I actually prefer this location rather than Lodi but I had a bad experience with the one woman who checks your ID/​paperwork (short brown hair). While in line she made it a point to speak loudly with a man and his teen son saying «I shouldn’t even be talking to you!» Well I had to go to her for a form and a piece of paper which she said I was asking for things they don’t provide (as she handed them to me lol). I shrugged it off. I had to go back to her again and I was missing information (lost old plates) and while I figured I would have to come back I asked her how I would go about finding my old plate number. I didn’t have any info (lost during move) and she started to get loud with me and I in turn came back at her. I asked a simple question. She sent me back up to the counter to the woman I was dealing with at registration and that woman helped me by looking it up for me. I told her I owe her a coffee and her response… oh no it’s my job! What a difference in customer service. While my experience with the woman in registration was a pleasure the one checking paperwork ruined it. She needs to be fired!

Yesterday the computers were down. Today they only have a handful of employees rotating every 5 minutes to a different position which is utterly insane. Expect a two hour wait even if you arrive before they open.

Welcome to the Land of No Smiles. The receptionists are all grumpy looking and there is this one lady there that speaks so condescendingly to everyone and she does it in a loud voice so that everyone can hear. I give it 3 stars because I was in and out pretty quickly which was good because I felt like there were dementors in there sucking the happiness out of everyone. As soon as I left, I had a piece of chocolate and felt much better.

After a recent registration snafu for which I could cast a blanket of blame (DMV/​Lexus/​me) I realized that I needed to just bite the bullet and handle it ASAP.
The registration desk representatives are not all-​smiles, but how can you blame them when they have (very unshowered, very unkempt) people who ask the same questions over and over, and who fail to bring the proper documentation with them time and time and time again? I witnessed a slew of people who felt that they should be the exceptions to the rules. They were promptly turned away and rightfully so. Showing up without the proper documents will guarantee you a trip to the exit door. DUH!
In my experiences, arriving before they first open is futile, as the line is usually a mile long and you will be there even longer. Everyone has the same idea and you wind up waiting even longer than if you just went an hour or so later in the day. If you can avoid this, then definitely try.
My experience at this location was truly a breeze. I was in and out in 20 minutes and I no longer had to worry about being a non-​compliant driver. The staff was very kind to me, including the police officer at the entrance. He seemed like he genuinely wanted to help people get in and out quickly.
DMV is seen as a necessary evil, but all of my experiences here have been positive. This is not a place that I would visit for fun, but I don’t dread it either.

I was in and out 10 minutes for my registration. The ladies at the receptionist are nasty, rest of the staff are friendly and helpful.

Like any other non-​insane person, I do not like the DMV. This one was not completely horrible. It was extremely busy due to the lunch time rush but I was in and out the door in about 1 hour. That’s not dial obviously, but it was extremely crowded so it could definitely have been worse. The employees are generally pretty nice and understanding.
There were a couple of things that could have been improved– the employees at the first counter you visited after you entered occasionally went in the back to get something for a customer or drop something of. This took a while and since there were only 2 of them, definitely held up the line. There also should have been more people working– some counters were empty. There were pretty long lines and it was one of the busier times of day so I didn’t really hnderstand that.
This place only made me moderately annoyed which is better than some other locations where I was very close to losing it.

For a DMV, it’s relatively painless. Lines are generally shorter & they move the line quickly. Staff are courteous, efficient & fair (gasp!). If lines are long, there’s a deli & Dunkin Donuts next door. Plus, you can stare at the people working out next door.
A model for other DMVs to follow. That’s why I’ve been renewing my license here for years.

I cant believe im saying this but I had such a pleasant experience at this DMV. I usually go to the Bayonne DMV and every time I feel like blowing my head off. This DMV was quick, efficent and everyone was pleasant. I went with my sister to get a new ID and I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. I will drive 40 minutes from Bayonne to this DMV just because I am sane here vs any other DMV in my area.

Why would anyone in their right mind rate a DMV 5 stars? Well, either a) I am not in my right mind, b) Painless experience with friendly service, probably c) all of the above.
Actually when I arrived on a Monday at about 11am and saw the long line pouring out the door and onto the sidewalk I was disheartened, however after a minute someone spotted me with license plates and informed me I could just walk up to the Sheriff and drop them off.
Skeptical and a bit turned on, I approached the (female) Officer and she took my plates, smiled and greeted me, gave me a receipt and I was out the door in less than a minute. Completely painless.
I cant speak as to their other services, the line was really long and nobody seemed happy — but then again they didn’t get to talk to Officer Hotness (taking liberty with her name here.)

