Ariadne Auf Naxos was the worst opera I have ever seen. The set was bare, the cast wore street clothes, and the music was not engaging. I realize they are trying to save money, but they could have done better than this. I have enjoyed all their previous operas, but I think the organization is going down hill.

Ariadne auf Naxos was a smash! If you missed it, you definitely missed out!

I can’t say enough good things about this company, its musical director or any of the founding members. They bring emerging world-class singers to the sleepy little city of Walnut Creek and create some spectacular moments on stage. David Miller of Il Divo fame even got his start right there at the Lesher(among other more renown places!). I haven’t been to a production in a few seasons, but I’ve never been disappointed! Some of my favorite productions were Werther, Barber of Seville and Don Giovanni and many more!

Festival Opera has been around since the early 90’s and just seems to get better with age. Past performances include: La Boheme, Tosca, Aida, Candide, Madame Butterfly, etc. Performers are young up and coming opera singers with companies from San Francisco to Europe and beyond. They come to Festival Opera for summer stock performances that are truly amazing. On hot summer nights there is nothing better than watching«Opera In The Park» under the stars with a chilled glass of Chardonnay in hand. Otherwise you can catch a show at the Regional Center.
