Theres not a lot of places to est in Walker snd you cant go wrong with Piggy’s. Its a local place with friendly hosts who are the owners. I had Hawaiian pulled pork sandwich. I still found myself putting barbecue sauce on it. The meat was excellent. Lots of good beers too.

Walker is lucky to have such a great BBQ joint… I live in the Twin Cities, and I haven’t found anything this good. The pulled pork sandwiches are under $ 10, and the take-home packages are great if you are having guests or entertaining. Just be aware that you need to go early in the day, or call ahead in the morning if you are wanting to pick up a large order or will be having a large party dining. Some of the previous reviewers talked about the poor customer service, but they are under new ownership, and I think their staff is friendly and courteous, so I would consider going back if you had a previous bad experience… it is really a gem!

Excellent food and attentive friendly service. Had read previous reviews and was concerned about the customer service issues that others had experienced, but I had no problems when eating there tonight. Lovely inviting atmosphere.

Delicious food tonight at the Piggy. Had read reviews and was concerned about service, but the NEWOWNERS are kind, courteous, attentive and the BBQ ribs were simply amazing. The sides were very good as well(especially the cornbread). Prices were very reasonable and we were able to get a nice craft beer and home-brewed root beer for the boy. Wonderful!

FANTASTIC meal! We had 10 people dine at the bar who enjoyed ribs, brisket, and turkey caesar salad. Steve and Kathy(owners) are the BEST! Ribs were smokey and tender. Be sure to get the corn bread(with Tupelo honey). IMPORTANT: make reservations! Maybe even days before you drive north. Otherwise, you could miss out — -their meat sells out FAST… everyday. Steve and Kathy, thanks for your GREAT food! Be patient! The food is worth the wait. If you are in a hurry, don’t go. If you have the time, you’ll enjoy great smoked meat.

The best barbecue I’ve had in Minnesota. If you can get them, try the burnt ends. The brisket, pulled pork, beans, and corn bread are also excellent. We were given complimentary kettle chips and a stack of quarters for each kid(for the small game room) upon arrival. Reservations are a must. Dozens of people were turned away before noon on a Wednesday because they didn’t have one.

Outstanding pulled pork and ribs!!! Husband and wife team was great… and busy. Couldn’t believe how tender and delicious the pulled pork is. You need a reservation in order to be sure you can get the pulled pork sandwiches. They serve from 11:00 until it’s gone and it goes fast. You cannot go wrong here.

I have a feeling that the owners may be writing the negative reviews in an effort to tame the amount of traffic this place gets. We arrived in town Saturday afternoon and stopped in without a reservation. The owner greeted us outside, explained that reservations are needed b/c they only cook so much meat per day and he was sold out for the day. Totally understand, no worries — we will make reservations and try again later in the week. He mentioned he was working on a private order, had some things cooking and proceeded to invite us in and he could cook something up for us — what a jerk! We went in, ordered drinks and meals that were served quickly and politely. They also had the audacity to give our children quarters to play the video games in the front room. The food… Don’t even get me started on the delicious bbq that Jesus himself must have come down from heaven to bless. Brisket… Good. Ribs… Good. Pulled pork… Good. To sum it up, do yourself a favor — make reservations and check this place out if you are in the mood for bbq while visiting Leech Lake, driving through Walker or just happen to be any where near Minnesota.

Terrible customer service. Servers as a-holes and no idea if they can handle running a business. Different story from everyone there. I was told«people just know we can’t do to-go for lunch» when they are only open for lunch. Not worth the attitude when I’m trying to enjoy a nice family vacation.

Went in to check it out and grab a take out menu really fast and the person behind the bar was a complete jerk! So much for Minnesota nice… maybe you should go back to Kansas!

Good maybe good(& it is) but the owners are complete JERKS! Never been treated with such disrespect. I am sure they will stay in business because the foods good, but it wouldn’t hurt my feelings in the least the if the next time we came up to Walker it was closed permanently. Seems like bad service is kind of a trend.

