Very interesting history of racial injustice to Asians about this town and the next one over. Established in 1850 Walnut Grove is one of the earliest settlements along the Sacramento River. it holds the distinction of being the only river town along the Sacramento River to occupy both the east and west riverbanks. The community was racially segregated, only whites were allowed to own homes on the west side of the river. Even on the east side, the Asians separated into a Japanese section and a Chinese section. There were two elementary schools [a «white» school and Walnut Grove Oriental Elementary] until the Japanese were forcibly moved out of the area at the start of World War II. I liked walking around exploreing. We are going to come back and spend the night.

Established in 1850 by John W. Sharp, Walnut Grove is one of the earliest settlements along the Sacramento River. Locke is right next door, which makes these 2 communities the«Twin Cities». It’s a pretty drive up here, and with growing art community and Chinese history, it’s an interesting(albeit short) place to visit.

Walnut Grove is barely much of anything. I think the population is like 727 or something! So why the 4 stars? Because driving up the 160 through Walnut Grove along the river on a sunny day is so freaking awesome. Especially if you don’t have someone slow in front of you.
