Still the ideal shop; they return calls promptly; provide just great customer service. They give me the perfect feeling when I drop my car (s) off, I know they’ll get it right and it will be a fair price.

Frank and Paul have been my go to car guys for the last five years. I trust them 100%. They are busy, but they will always get back to me and take a look right away to tell me if whatever issue I am having will be okay until they can fit me in… or if necessary they would refer me to someone they trust who could work on my car right away. If it’s something tiny they just have me drop by and they fix it on the fly. Really great guys and they know what they are doing.

Excellent, honest, friendly service. I haven’t been charged by them for work regarding an O2 sensor still under warranty. They were very friendly and I’ll definitely be bringing my cars back to them in the future.

After receiving a quote from the Subaru dealership, I called Frank and Paul’s. Another reason we were looking elsewhere is because the service has just gone down hill at the dealership. Frank and Paul’s price is very competitive and the work (100K service) is honest and good per my husband who works on his Ford Ranger all the time. They showed me my used parts (timing belt, brake pads, and water pump) and explained what I was looking at. I came away feeling secure that my car was in working order and that I now have a new place to bring my car in to. Thank you for taking great care of my car.

Had Frank and Paul change the timing belt and water pump in my 02 WRX with 181k miles. I usually do my own service work so I am always weary of letting others touch my car but they did a great job with it. Even before the service, they told me that I probably did not need to replace everything and told me what usually needs to be done and recommended that I didn’t get all the parts that I was going to replace. Post job, they talked over the state of each part just for my information and were super thorough with everything.
They are honest and hard working guys and you should definitely bring your vehicle in to them. They book up so call them early! It’s not that they get behind on schedule, they just want to make sure that you and your vehicle get the attention that they need.

Went by F&P’s to see if they could install a new power antennae and they both dropped what they were doing to sort it out. Scheduled a 150K maintenance with them right then and there on our Lexus and came away very pleased that I’ve found a shop I can TRUST. This is what a local repair shop SHOULD be like and I’m thrilled to have found them! Thanks Frank and Paul!

Frank and Paul absolutely wonderful and competent, and have the highest degree of integrity around. They have done stellar work on my car for years, and have saved me a ton of money. They are honest and look our for their clients best interests, and will make sure you are not being «taken» by other car shops. Go here, they will take care of you. Word has spread, they are in high demand, but they are more than worth the wait.

The best experience I have ever had with a auto repair shop. Great honest guys. If they a booked for a couple weeks and you can wait– it’s worth the wait to go to them. As long as I’m living in San Francisco I will be taking my car to them.

Finding Frank and Paul Saved me $ 850 in my first trip to their shop. So glad to finally find our local shop for our car care! The local dealer insisted I needed to spend $ 1200 for a new water pump and belt. I wanted to find a better place for our car care and scheduled time with Frank and Paul to have a look. Not only was their work going to be $ 400 less than the dealer, they called early in the morning after looking at my car to say «if this was our car, we wouldn’t spend the $ 850 to replace the pump. It doesn’t need it yet». What a relief to find honesty. It earns loyalty and Frank and Paul understand that well. Thank you. You’ve earned our business for a long while.

I am a car owner who keeps my cars for 10 – 14 years. Frank and Paul have worked on two of my cars and will soon be servicing my new car. I have been able to keep my cars in good working condition due to their expertise. They are honest and very, very helpful. When recently purchasing my next car, I had to be sure that with the warranty, etc. that I could still take my car to them. They are the best.

The best! These guys are literally the best and most honest mechanics around. We had a slight emergency with our car that needed to be handled right away and although they weren’t able to schedule us at their main shop, they sent us to another shop that they have part ownership in, and we were again not let down. The standard that these guys have set for the industry is what is making them the best around.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said? Amazing customer service, honest work, couldn’t ask for anything more.

Honesty is gold, and this is what you will find in Frank and Paul’s Auto Repair. As a first-​time customer, I was so lucky to take my car to this shop. Not long ago, I had been to another shop to do a tire rotation, and the shop owner told me that my car also needed a brake service right away as my brake pads were low. They quoted me a price of more than $ 800 for a regular brake service or $ 1,000 for a premium brake service. Skeptical of the rhetoric, I decided to take my car to Frank and Paul for a checkup. Frank told me that I did not need a brake service. My car could still run for another 5,000 to 10,000 miles. Frank also told me that when the time comes, their charge would be just about $ 250 for this brake service. That was a day-​and-​night difference from what I had heard from the other shop. I was so lucky!
Frank and Paul’s Auto Repair will be my shop from now on. Yes, when I called for an appointment this time, it was a long wait– about two weeks before they could schedule me in. But the wait was definitely worth it! It just shows that many people are like me to want to get their service.

