A landmark in the upstate of SC. Fried Chicken is always a must here.

Probably the tastiest cafeteria restaurant in upstate. The owners are Lebanese, which just barely influences the classic Southern cuisine — the veggies are a little more flavorful than usual, the chicken a slightly different style. Plus, the space is clean, pleasant-looking, and efficiently run. For Clemsonites, it’s definitely worth the half-hour drive — you won’t find a better interpretation of this style anywhere nearby.

Excellent chicken. Best is SC. Cafeteria style, not fancy. Not cheap either. No steak — the name is left over from the previous owner years ago. «If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.» This really does have the best chicken I have ever eaten, and I am a fan of fried chicken.

The food here is great, but the wait can get long. Otherwise the restaurant is one if the best in the area.

It’s very simple: The Steak House does NOT serve steak, and the fried chicken is THE reason to go there. Period. If you are looking for great cabbage or wonderful potatoes, you might be disappointed. It is the FRIEDCHICKEN that is the best in the world, served right here at the Steak House Cafeteria. And not the tenderloins… the breasts. Any questions? Good…now enjoy!

We arrived right at opening time, 11:00 a.m. and found the fried chicken breast and the chicken fingers to be generous in size and very good to eat. The mac & cheese was also hot; however, the steamed cabbage and the green beans were only slightly above room temperature — and probably last night’s leftovers. Hot leftovers are fine, but at that temperature they probably weren’t even legal.

I stopped in for lunch when I was in the area on business. Definitely a good place for southern style food — not the typical«corporate chain» cafeteria. I found the place to be quaint and sort of old-fashioned — sort of representative of the old south. I went for my typical southern comfort favs — fried chicken, mac & cheese and greenbeans and thought everything was good. I would certainly eat here again if I find myself back in the area.

Great local place. Although the name mentions steakhouse, it is know it’s famous fried chicken and freshly made coconut cream pies made daily.

Everyone in Oconee County chuckles when someone walks into the Steak House expecting Steak and then walks out frustrated :-) I’ve seen it happen too many times and that is a shame… They don’t serve steak, but the do have the best chicken you’ve ever tasted(note to russell… get there early as the chicken is dry towards the end of the day)! The Steak House is my all-time favorite for good ol southern cooking. My wife and I live in Dallas and come home to see family and eat chicken! Yes the place is always packed and that should serve as the best review possible! If you’re in the area this is a must stop restaurant! Come expecting southern food served cafeteria style and you will not leave disappointed. Here is my suggestion Arabian Fried Rooster Mac&Cheese Green Beans Sweet Tea Snickers Pie

Awful, expensive mush. Steak house doesn’t serve steak. We go in, the chicken was over cooked and dry. The green beans were mush. The mac n cheese was flavorless. Worst of all when we rung up, it was $ 11.50 a person for awful food. At least the store bought deserts were edible. It is sad that this place was busy.

First of all I would like to say I hate cafeterias, but, I have gone to this meat &3 twice. The first time the chicken was very good, not over cooked like other places and the veggies were OK. A few months later my friends talked me into going again. This time was the exact opposite of the first so I doubt I will give the old third try, but, it is almost always packed. Five stars for being a good cafeteria and two stars for not having constantly good food.

By the name of the restaurant you would thing you can get a great steak. Well first of all its a great country restaurant. They offer the freshest fried chicken, fried cat fish, awesome meatloaf, flounder and the finest and freshest vegetable’s. The mac and cheese is so great we crave it. The cheese is dripping of the noodles. For the finish they offer the best strawberry short cake this side of the Carolina’s. This meal is worth a splurge of carb overload. The best part of this is the price two can eat for $ 12.00 to $ 15.00 dollars. Loves it… And buy the way they don’t sell steak. So when going threw Walhalla SC Check out the Walhalla Steak House :)
