The service orders are below 1 star. When you call ahead for an order for pick up for a specific time it’s never been on time.

This was my first time at Alborz, having dinner with a friend. I am surprised about some of the negative reviews regarding service. We were greeted as if we were family. I liked the feeling right away. Relaxing over a glass of wine and a shrimp appetizer we slowly decided on an entrée choice. I had the salmon skewer with rice and spinach. The salmon was grilled perfectly.(Shah and Concho)…don’t know if I spelled their names correctly… were our servers and they came to our table often enough that we were well served… but not aggressively to make us feel like we had to hurry. It was a pleasant evening, great ambiance and great food. I will go again and bring friends. They could use some help in getting more customers it seems. There were many more tables than patrons… Give it a try. I think you will be well pleased.

I wanted to try Persian/Iranian food with my fiancé for the first time and we decided to check in here because I always pass this place on Mt. Diablo and wanted to see what it’s all about. Good: The hostess/waitress was a really friendly lady. There was a dish we didn’t like and she replaced it with another one. She checked up on us several times and made sure we felt welcomed. Great music and vibe all around. Parking was plentiful and seating was comfortable. We both loved the eggplant appetizer, koobideh beef w/rice, chicken kabob, sparkling wine. Bad: Pita bread with raw onion, seriously? How about some olive oil instead? Also, waitress grabbed our tip while we were still seating and talking after our meal. I understand it was approaching a closing time, but that was the first for us. In any case, don’t let bad reviews mislead you to this place. Keep in mind, that majority of the world doesn’t smile at strangers like Americans. It’s a different culture, but these people are actually very nice.

From their food to their friendly people, amazing service. As a Persian born, I give it 5 stars. I’ve tried many different dishes there and loves it all. try their appetizer combo platter, and if there is something you don’t like, they are willing to supplement something instead. from main mains, the lamb filet is the best, super soft and tender. It is on the $$$ side, but worth it. overall, everything was delicious I’ve had there so far. cheers

I have been to this place multiple times. It seems to be suffering from a lack of committed ownership. Food here is not bad. Its okay enough that I have been here repeatedly. I don’t think I’ll be back again. Lack of good service, reported by others, is real. No one comes around to check on you. Its real folks, not imaginary or out of any bitterness. I would have given them 2 stars but when the waiter pre-added a 20% for himself, after ignoring us all evening, the restaurant had to loose another star. I think this place can be great if ownership was engaged. However, we wouldn’t be seeing this many reviews about service complaints and no fix in months, if there were any hope.

I honestly have nothing to compare it to, this was my first time eating Persian food. The staff was friendly, bread was warm when served, food was aromatic and tasty. Overall I was content. The lamb was cooked perfectly. sauce was delicious over rice.

I have eaten here five or six times and tried most of the items on the menu. I have also tried most of the Persian restaurants in the East Bay. The food here has always been good. My five star review is based only on the food. There are better restaurants for a romantic dinner, but if you just want a juicy keboob and basmati rice, this is the place. My service has always been good and my takeout was done in 20 minutes. JG

Food was good. The service was terrible. They had one waiter and one bus boy serving the entire restaurant. The waiter was also taking care of the«to go» orders. The restaurant has a nice ambiance but you can see it’s a little worn. The bathrooms were not very clean.

Well. I feel conflicted. As I’ve been here many times, and most of the time the food is good. The food tonight was very good with the exception of the beef.(They ran out of the koobideh beef. Bummer!) They actually took our order and 4 out of the 6 of us ordered the koobideh. 30 minutes AFTER they took our order they came back and said they were out of the koobideh! I wanted to say, ’ it took you 30 minutes to figure out you ran out of it?!’ There was no apology, the waiter retook our order and walked away. It was disappointing. So the 4 of us ordered the other kind of beef, «barg». It wasn’t good. It actually had a funny taste. They did, however, bring us 2 baklavas on the house, which we all liked. I’d like to give them a 3 ¾ star as they did try to make up for it, plus the appetizers we ordered; ghormasabzi on tadig and the fesenjoon on tadig, Shirazi salad and mastmousir(yogurt with shallots), were quite good! We eat Persian food often and know the different dishes and I feel the appetizers were pretty darn close to homemade. :) Its on the pricey side, ranging between$ 20−30p/p. Also, there is a cozy parking lot, wheelchair accessible, available in front. All in all, we had a happy ending. We’ll be back again.

Good food, We have been eating at Alborz since they were located in Fremont. We travel to their San Francisco location as well. In August we had a family event in the Walnut Creek restaurant and struggled with customer service. The food remains good, however our experience this evening proved their poor customer service a norm. I hope they improve, I really enjoy their food as does my family who are native to Iran. However, at that price, good customer service should not be sacrificed.

