Joanne’s Sweet Shop & Cafe

What a great place to have in sleepy Walhalla! Everything about this shop is generous, from their portions to their hours (til 8 pm, far later than any of the surrounding restaurants) to their menu (they’ll fix you anything they can, basically). Their ice cream comes from Ice Cream Club, one of my favorite suppliers, and they keep a rotating cycle of their creative flavors. Note that a «single» is really up to four generous scoops packed into a cone. Even a kids’ size is larger than some smalls, and at just $ 1.50 it’s probably the best scoop shop deal in the area.
As an added bonus, on a recent visit they were selling tomatoes fresh from their garden for $ 2 a pound. We got a few in the hopes that wholesomeness might counteract all that ice cream.
I’ll definitely stop by again next time I visit Walhalla (which will probably for the cafeteria right next door).

If you liked Happy Days and Elvis this is a fun place to see. Although we did not eat here we did have delicious milk shakes.
