BYOALERT! We were able to bring some beers and I was able to have my favorite beer(Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale) with my favorite type of food. Went here with my wife and we had a blast. It was a slow Thursday night and they ended up giving us a whole hibachi table for ourselves, which was very nice. We ordered the chicken and it came with fried rice, vegetables, 2 shrimps, a soup, and a salad. The food tasted fresh and flavorful though nothing innovating. This is just your nice ol’ hibachi spot in the middle of the mountains… But it’s a good one at that. We also ordered some sushi and it was pretty good. I particularly enjoyed their shrimp tempura roll, I am known to be a fan of those, and when I find one made with love I have to toot its horn. Seriously though, this place should not be that slow on a Thursday night. Not complaining about getting my own table, though.

Positive: BYOB with a liquor store next door. Positive: Ample parking. Positive: Onion mushroom soup was good, however, could have been hotter considering there was no heat in the restaurant on a weekend! Negative: No heat in January! If you are not ex-military and not accustomed to inhaling your food you better eat real fast unless you like very cold food. Negative: Hibachi Rice, Hibachi Shrimp, Salmon and Lobster very little taste. Where’s the seasoning? Negative: Hibachi Steakhouses generally provide(3) three dips. One for the seafood, one specifically for lobster and they didn’t have the customary mustard for the Filet Mignon. Negative: No bean sprouts included with Hibachi Full Dinner as with other Hibachi Restaurants. Negative: The cost was right up there with the best of them. Overall: No comparison to Gasho of Japan in Central Valley, NY or Arirang Hibachi Steakhouse with locations in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. It even paled in comparison to the Fuji Japanese Steakhouse in the Galleria Mall at Crystal Run in Middletown, NY. Knife tossing and flaming onions are all well and good but you can’t eat them. We will not be returning.

This new restaurant is a true«gem» in this area where few restaurants of this type exist. We live in Bergen County, where a variety of ethnic restaurants can be found, but in Sussex County there are less. Yamato is definitely worth the trip. It sits neatly in the Wantage Plaza, where there is plenty of parking available. The interior is attractive and clean, with the typical Asian décor and ambiance. The staff is very polite and efficient. The varied menu at Yamato offers something for everyone. There is a wonderful steak & seafood Hibachi component, but we were there for Sushi and Chinese Selections. We were 3 people, and we each ordered something different. The sushi/sashimi was fresh and succulent. A wide variety of familiar and innovative rolls were described in detail on the menu. The Chinese dishes were also the traditional familiar fare, as well as new and creative selections. My son who is a «Good Health» advocate ordered several Asian dishes that were all appealing and new to me, so I had to try them and each was delicious and something I would order on another visit to Yamato. Prices there are average and reasonable. It is a BYOB restaurant which is a «plus» in our eyes. In summary, I could not find one disappointing feature to this new restaurant, and I highly recommend it for Steak Hibachi or Asian Sushi and Fusion cuisine. We loved it!

Celebrated son’s birthday with hibatchi dinner there last night. fantastic!!! Great service, delicious cuts of meat. love the ginger dressing for the salad, the onion soup always good AND its bring your own! cant go wrong with the dinners here. Prices are even good. spent $ 130 on dinner for 5 and left quite full and very satisfied. Chefs try to be entertaining but we go for the specific type of food and are always pleased with our choice. Cant wait to return again!

Hibachi in Sussex? Yes and very good. Ordered Fillet Mignon & Chicken combo and it was… GREAT! Couldn’t believe it till I saw it myself. A tray with huge shrimp scallops chicken and fillet ready to be hibachi’d. Do recommend.

