Our group of 9(2 kids 3 teens 4 adults) had an amazing time kayaking! Service at the Kayak Shack was on point. Tasha was great and managed our large group perfectly. $ 20/hr for a single $ 30/hr for a double with a daily rental fee of $ 80 for a single and $ 120 for a double.

We had a fantastic trip with the Kayak Shack crew this afternoon. The basic route is a real bargain at $ 45 per person for an afternoon. To begin, you paddle out to Alsea Bay, to check out the numerous harbor seals at play. Then, you turn back toward shore and paddle up to Lindt Slough for a relaxing tour through bird country. Osprey and Great Blue Heron are common sights along this, mostly flat, stretch. The return trip from the Slough can be a bit windy, but still is quite do-able for people in decent physical shape. The Kayaks are your basic, sit-on-top variety… so I recommend a big hat, and covered feet. You will get wet, so no cotton, but you’ll also be very exposed to the elements, hence the cover-up. Your tour guides, as David F. notes, are HS kids, which does make for very honest and candid commentary about the scenery. Also, it makes you feel very good about where the money’s going. Great find in the Waldport area!

This venture is run by high school students as part of an entrepreneurial class. The young man who helped us was a good source of local information from a «get real» teen’s perspective. We rented a 3 person kayak for a few hours and had a blast tooling around Alsea bay. We missed the turn off for Lint creek because we were distracted by 100 harbor seals splashing en masse into the water from the low tide sand bar where they were lallygagging. Teenage boys have nothing on male seals who can out belch any other mammal any day.
