Waller County Line BBQ

2 meat plate was great portion. 2 sides and bread included. Had sausage, brisket, beans and slaw. Mild sauce was good. I was I asked for extra. They have a spicy which would have been good with sausage. Good price and great location off freeway. Definitely coming back.

By far the best bbq around. The brisket has a nice bark and pink ring, and unlike other bbq joints that cut their meat thin to hide the toughness Waller County BBQ cuts it thick while remaining tender. Do yourself a favor and also check out the ribs and the very best smoked boudin around! Ok so the place is in a Shell station, but there is still lots of seating and room to spread out. Try anything from the menu and you’ll be pleased, but don’t leave without some spicy smoked boudin, and yes you can and should eat the case

Oh Hell yes. On several drives to Houston I have stopped at this place. You smell it before you see it; real wood smoke, folks.
My go to are the chopped and sliced beef sandwiches, which are rich, smoky and just damn good. As with most Texas BBQ joints, sides are pedestrian, though the beans are good here. If quail is available, you must try it.
The bad reviews indicate a serious ignorance about Texas BBQ as many seem to think the Hill Country Style is the only kind. Get some education, folks. Texas has 5 distinct regional styles of BBQ and more sub-​region styles. This is NOT Hill Country style and DOES NOT CLAIM TO BE. Stop bringing your «Hey I’ve been to Franklin’s and Snow’s and I know BBQ» blinders here. Hit the road of this great state with an open mind and explore the regional styles.
There is a small dining area with tables though most get to go. Reminds me of places in east Texas I’ve stopped. Gas stations selling chopped beef sandwiches is definitely an east Texas thing, and I’m happier for it.
Really friendly ladies serve you here. It’s just great.

Went here for breakfast I thought.. No one stop to ask what we wanted or if we have been helped. we were patient enough to stand and wait for at least 25 mins with no acknowledge that we were there. I know the cook is elderly but if you’re about customer service get some more help back there. This was a disaster!

Dry tasteless brisket. Sorry excuse for BBQ but maybe the best around here? It’s located inside a gasoline station.

Three of our children attend Prairie View A&M. Every time we come down we stop here. This place has the best Texas barbeque you would ever want. The portions are so large we ALWAYS have some to bring back to Ft. Worth. You absolutely cannot go thru Prairie View without stopping, you would be missing a treat!

I’m shocked at the number of bad reviews. This is a must rest stop when traveling on 290. The bbq chopped beef potato is the best i have ever had! My family loves to stop here to get food. They have huge turkey legs but often sold out. The bathrooms are always clean when we come here. The seating area is not glamorous… but its a gas station! Come on ppl…

My family and I came on the manager special baked potato day and they were delicious and huge I almost ate it all but I stopped myself so I could go back and try some of their cakes red velvet, lemon, and so many choices. I finally settled on the yellow cake the cake was nice and spongy and the frosting was amazing!!! I’m not a frosting fan but this frosting was more cream cheese and not that other stuff others try to say is make from scratch. We enjoyed the boudain and the sausage and lastly of course the brisket we couldn’t get enough of!!! I’m a pretty simple person when it come to eating no mayo no bbq sauce nothing on my food but the bbq sauce is so sweet and not tomato flavored I poured it all over my baked potato and brisket!

Went here for lunch today & tried: the shredded beef baked potato all the way (ginormous & delicious), beef brisket both smoked w/​fat & lean (the lean was too dry, but the smoked was fantastic), boudin, & the regular sausage. We were too full to try their yummy looking homemade desserts. Will definitely be back!

Great food! I got a two meat plate and it came with two sides. Sausage was good! And lean brisket was also tasty. Potato salad was just how I like it. Beans were ok. It was a nice day and I just wish they had more outdoor seating.

We had chopped beef sandwiches, and they were both good and easy on the budget.
I’m puzzled by the bad reviews. This is a gas station barbecue joint, and that makes it better than average.

Do not get anything other than the BBQ Baked Potato!!! It is loaded to the brim with delicious goodness! Me and my husband can split one and both be overly stuffed and satisfied. I have tried other tings on the menu and i was very disappointed. But that Loaded BBQ baked potato makes up for that lol!

Came down for PV homecoming to get a bomb loaded baked potato! Never tried anything else here, but based on the size and taste of the chopped beef loaded tater, it’s ALL GOOD

Contrary to what a lot of my fans may look for, enjoy and appreciate it’s not fun to have to write a one star review for me any more. If you look at most of my reviews in the last year, it’s just 5 star stuff. That’s because I don’t go to poorly reviewed places anymore, when actually checking the group score. I pick the best. I fucked up by stopping here this weekend for sure and enjoy the story.