We went here for Sunday dinner this week after a long weekend. The place is clean, and the staff is amazing! You can sit at the hibachi tables, or they have regular seating if you’re just ordering off the regular menu. With your Hibachi dinner you get soup, salad(with a great ginger dressing) rice, veggies, 2 shrimp, and then whatever combo you ordered. There were 5 of us, so I can comment on the Filet mignon, steak, scallops, chicken, shrimp, fried calamari, and general tso’s chicken… The steaks are tender, and cooked to order. You could really order either choice and still get prime meat. The scallops are thick and juicy and not rubbery. The shrimp are plump, and not those tiny shrimps that some places have. The chicken, in my opinion, is the largest of the meals, even though all the meals are more than generous, the chicken hibachi alone seems to have more meat. The fried calamari is good, but it’s rings, definitely not a deal breaker! The salad is fresh, crisp and cold, delicious! The soup is a onion broth with scallions and bread, another winner Fried rice is moist, and flavorful/ General Tso’s chicken is a HUGE portion served over bright green, super fresh broccoli, there was enough for dinner, and lunch the next day with still some to share! The cooks are funny, very interactive, and make the whole process enjoyable! If you’re in the area, def stop there!

Hidden gem of Sussex County! We’ve tried sushi, Chinese and hibachi here on 4 different occasions and were pleased every time! Hibachi show is fun and creative. Chinese fusion food was delicious(sesame chicken yum-yum!); and sushi presentation was superb! They also have a loyalty program: spend $ 200 — get $ 20 gift card. Nice!

This place is fantastic! The décor is very modern and relaxing. It is a BYOB, and having the liquor store next door is obviously convenient. The food is great — the portions of meat and fish(in both hibachi and sushi) is more than other places I have been to. The selection if sushi rolls continues for pages on the menu. I LOVE the peanut and avocado roll! This is exactly what Sussex County needs!

This place is, hands-down, the best Sushi, Hibachi and Chinese restaurant in Sussex county. Thai is great also but Cravin Thai is more specialized in that type of menu. Forget Asian Island, Wok n Sushi or even Wings which is pretty good itself. This is the place. BYOB but there’s a liquor store two doors down.

We’ve eaten at Yamato Hibachi twice in the past two months. The first time we dined at a regular table and selected from the menu provided. We had tierrachi salmon and tierrachi chicken. The only complaint was that they served a tiny portion of veggies that had a thick sauce. The sauce was overwhelming in quantity for the amount of vegetable. There was too much sauce on the entrée also. We decided that we would not be trying the regular fare again. Our next visit was for the Hibachi. The wait staff are so soft spoken that the din of the chefs at the other table(s) make it a struggle to hear what is being asked of you. Be ready to ask for a repeat. The chef put on a good show. The usual noise with the cooking utensils accompanied by the veggie toss into your mouth etc. were accompanied by a «don’t singe your eyebrows» flame display. This was a bit overboard if you have large eyebrows. A definate flash point. There were three of us sharing the show. We selected shrimp, chicken and fillet mignon. We all agreed that the portions were good. Actually, there was too much to eat of the rice and veggies. There were two things that didn’t meet with our normal expectations for a quality experience. The food was too salty. All three of us agreed with that evaluation. The other thing that was anoying at best was that the wait staff were bringing out plastic«take home» containers when one of us was still eating. What’s the rush? There were no customers waiting for the table. We arrived at 5:30pm and they were moving us out at 6:10pm. Definately no for the casual dining experience. They have no liquor license, but you can BYOB if you like. There is a package goods store next door.

Great Food, Great Prices, nice ambience! Diamond in the Rough. My family and I ate at the Hibachi for Father’s Day. I first had a «Lady Gaga» roll for appetizer. The fish tasted very fresh and the roll tasted great. Included in your Hibachi dinner is onion soup, garden salad with a creamy ginger dressing, 2 shrimp and fried rice.(No lo mein) All appetizers were very flavorful. Loved the salad dressing. For my main course I ordered Tofu. I am not a strict Pescatarian, so, I didn’t mind them cooking on the same surface as the meat. If you are strict vegetarian, I would suggest asking them to cook the food in the kitchen. The tofu was very good and very tasty. All of my family members were very happy with their food as well this included Shrimp, scallops, filet mignon, and chicken. There were 2 things I wasn’t fully happy with, and only reason it is not 5 stars. First, I like a spicing mustard dipping sauce and the 2 sauces they give you were not the best. Second, the waiting staff is looking at you the whole time your eating. I think the restaurant was a little over staffed so they were bored. All of the staff were very kind and attentive but needs to work on staring. All in all very good restaurant, great food, great prices, great ambience!