We had heard great things of the piggy restaurant and were anxious to try it. We tried to park in their very small off-street lot and were honked at by an employee who is(i guess) entitled to the whole parking lot. She then yelled at us from the back of the restaurant about where to sit. She then snapped at another customer who had taken a menu off of a table that was not being used. I can say this. the food smelled great. When my wife and i got a whiff of the customer service, we lost our appetite quickly and left for friendlier booths. I have yet to find great food that is worth suffering through lousy customer service, and I doubt this would be it.

This place has the most cozy atmosphere! When you combine that with the amazing food they prepare, you can tell that much more than ingredients went into your visit. Everything from the craft beer selection to the tasteful decorations make this location a NECESSITY when in the area, OR even if driving through! Be sure to call ahead as seating is limited, but worth it!

My wife and I are visiting her parents in nearby Steamboat Lake and as a native of North Carolina I was shocked to hear that there was a local BBQ joint around the area. At first glance, the place is very inviting from the outside and as you walk in you immediately feel like you’re in a cozy log home. The husband and wife who own it are even more inviting and kind. Most importantly, the food is DELICIOUS! Make sure you order a refreshing draft root beer in a frosted mug! The Carolina pulled pork sandwich gives North Carolina bbq a run for its money. We also had the brisket, baked beans and cornbread– perfection! Thanks for a great experience. When you’re in Walker, MN, don’t skip THEPIGGY!

3 of us stopped in for a Saturday lunch. I had the pulled pork sandwich, another one of us had the rib tips an the third had the 3(it was 4!!) rib plate. The food was absolutely top notch. Pulled pork was tender and smokey. The rib tips were awesome and the 3 rib came with an extra 4th! Corn bread had full pieces of corn in it, great flavor and moist. Coleslaw was as good as it gets. Bottom line, next time I am in Walker I will be stopping in for BBQ. Other reviews of the waitstaff seem harsh. We were warmly greeted and sat quickly. Waitress had a smile and a good sense of humor!

Great food great place but the owner’s wife should work as a Maytag Repairman — where she doesn’t have to come in contact with humans, she doesn’t know how to smile, greet or be civil. Be warned. .. . the food is good but avoid the grey haired ogre!

The most delicious smoked pulled pork, cold smoked turkey and brisket! Yes there is southern flavor hiding out in ‘Norsota’. Do yourself a favor, make a reservation and get ready for some tender, flavorful smoked goodness!

The good: great food, local owners smoking it like they should, cute, nice bathrooms, outdoor seating. The bad: busy and only the owners working sometimes(don’t order the grilled cheese if you want to eat within an hour of ordering and they have more than one other customer in house — we didn’t find that out until AFTER a 40 minute wait that made us late for a wedding rehearsal), can’t rely on their hours as they«close when sold out»

OINK indeed! We were major piggys at The Piggy in Walker, MN! We got up late on a Sunday morning and wanted some brunch, but by noon, there was no place that we found serving, so we roamed up and down the streets looking for something and stumbled about this cute little log cabin with the cutest piggy sign on the front and thought«hmm, if we can’t do brunch, barbeque kind of sounds good!» And good it was indeed! You go in and order and all of their menu has been fresh smoked that day so they put your meal together sans the wonderful barbeque sauce, but they give you a good cup full of the sauce and then they put one of their bottles(which they actually sell as well) on the table and you can drown your pork or brisket or other meat in the stuff. Its seriously amazing sauce and I’ve had sauce around the country. Who knew Minneosta would be such a contender! They also have some good root beer on tap and the cole slaw ranks pretty high with me. We ended up enjoying our meal outside — there are some tables by the side of the building and if you roam there with your pooch, they’ll give him a big bowl of water. The inside is cute and clean and new as well. Take a wander down the main street and then take a break and be a Piggy at The Piggy!