Say’s «Best Pit Bar-​B-​Q in Texas»
There are a lot of words that come to mind. Bullshit is a good one. False, Lie, Smoke and Mirrors and other such descriptions come to mind.
When in Texas you will not find the so called and as they state «Best BBQ in Texas» on Hiway 290 a high traffic vein to and from Houston, nor will you find it in Houston. You have to go out to the legends. I’m not going to state any names but you will need to go to Driftwood, Texas out in Austin hill country or even out to Lexington, Brenham, Bryan etc. if near A&M.
The huge line made it look great and that is the problem. This bland café like unsmoked and unseasoned food is a disgrace to the term «BBQ» in Texas and it’s group mentality and the location and the 10,000 signs saying BBQ that make people think it’s special. So the parking lot is full and all of the other people passing through once in a lifetime think it is because of all of the other people that stopped because of all of the damned signs.
If you need a huge amount of signs, you’re TRYING to be found instead of DESERVING to be found.
I have wasted enough time. Here. Facts with photos;
1) Kitchen looks disgusting with finger prints all over this plastic shield between the lines of the meek, weary hungry and uninformed. Gross
2) Staff was very unfriendly due to the fact that there was a mob scene of a line on Labor Day when people were going to Houston to watch the Texas A&M Aggies kick the asses of whomever that team was from Arizona.
3) Green beans were disgusting and tasted like someone poured a can of them in a pot, heated them and didn’t even keep them hot. No flavors, no meats, no bacon, no care, no love. SUCKED!
4) Chicken was cold on the inside and dry.
5) Sausage was very spicy and good yet not sliced fully so had to use a plastic fork to try to break them apart to be able to eat. No one here knew where the sausage was from when asked. It was WAY too salty.
6) Brisket had no flavor and also had to use a fork to break it up. No smoke, no seasoning just boring meat.
7) Potato Salad was too sweet like they added sugar and we only took a few bites. To be honest we threw most of the plate away.
Drink selection sucks with nothing but a fountain of HFCS.
The worst thing about eating here is that it destroyed the entire day of my wife and I. We were only 1 hour from Cypress Texas and could have eaten at dozens of great place but were full because of this bland experience.
We could have eaten at so many better places and I would never stop here again if it were free.
Keep driving, good food is ahead. NOT IN THIS GAS STATION.
Oh and all the flies. The reason the locals from Prairie View (which must have no bbq at all) are all doing take out is due to how many flies are in this place. They were actually breeding on our table and I am most certainly filing a complaint with the Health Department.
DISGUSTING! So which County do I report this place to if it’s on the line? Maybe that’s how they get by with misrepresenting this fodder.
This place actually sucks while stating a lie of «Best BBQ in Texas». What a flat out lie.

No no no… not for me. OK where do I start? Well for starters the food was dry and tasteless. Not to mention it was WAY overpriced. The place was kinda busy, so we had to wait in line to order. Then you have to move over to the cashier. (Btw it’s really a gas station. Not like a restaurant at all.) there was not enough space to set our food so we could pay.
Ok finally we set to eat and the place is hot and tons of Flys were plaguing us :(So up setting. I give them 2 stars because the people were nice. But even that is a stretch. I’m not sure why there are so many good reviews for this place. I definitely won’t be back.

Food was good and servings were filling.
Never have quail or smoked turkey anymore, so I stopped going in.
Servers and cashiers are always rude, but I don’t care. Give me my food and I’ll move along.
Gas is expensive.
Update: Stopped in last night. out of quail, turkey, and Cole slaw … again. Servers were a little friendlier.

This loaded potato is one of the best things I’ve tasted since I’ve been in Texas! I love it! I only took one star off because of the bacon bits. Real bacon would make it so much better! But the potatoes are huge! I shared mines with 2 other people. The bbq on top is juicy and tasty and the sweet bbq is just the right amount of sweet and tangy. This stop is a must!

It’s a sin that I am from Texas and can actually say that I don’t like Bar-​b-​que, but I just don’t. My husband smokes meats, and makes a tender brisket that family and friends rave about. Not for me. I’ve eaten in award winning booths at the BBQ cookoff outside of Houston’s Livestock Show and Rodeo, still not a fan. Oh well, I had just decided it wasn’t for me.
Then my parents moved out to Waller, and we tried WCL. WOWZER! This is what I have been missing out on??? Amazing sausage, house made BBQ sauces, and loaded bake potatoes that make you stuff your face until you are miserable, but happy. The food is so good. Everything we have tried is awesome, and the service is good too. The location is unique as it is in a gas station, and the best bet is to take your food to go, but there are seating areas, so long as you don’t mind staring at a display of Doritos or motor oil.

My boyfriend and I each ordered the two plate meal. I got turkey + brisket + potato salad + coleslaw. He got sausage + brisket + beans + another side. We also shared a chocolate fudge dessert layered with Oreos and whipped cream.
Let me start with the good. The sausage was yummy! Not too oily and just the right amount of casing for that crunch you want in a good sausage. The dessert was decedent and a very large portion. The line moved quickly, and something can be said for being able to eat in a gas station. Very Diners, Drive-​Ins and Dives.
Unfortunately, although this place touts a 24-​hour pit smoking, fat dripping, experience, the brisket was not very good in my humble, BBQ-​lovin’ opinion. To be honest, our servings tasted and felt like they had been in the pressure cooker versus on a pit, and they did not taste smoked at all. The crispy outter edges from a grill were non-​existent on our pieces. My heart was broken about this brisket as that is the one thing I always get at a BBQ place.
My turkey was also the same as the brisket… it lacked flavor and was pretty blah. My coleslaw was watery. My potato salad was palatable. The BBQ was super sweet! My mouth enjoys more of a sour sauce with only a bit of sweet like Rudy’s or Saltlick, so I was not a fan.
I did not finish my plate, but I did take it home in hopes of eating it. It remains untouched.
Nevertheless, there seemed to be a endless stream of people coming in for this BBQ/​food, so maybe we just got bad plates? Not sure.
