Benson’s Eating & Drinking Emporium

Good pizza. Not a very clean place. Do not recommend for families, but probably a great time if hanging out and drinking with friends.

Happened to be in town during the eelpout festival for a KOTC show at the Northern Lights Casino.
After we finished up working, my girlfriend, her family, and I went down to Benson’s to get a pizza. It was a little late on a Saturday, probably around midnight. We arrived just in time to find out the kitchen had just been closed. Our server was not very friendly or helpful, contrary to the other Minnesotans I met on this trip. She basically just told us they weren’t cooking anything else and then forgot to ever return with our drinks. After a frustrating few minutes of indecision and waiting on our drinks to arrive we began to leave. That’s when I noticed they had 2 whole pizzas for sale «by the slice» in a small oven by the kitchen. I felt like our server could have mentioned that… None the less we bought all the slices.
The pizza was mediocre at best. It quite honestly could have been frozen pizza cooked in a conveyor oven.
The best part of our whole visit to Benson’s was receiving free drinks as a result of 2 different servers forgetting to return with (or even place) our orders. If I ever go back to Walker, MN I probably won’t be back to Benson’s.

Stay away from the «deep dish» pizza or at least make sure that it’s what you want. They just take standard pizza dough, roll it over 2 – 3 times to make it thicker at the edge and then cook it in a deep dish pan. The dough stays chewy and is still very thin in the middle. Service wasn’t great, but it was a busy Saturday afternoon so I’ll give them a pass for that.

Very good, from scratch. Would come back again. Had a pizza burger with a side of coleslaw

Excellent pizza & family friendly ambience — not 5 stars because slow service on Sat afternoon /​but packed! Kid friendly! Staff friendly too — will return! HUGE food selection with creative locations as the food names.

Came based on the positive reviews as well as the local suggestions. I agree the pizza was fantastic. I disagree that the service is slow! We were greeted right away when we chose our seat. Very friendly service who guided us to the perfect choice (10″ Minnesota Island with stuffed crust). Perfect for 2 adults!
Waited about 15 minutes. Not bad. $ 34.23 for 4 beers and great pizza seemed reasonable to us. Would definitely return if I lived here.

Slow service, but great pizza! If you aren’t in a hurry then this is the place to hang out in Walker.

Ok so I have been coming here for the last 4 years when I’m in the area for work and have never had a bad experience. Also who cares if the pizza is cut into squares. We got a stuffed crust pizza and 3 of us ate half of it maybe service was quick and on point.

The pizza is great! Why do people care if it’s cut in squares? Pizza is always great no matter what shape it’s cut into… idiots. Service is slow so don’t expect much.

Their chili is awesome! Has a more unique sweet taste than most! It is always fun to go here any time of the day! The service is hit or miss however, so make sure you have time to spare.

The spinach dip was the worst I’ve ever had [the 3 people I’m with agree] …just terrible. The servers could not care less about their customers… as another said… lots milling around not doing much, yet super slow at getting our menus drinks, etc. In fact it was 10 minutes after we sat down that the first person acknowledged us. Pizza was good. Nothing special, but good. The buffalo chicken on the za is gross though.

My girlfriend and I came here for lunch. There were a lot of servers milling around but the service was terrible. The pizza that we ordered was a «deep dish» and looked like a thick crust from Pizza Hut. Did not resemble the menu photo at all. The pizza was kind of soggy and not very tasty. Overall I’d say I’m not likely to come back.

I read reviews about this place and the pizza and wow was it good. Let me explain why the ingredients are fresh and look like they just cut them up and it was a good size for me and my wife! I have only been there once but I suggest you get the pizza as it seems like everyone goes there just for that! You won’t regret it but here is a few tips. Go and sit at the bar as I hear the service is slow at the tables. The bartender we had was fast nice and took care of us as and gave us great recommendations!

Favorite place to eat in Walker. Yes the service can be slow, but the pizza is worth the wait

We stopped for a late dinner and ordered pizza (per Unilocal recommendations). We hand a traditional pepperoni/sausage…it was good. We also ordered the chicken ranch… unusual and delicious. The service was friendly.

Service is awesome and friendly!
I order burgers the Chick gets pizza — we’ve always been amazed that no matter if a weeknight or weekend the food is great.
There’s always enough for lunch the next day and with great beers on tap you can’t go wrong.
Atmosphere is small town.
So sit close to the bar and ask the person next to you the last time they saw the ice go out on Leech in May :)

Best pizza in the lake area.

Mind-​blowingly good pizza. I was very impressed. I could not believe I would have the best tasting pizza of my life in rural Minnesota after living 2 years in Chicago. I’ve tried a bunch of different pizzas in my life, but this was the hardest to stop eating (and I didn’t until it was all gone!) Their hand tossed crust is exemplary and the pizza to sauce to topping ratio couldn’t be perfected more. Plus they had some good beer on tap (a local Scotch Ale).
Can’t wait till the next time we visit Mom and Dad so we can go to Benson’s again!
p. s. We got good service too and they have a super cool table.

For casual grub with a menu consisting of a very wide variety, Benson’s is a great choice. I experienced good service, clean facilities and truly enjoyed myself. Although everyone else at the table ordered pizza or a salad/​pizza combo, I had to try the pretzel-​wrapped hot dog and sweet potato waffle fries. All of the above were great; a ¼ lb beef hotdog baked in a pretzel-​like dough was delicious with honey mustard!
The only thing I didn’t like about the menu was the fact that yes, although they have a lot of choices for pizzas, they made it very clear on the menu that you cannot substitute or eliminate toppings from any pizza on the menu. Substituting I understand, but not being allowed to eliminate a topping? Inconvenient.
Overall, a great visit. I would probably return again if in Walker!
