While visiting family several times a year in Alstead, we always go to the Walpole Village Tavern for our evening meal. The quality of the food is good and the service is excellent. In addition to the good food, they have a nice selection of local draught beers without the usual national tasteless brands.

One of my favorite places to hang out because all the locals. Chances are you will see someone you know and the staff will remember your taste. Make sure not to sit on the end of the bar if Wild Bill is expected. That’s his seat! The food is decent but the small town environment is what you really stay for.

Time for a quick update. Over the last year, the quality of the Tavern’s food has declined a bit, in our opinion. Makes us wonder if they have some new kitchen personnel. Even the basics, like chicken tender or pork baskets, have lost a bit of tang. More menu items are coming to us on the bland side, slightly overcooked in some instances. Not sure what’s up, but as locals who dine here often, we’re disappointed and hoping for a speedy return to what we liked so much last year. The servers are still friendly but when they’re crowded service slows notably.

Love the food at the tavern. It’s great to have a nice place within walking distance that all of the locals enjoy. My only complaint with the tavern is that unless you’re known by the staff, your service can seriously suffer. In the times that I’ve been there without the regular crowd, it’s been a long service. I’ve had parts of my order completely forgotten by the staff before, and they offered to put it in — but it was for an appetizer when we had received our entrees. However, when the service is good(best when you’re at the bar or in the immediate area), my experiences have been great. For first timers, I definitely recommend the black and bleu burger! It’s fantastic. Burgers are well cooked to order and the steak fries are awesome.

I really want to love the Walpole Tavern. Very nice staff, a great Tavern atmosphere, and well stocked bar. The food is rather hit or miss. You can order the same thing on different nights and get almost two different dishes. One time suburb and the next time, not very good. Consistency is lacking and pricing is a little on the high side for what you get, but in line for the town considering the closest competition is Burdick’s. Nice selection of beers. Some nights brings in a heavier bar crowd than others.

Stopped for lunch with the family. Decent food, good service, and a long list of desserts we didn’t get a chance to try. Solid run of the mill tavern.

Perfect place to stop for lunch and a pint while you are enjoying the quaint village of Walpole. It was a somewhat busy afternoon, we were the youngest couple 40’s, in the place but that is what I come to expect in the middle of the afternoon. This is a quaint little spot where you expect to have blue plate specials. Not sure if they did but the portions were huge! I went with a Philly style cheese steak and it was 12 inches and filled with meat, cheese, peppers and onions. Our waitress was great. She was busy but efficient and super patient with the older clients who were a little slow and hard of hearing. I was very impressed with her demeanor and hope she makes descent money from the locals. Very reasonable price, clean and worth the stop! p.s. Check out the list of pies for dessert. There were at least 8 different pies from what I could read. I assumed they were serving them all that day but I was too stuffed from my 12″ loaf of meat to even ask about dessert.

Driving back from a field trip, I was passing through the Walpole town center and made a stop at the Walpole Village Tavern for dinner. This classic New England brick tavern has a casual, laid back, and cozy atmosphere with wood floors, two dining rooms with the small bar area in the center room. There are 6 beers on tap at the bar. The place was pretty busy on a typical weeknight and the friendly staff was conversing with the regulars. The menu offers typical pub fare including appetizers, salads, French onion soup, sandwiches, wraps, paninis, baskets, and burritos. Most items are under $ 11, dinner entrees($ 16.99-$ 21.99 plus tax) include Delmonico steak, scampi, chicken gorgonzola, beef tips, and baked portabella mushroom which include a trip to the salad bar(field greens, garnishes, dressings, cold pasta, potato salad). Kids meals are $ 5. On Wednesdays, all you can eat fish & chips($ 13.99) is offered and seniors get an additional 10 percent off. I decided on takeout since I needed to get back to Manch at a decent hour. I ordered the Pulled Pork Basket($ 9.99 plus tax), served with sweet potato fries, cole slaw, and pickle spear. The food was up in 10 minutes. The pulled pork had a good smoky BBQ flavor, sauce in the shredded meat(no fat) on a ciabatta roll. The sweet potato fries and the creamy dill cole slaw were very good too. There was enough food for 2 meals, which I had for lunch the next day.
