More than 20 years ago I was suffering from depression and in desperate need of help. I was also scraping by financially and could not afford professional help. Dr. Tannenbaum was the only doctor willing to adjust his fee based on my financial situation. I am now happily married for 16 years and two great kids. I have Dr. Tannenbaum to thank for that. I have never forgotten his generosity and never will.

I have a beloved button collection that I started when I was a kid. Next to the political and progressive sentiments, there are some silly ones, including one that says, «Don’t thank me, thank Prozac.» I’m not actually on Prozac, but I have suffered from depression and anxiety for much of my life, and sometimes I need medical help in order to be a productive member of society. That’s where Dr. Tanenbaum comes in. Dr. T. as I call him, was recommended to me by a friend who’d seen him for a couple years. It’s now been five years that every three months I make the trek to his office in Walnut Creek. I recommended him to an ex-boyfriend who travels from Marin to see him and he’s had a good experience, too. Dr. T isn’t particularly hip and his office isn’t very stylish, but under his shaggy hair – behind his big glasses – is a kind person who is a very good doctor. If you or someone you love is in need of a psychiatrist, I can recommend Dr. Tanenbaum wholeheartedly. Give his border collie, Lucy, my best. Her gentle, supportive presence is part of the healing process, too.
