While in Rhode Island I was able to hit a sizeable amount of breweries in and around Providence/Newport. This one was hands down my favorite to visit! Located within an old 19th century mill, this place has a really cool vibe. The outside looks small but once inside the place opens up and there were plenty of booths, tables, some corn hole to play, and even a pool table! The bartenders were super friendly considering I was there visiting during the Patriots vs. Jets game and I was quietly rooting for the Jets(we won!). Seriously though, very nice people who were knowledgeable in what they were serving and helpful in giving tips on the other things to see in the area. Being that RI doesn’t serve pints(learned that the hard way after asking several different places) they do have flights which 6 come in a flight. The flights only hold 3 at a time, so make sure you go up for your second round! We ended up getting a growler of their Porter which was fantastic! Cool place, cool vibes, cool people. I recommend stopping in if you’re in the area.

This is the best stop for beers around! They give you each six samples about 1⁄3 the way so 2 beers. The groupon is for 4 and it includes two small growlers all for under $ 30. Great deal! Staff is always friendly and appreciates having you there. A must stop to avoid beach traffic on the way home.

I can’t explain how happy I am to see the uprising of microbreweries throughout Rhode Island. With that being said, it makes me even more elated when I go to one that seems like it will have a bright future ahead of it. Whalers is absolutely an up and coming brewery in this lovely state. I found a nice tasting deal off of Living Social and tried this place place out after hearing a lot of positive reviews via friends and local media. I have to agree with everything I’ve heard, the beers here are delicious. I was able to taste five of their beers, the highlights were the hazelnut cream stout, golden ale, and the strawberry blonde. They are very flavorful and of high quality. Whalers is a great addition to the upcoming Rhode Island beer scene and from my experience I believe we should see an expansion in the near future!
