priced so that is a plus. There are far better choices in the area though.

My family has been coming to Jani for Chinese food for years, and it never disappoints! Whether we order takeout or dine in, the presentation is always excellent and the taste is consistently good. Their won ton and egg drop won ton soups are delicious and their sesame chicken and their shrimp with walnuts dishes are my favorites. Their lunch specials are the best deal in the area for higher-end Chinese food, and it’s a classy yet casual place to bring a group for dinner as well.

Jani is one of my first stops when I set foot in Wantagh. Writing this review makes me miss my family(sister Tammy and brother in law) and all our memories! We have eaten a lot of Jani take out over the years with good memories attached! The dumplings, wontons, and all of the shrimp dishes are amazing. I am a bit of a traditionalist and get a lot of shrimp with vegetables and various sauces. The shrimp and veggies are fresh and all the dishes are delicious! No one can compete!

The food is always consistent and I am never disappointed. Tonight I tried the beef fried rice, and surprisingly the flank steak they use was very tender.

I usually only visit for lunch. Both their Chinese and Japanese dishes are pretty good… and their lunch specials are priced right. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. For a dollar or two more than what you would pay for take out, you can sit down and enjoy a nice meal. I’d call that a «win»!

Of all the locations this is my favorite! From the managers to the wait staff they are all friendly and curteous. They have a large selection of Chinese & Japanese cuisines. The best part of the menu is the lunch of the back. Great choices, nice portions, and cheap prices to boot! They come with soup, and rice. My favorites are the sautéed two delicacies, shrimp with broccoli, and roasted pork. Yum!

Not my place for sushi, but for it is my place when I’m craving local sit down Chinese food. I don’t come here too often because it’s essentially a pig out session when we do. First, let’s start with the restaurant. I’ve never eaten here and not sat at one of those giant booths along the south wall. I find it hilariously awesome that they sit people for two there. You could fit five people, easy. And it’s less of a booth and more of a couch that you are sitting on. It’s fantastic. People rightfully claim that it may need updating, but it works for me. Then how about the display of teapots and the occasional random thing that does not belong? Epic. The food is what it is. It’s what you would expect from a very good Chinese take-out place that happens to have sit down seating. I like the fact, and one of the reasons I keep coming back, is that it’s one of the few places around me that has pork buns and red bean buns. An order of one of those buns, cold noodles with sesame sauce, kani salad, a couple eggs rolls, steamed dumplings and only one entrée — it’s at the very bottom right of the Chinese specialties menu, some sort of chicken, shrimp and scallop dish that comes served with brown sauce, over a bed of fried noodles. Of course no meal here is complete without starting with a scorpion bowl, that naturally arrives on fire. Follow that up with a bottle of wine or two with our meal — and I’m in a happy place. Fatty place, but also a good place. I could sit here and go wild on the service, but it’s a Chinese restaurant. I don’t expect them to speak English, nor do I care that they don’t. The clientele here doesn’t order a number of glasses of wine, so we get it by the bottle to hedge against the fact they won’t be showing up too often after the food is on the table. I’m cool with that. What I expect is to be greeted with a hi from the host, and seated. He comes back later to open the wine, and the servers are polite — all of which have been. Throw in some oranges and fortune cookies with the check and I’m good. 4 stars because it is what I need it to be.

Love this place! My favorite Chinese and Japanese duo! Sushi is always fresh, and the beef with broccoli is the best I’ve ever had. A loyal customer from the start! Definitely recommend– moderately priced too. The place is huge so there’s never really a wait either, even on weekends.

Horrible. .over priced and rude. We placed an order for delivery that was not properly cooked. Called management to have it picked up and changed… he told us we were crazy. Finally, after arguing with them the manager personally delivered replacement food with attitude and told me «I don’t want your business any more»…after being a customer for many many years Today, more than a year later. I decided to place a phone order with Jani… the manager gets on the phone and says«according to our records, you were once unhappy with our food and we choose to not have you as a customer» Wtf!!! Now I want the entire neighborhood to know what kind of an establishment is in their town. We here in Wantagh, long island have many choices and many places to spend our money Jani will not be one of them

I’m a fan of Jani’s. My family likes this place a lot. We go especially for lunch considering they have GREAT prices on Chinese and Japanese food. It’s a dual fusion kind of restaurant and have many options for both. This restaurant is fairly big and the decorations are pretty neat. There are mirrors on the ceiling, big comfy leather booths and cute teapots lining the walls of the place. My usual lunch there is either the chicken with garlic sauce or chicken with walnuts. They have the best hot and sour soup… extra spicy. And the wonton isn’t bad either. They give you a big nice pot of hot tea and big crunchy noodles. In the Japanese area I’ve had their chicken teriyaki… but I usually stick to the Chinese food. You can get a good lunch there for around $ 6-$ 8 easily. Oh and can’t forget those fortune cookies. Here’s the funny thing: So whenever I go here with my mother or my grandmother they always seem to treat us differently. We laugh because we think it’s because we «traditionally» don’t have a man eating with us. And also because they always give us the broken noodles… like the leftovers no one wants. It could be our imagination but we sometimes feel they don’t talk to us as much or are as attentive because it’s just the girl’s day out. Ha!