Recently, I was searching for a local auto repair shop to start doing regular services for my vehicles. Finding a good mechanic (or in this case, a pair of mechanics) is tricky as there are many shops out there just looking to make a quick buck or charge you for repairs or services that you don’t really need. While I have been wary of Unilocal at times, in this case, I turned to it to see if there was any stars in the mix. And it turns out, there was… and with 5-​star ratings from a huge majority of reviewers, I decided to check Frank and Paul out.
First thing, these guys are busy. You need to be sure to call about 2 weeks ahead to book an appointment. Also, now they tend to only service Japanese cars (but if you are a long time customer, they will continue to service your American car.)
I brought in a Nissan to have a 60k check up, knowing that at the dealer, the prices can be higher than local shops. Price was important to me, but so was service. Having booked my appointment, these guys walked me through what the dealer would do. They explained all of the services they would do, told me they would use Nissan parts, and would call if there were any issues or if repairs had to be done outside of the quote. I did get a call during the service. It turned out that I had long life fluid in the vehicle and didn’t need that to be changed (a savings on my total cost) but I needed a new belt because the current one was showing age (cracking). So the savings and the new item were pretty much a wash. But it was nice to know what was going on. The service was done on time and well. They even pulled Service Bulletins on the vehicle to see if there was anything I needed to do under warranty.
When I picked up my car, they told me that if I ever had any questions, to just drop by and ask.
About a week or so later, I had to do just that. It was a Friday afternoon and my other vehicle started having a loud scratching/​scraping noise coming from one of the wheels. I drove my car over and while they were starting to close up shop, they were able to jack up the car and found a rock lodged in the brakes. They removed the rock and took of the tire to inspect the brakes. All checked out fine and they sent me on my way — without a charge at all (WOW!)
Then a few weeks later, I found a screw in one of my tires. After searching around at various service stations and finding that nobody patched tires, I drove over to Frank and Paul’s and asked them. They told me they don’t do flats or patches but recommended a place (America’s Tire) that would patch and balance the tire for free (which America’s Tire does, btw — shhhhh!)
Anyway, the bottom line after a few experiences with Frank and Paul’s is that they have totally won me over as a new customer. Service with a smile, extremely helpful, not greedy and reliable are a few phrases I would use to describe them.
While I hope that I won’t have to come back anytime soon (I want smooth running cars), I do know that if I have problems, Frank and Paul are there to help! And while I don’t want this neighborhood secret to get out, these guys deserve the high rating!

When you call them to schedule an appointment to drop your car off, and they say it may take a week or more to get an appointment, do not let that worry you. Just like waiting for a great table at French Laundry in SF, it is worth the wait. Of course, this was just my experience, in a busy month, but again, don’t be turned off. Think of the result of waiting for a great table. But no, Frank nor Paul will serve you a french meal. Then again, maybe they will, I don’t know, they seem awesome and willing to do anything!
So, my 2005 Rav4 had a bizarre brake sound going on. Frank and Paul investigated and found that a prior repair place that put new brakes on the car 6 months prior didn’t do it right, they didn’t «machine the rotors» and the «shims were out of place.» (For the record, this «other» place is in NC, where I bought the car from my parents, long story there). Anyway, Paul checked and found the brakes were safe, but likely might need a full replacement to completely end the sound, though he did want to see what else can be done to perhaps fix the mistakes of the prior car place. A few hours later, he did, and we went from what might have been a $ 600+ repair (and from what I recall, brakes are just about that price if not more in most places), down to about $ 65 from Paul/​Frank taking the time and getting creative.
I have a terrible history with car repair places and when something is wrong with my car, I have a similar nervousness to going to the doctors. What is it, what will it cost? And usually you get jerked around or scared into submission to pay more. If I took my car to a dealership, or a big name chain, I am sure they wouldn’t have been creative, and would have made me pay up.
I cannot recommend this place enough. It is worth the wait, and they really do work with you on your schedule. I also feel that I can completely trust them. In my case, I dropped the car off at night and they even took payment over the phone and locked the keys in the car so I could pick it up on my own time at night. They also do offer rides to BART, etc., if needed, but I didn’t need to take advantage of that at this time.

Nicest, most honest guys around. I have been taking my Toyota here for four years. Although they are a small two-​man shop and you have to book things like oil changes 2 – 3 weeks in advance, these guys are worth the wait. They don’t overcharge and for little things like a taillight bulb, they charge their cost – only a couple of bucks! I am a woman and always felt that previous car shops would try to take advantage of me, but Frank and Paul always carefully explain the problem (and show me) and never pressure me into anything.
They also took care of my car when it was hit while parked on the side of the street. The sideview mirror was almost completely taken off (hanging by a wire). They did a great job fixing it, quick and inexpensive.
Highly recommend. I only wish I could find a body shop as reliable as them!

I had an appointment today and was very pleased with the customer service. I was in and out quickly and they reset my engine light with no charge. I will definitely be referring my friends. Thank you

These guys are very friendly and reliable. I had an issue with my Honda Civic (check engine light etc.) I took it in on short notice. and Paul took a look under the hood, found the issue immediately, tinkered with a few things, added some oil to the belt and I was good to go, out the door and he asked for nothing in return but for me to come back for business. They can be sure they just made a new customer.