Just returned from a great experience at this DMV. I’ve lived in 4 different states in the past 5 years so I know a thing or two about transferring car registrations and drivers licenses. I was the second person in line on a Wednesday afternoon. I spoke with a friendly front desk person within 2 minutes, was given forms to fill in, she helped me when I missed a few boxes, and I was told to stand in a line. Then I was the third person in line, and saw another representative within 5 minutes. Processing the registration and new license took about 15 minutes and I was out the door. All in all, a fantastic DMV experience. I only sat down once to fill in my paperwork! I was really impressed by efficiency and friendliness of their agents. I drove past another DMV to get to this one and am glad I made the trek.

Much easier than going to Wayne or Newark to renew any of your DMV documents, or to change plates. I have done both here and never a problem. The line can get pretty long, but last time I went there I only arrived 15 minutes prior to opening and I was the first in line. Workers were very helpful & nice.

I got a very good experience with this DMV, the staff is friendly and addresses the problem if any, no queues like other DMV’s.

Done Better off renewing in mail but for registration renewal it was easy cheesy. DMV worker was very good

Funny how dealing normally w/​NY DMV and coming to NJ is 1 totally different worlds. This place is way dated, not even close to state of the art. Lots of handwritten signs around, it actually gives the place character, i’ve come here a few times already and the workers are always very nice and patient (unlike NY).

Well it is a DMV not sure what service you expect but you should lower those expectations!
This is the only DMV I use and now my whole family comes here. The lines are half or less the lines than any other.
They don’t do vehicle inspections they do everything else.
Couple of rules to follow — dont come the last 3 days of a month! dont come the first three either– you get all those who forgot to come before end of month. Mid month is best, specifically Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday mornings around 8:30 are a breeze!
The biggest problem is definitely the receptionist at the front. They’re not exactly jaguars so to speak. Move more like My grandmas hoopdee if you know what I mean. So the line outside is created more by these people than anything else. Once you get passed them you’re golden.

The staff is relatively friendly. The lady who completed my registration was a cross between stern and friendly, if that is possible. She smiled when I made small talk, but was stern with signing papers quickly and moving me right along.
You might have to wait outside for a bit before the security officers let you in, but once in there is a receptionist desk that lets you know where to go and you either wait to get your registrations done with in the express lane or you wait in the sitting area. I went in to switch an out-​of-​state license to NJ State. All in all, from the time I stepped into line around noon outside to the time I left, it took 1 hour and 15 minutes. A little bit of a wait, but not too bad. I would go back to this DMV.

I went at 8 am to deal with a missing registration. They had two lines inside (long one was for licenses) and the service I got was good, nice lady explained how i had to write Trenton to get a refund on a doubly paid registration and then gave me all I needed to make it happen. Every one was polite. Come early and midweek and mid month is best.
This place is so much better than Lodi-​I have been to Lodi-​it is a total pit. This place is fine if you get there first thing in the morning.

I went the to this DMV to renew my license this past July. I had to wait on line outside in 90+ degree heat for close to an hour. It was great sweating my a** off and getting bit by green flies.
Once inside, it went pretty smooth.
There has got to be a better system than forcing people to wait outside in the elements.

I have never in all my days been to such a rude, unorganized and understaffed establishment! My 86 year old grandmother had to renew her license. Instead of letting her do it via mail, they now require people of all ages to come out into sweltering heat and do it in person. We arrived at the Wallington MV at around 10:00am. There was a line of about 75 people or so out the door. The tempature was approaching 94 degrees and there was a lot of elderly people there. They brought lawn chairs so they didnt have to stand, and the owner of the pizzeria next door would come over occasionally and sell bottles of water and lemon ice. My grandma went inside so to sit in the air condition while I waited on line for her. It took me an hour an a half before I even got close to the door. Then a rude nasty Officer Janusz from the Wallington police department shows up on an ego trip. She starts yelling at everyone. «Get behing the line» «Shut the door» «No cell phones» She even yelled at my grandmother because she came out side to tell me something! Who does that? I felt like I was in an penetentary. If you left any bottles of water or any belongings unattended for more than 30 seconds she would throw them right in the garbage. If someone could recreate hell in a small building this would be it. I finally got called up to the receptionist. She handed us a piece of paper and said to go have a seat in the photo area. We look at the piece of paper and it read number 123, they were calling 78. It was another hour and a half before she got up there. She literally handed them a piece of paper, they printed her license and she was done in 3 minutes, too bad we wasted 3 hours of our lives waiting to be called. My grandmother was so distraught and upset she went home and took 2 tranquilizers. Not only is this stressful, aggravating and annoying but to top it off robo cop had to scream at us every chance she got. I would advise anyone that wants to keep their sanity and peace of mind to stay as far away from this place as possible.
