Overall a poor experience.
I had just moved to the area but hadn’t got a haircut in a long while and needed to get cleaned up. Found this place which had mostly good reviews. Walked in and was warmly welcomed.
However, the haircut I received was rather unprofessional. The barber (?) didn’t even wash the gel out of my hair. Things ended up lopsided and he shaved areas of my head that didn’t make any sense.
I ultimately had to get a second haircut to fix this one. Giving it two stars due to the poor haircut but generally friendly staff.

I have been going to Ysabel for 20 plus years! She is the best! I always get compliments on my hair cuts! And her talents as a colorist are unbelievable. She knows what colors look best for your skin color but what I really like about Ysabel is her ability to make the colors a little more edgy.
As for Michael’s Hairworks, everyone in the salon is friendly and down to earth. It’s a relaxing place to spend time while having your hair cut and/​or colored. The prices are down to earth, too!

I’ve been to many hair salons in the Walnut Creek and Concord. I finally found the best place and it is Michael’s Hairworks in Walnut Creek. Sonia has been doing my hair for about the last year so thought it was time to tell the world about her!!! She does it all: color, highlight and cut and she does it all beautifully. Everyone in the salon is friendly and it has a very good vibe. So happy I found Sonia and Michaels Hairworks!!!

Sonia is the best! I used to come get my hair cut by Sonia, before I moved away for a couple years. Went back to see her today, and got a great haircut as always! Michael’s is under new management, as of last February, and the shop looks great. They now offer skin care, manicures, and pedicures as well!

After reading the various glowing 5 star reviews below, I thought i would get a better haircut at this place, but sadly I left disappointed and somewhat annoyed that I had just blown $ 22 on a distinctly mediocre cut (by Pam).Had I known that in advance, I would’ve just zipped down to a random barber shop for a fraction of the price. Long story short, if you’re a guy who wants a modern, styled salon cut — you may want to check elsewhere. This place is basically a barber shop with salon prices.

Saw this place on Unilocal and thought i’d give it a try. When I walked in, they immediately gave a warm welcome and sat me down. Pam was available so she took me on.
Pam is great: professional and friendly. The haircut turned out very well! By the end of it, she had done everything I asked for. Spiky and messy. At the same time office-​casual.
I generally dont like getting haircuts but this was an enjoyable experience. I will definitely be back for my next haircut!
Update: Went back again today. Pam did my hair again and she did another amazing job. See you again!

Moved out here in Walnut Creek a few months ago and took a chance with Pam. Been going here ever since! Pam does what ever style I want with my hair and does an excellent job everytime! Definitely recommend for new comers to try! You won’t get disappointed!

This review is a shoutout to Mona! I’ve been getting my eyebrows done by her for about a year now, and she never fails to do an impeccable job while being super friendly, helpful, and great to talk to. I’m not very particular about my eyebrows but somehow she always knows how to shape them just right for my face. She’s very patient and makes relevant suggestions about maintaining my brows, and is willing to impart her knowledge freely. The threading experience can also be uncomfortable/​painful for some but she alleviates that by being very warm, kind, and efficient. I miss getting my eyebrows done in her artistic and considerate style — If I were closer to Walnut Creek I’d go visit her all the time!

Have been going to Hairworks for years, using John. He’s a true barber (meaning he can shave you with a razor) and he’s fantastic. The former owner, he’s now «scaled back» to just cutting hair. He’s terrific and will squeeze you in on short notice. Love the place!

The older gentleman gives incredible cuts. I got lucky with a walk in but this guy is popular. Other than him stabilizing my head with my fingers, I never felt my hair being cut. He was that gentle and precise both on my head and beard. I was surprised and completely satisfied with my cut. Thanks man.

This shop has new management that continues a decades long commitment to great cuts, fair prices, and consistent service. Don’t go downtown or to a franchise with inexperienced barbers. If you live in this neighborhood or commute on Ygnacio Valley Road then this is your shop.

This review goes out to Mona and her amazing eyebrow threading skills. Mona works fast and is knowledgable about what she’s doing. She helped me shape my thick eyebrows while making them still look natural. I’ve gone to a bunch of other places to get my brows threaded but for Mona’s price and talent she is the best – bar none.

It was my first time going here Luwanda did a great job on my roller set the shop was clean and everyone was very friendly.

I just finished my hair with Pam… I haven’t had my hair professionally cut or colored in 10 years!!! She was absolutely amazing… Knew what she was doing completely. Took her time and you can tell she loves what she does.
My hair looks amazing, I will be back for sure :)

I rarely post on Unilocal,but today I had such a great experience that I had to post here!
I am a guy and typically only go to an all dudes barbershop so I was initially a little nervous going to salon. I was really lucky because the owner of the shop ended up giving me a ²⁄₃ blend.
Pam, the owner, was incredibly friendly and was actually informative of how to take care of my hair and scalp. She was delightfully efficient and paid great attention to detail.
All in all, I had a great experience here and will definitely be coming back. Would recommend to anyone needing a nice cut.

I decided to give this place a try because I heard there was a new owner and i recently received a coupon in the mail for their services. I was immediately greeted when I walked in by the lovely and energetic new owner Pam. It also looks as though the place has been recently painted and it looks beautiful inside.
I was paired up right away with John, who has over 40 years experience cutting hair. And boy does it show! He cut my hair perfectly in a timely manner. He even had some great recommendations on products to use for my dry scalp. Pam helped me out as well and gave me a great deal on the hair products.
John also gave me a hot shave and massage. I’ve never had a hot shave with a straight razor before and i was a bit nervous but he didn’t even knick me once! Overall a great experience and i will definitely be back to use their services again! Thank you Pam and John!

Decided to check this place out on Sunday since Gardelles was closed. The shop is under new management by a great lady named Pam. She gave me a clean cut, threw in a quick shoulder massage, and recommended some repair product since I wash my hair a lot. The place is still undergoing a transformation, so don’t expect perfection just yet, but worth a try if you live in the area and want to support a local business.

$ 19 for a good haircut. What a bargain!
Pam cut my hair and did a great job. Lots of suggestions of things to do and nice chit chat.
The setting is a bit drab inside. It looks like the before scene in a reality HGC makeover show.
Like anywhere else they really prefer cash over credit card. The place is open 9 – 6 all days except Sunday.