WSE! Worst Service Ever! read on for a full review. I never realized this place was actually there, even though it’s hard to miss if you’re driving eastbound on Mt. Diablo. Huge real estate with lots and lots of space. Colorful outside seatings(i think it’s closed due to the weather), and dimmed lighting gives this place a really ‘fancy’ or an upscale feel to it. there were three of us: my wife, my son, and I. Upon our entrance, were greeted with not a smile, but rather a long face … Let’s stop here for a sec. If you don’t enjoy your work then here’s a thought … resign. And if you don’t enjoy your life then … Back to the smile-less staff; «…A table for two and a kid …» was all I heard as she marched into the main dining room while myself and my family are trailing behind her. We sit down, 30sec later she comes back … «You ready?» she asks. «hmmm, yea sure. The menu looks pretty straight forward» so we do order. This must’ve been a major inconvenience, after all, how dare we order food at a restaurant!!! If you ask for a drink, it will never show-up(it may show up 10 – 15 min later if you’re one of the lucky few). Try ask for anything else beyond your initial order, and you’re SOL. The food itself was just O.k. Nothing spectacular, even though their prices suggests otherwise. Anyways, food-wise, you’re better off grabbing a plate for a grocery store. Service-wise, you’re better at In-N-Out. I’m out :-)

This was my third and last time in Alborz. The food is mediocre considering the price. If it was for the food I would have given it 3 stars despite the rice being cold and salty. The chicken and koobideh kebob as well as the rice were salty. However the customer service was one of the worst I have ever received. The waitress just delivered the food and never came back to check on us. We were a large group of ten and all of felt the same way. There were not many customers in the restaurant, nevertheless she looked so impatient with getting orders. One of us ordered a thick soup called Ash-Reshteh and she forgot to bring it at all. We did not request it again as she didn’t show up for quite some time!!! Overall here is one of my worst restaurant experiences ever.

We had lunch and everyone working there seems to be just miserable or angry. Not a smile, no welcomes were extended to us. Sour faces when our order was taken or when we asked for more tea(no service was offered while we were there). I felt very uncomfortable and won’t be back.

The Ambiance really lovely and I love how spacious it is inside. I ate a late dinner around 9pm and was pleased to see it was still open and busy. Slightly inattentive wait staff but again it was late so I get it. The tahdig is amazing. This is a traditional Persian dish that’sade of crunchy rice covered in stew. Try it with the sabzi. The joogeh soltani is to die for. One strip of koohbideh which is ground beef and one skewer of chicken. The chicken was amazing, so favorful My friend ordered something with crushed walnuts and pom sauce. I’m Persian and I’ve never tasted anything like it. I loved it. My only complaints are that my friends dish didn’t have much chicken, maybe 5 small pieces in a giant bowl of sauce. The rice was slightly overcooked and was splitting at the ends. Otherwise I was really happy with the meal and will be back very soon and with reinforcements.

My first experience with Persian good — and it won’t be my last. The food at Alborz was very good if s bit different from my usual fare. I had the house soup and the shishkabob — I really enjoyed the soup and the filet used for the kabobs were quite tender. Wife had the beet salad and FESENJOON! The FESENJOON was really interesting and yummy. Freshly crushed walnuts simmered in pomegranate sauce with chicken. A sweet spivey flavor. I would definitely have this next time. Persian food and Alborz — worth trying!

NEVERNEVERNEVERBOOKTHISPLACEFORYOURPRIVATEEVENT/FAMILY GATHERING. I called Alborz over a week before my family gathering to tell them that I wanted to reserve a portion of the restaurant for about 20 guests. They told me for big parties they can do $ 50/person which would include appetizer/meal/desert. APPETIZER: tiny little cups of salad shirazi and yogurt and a plate of eggplant for every 5 people. MEAL: half an hour after appetizers i went to the manager and asked what the status of the main course was and i was shocked when she said they hadn’t even started– they were waiting for me to say something. they knew to bring out the appetizers and they knew our order(we had placed it a week before) and yet they were sooooooooooooooo unresponsive and anything but proactive. DESERT: i’ve been to alborz many times before and i’ve had their bakhlava before– always big portion with nice chocolate syrup around the plate for nice presentation. however, for my event they brought out tiny little peices of bakhlava with no chocolate syrup. when i asked about the poor presentation i was told that they ran out of the chocolate syrup(even though they knew about my order over a week beforehand!!!) this place really does not care about serving your event or making any sort of effort for customer service. for $ 50/person it would have been cheaper for each guest to just order their own food and desert and appetizer. what we got was horrible and an embarrassment. Also, the overall service was just BAD, they didn’t ask for drinks or bring any out until I asked. and when they did bring drinks the drinks were bad so they had to switch out all the drinks. they didn’t care to bring more bread when they bread was out on the tables… of course, i had to say something before they did anything. instead of enjoying my gathering i was stressed out the entire time because of the horrible horrible horrible service. do yourself and your guest a favor and stay clear of this place! such a pity a beautiful restaurant like this doesn’t know how to operate.

The food is really good here, and the service is great! Make sure you make a reservation if you’re bringing a large group of people in, so you’re all seated more quickly! The atmosphere is relaxing & decorated nicely. I actually tried lamb here for the first time, and although I’m not much of a fan. It did taste pretty good the way they prepared it! The rice is also really good too!
