I had been to Laurie’s 9:09 once prior to my experience last night, but only for drinks. When I was there, the food looked great, and people seemed to be enjoying it, so last night when my husband suggested we go out to eat, I figured we could give it a try. I called first to see if they had any availability being that it was a prime dinner hour on a Saturday night and I was able to get a reservation for an hour later. The person who I spoke to(Bob) was very friendly and talkative, and I was appreciative that he was so accommodating. An hour later, my husband and I arrive and we’re promptly seated at our reserved table. Almost as soon as we open our menus, we are greeted by Bob. While I certainly appreciate management that makes an effort to know their customers, and make them feel welcome, this was a bit over the top. Bob insisted that we get a «tour» of the restaurant. Not only is the restaurant extremely small therefore making a tour unnecessary, but it was very crowded and tough to navigate through. When we finally got back to our table, we were being moved to another table so we wouldn’t have to be squeezed in near the kitchen entrance, which was thoughtful. However, by the time we got settled into our seats, were given water, and we re-opened our menus, 15 minutes had already passed. The service unfortunately didn’t get any better, and while the waitstaff are very nice, service is just too slow. Onto the food… We ordered mussels to start, which were okay. Tasty enough, but nothing to rave about. I then ordered the shrimp scampi. It again was just okay. The sauce wasn’t very flavorful and it was a bit bland, but I put enough cheese on it to eat it. My husband ordered the rib eye cooked medium. First, the plate came out with no Gorgonzola cheese, mushrooms, or shallots on the rib eye as the description reads. Second, it was practically raw, and my husband could only eat a small section. Now here is where you’re probably asking why we didn’t have it fixed. Well, we had already waited so long for our food, we didn’t want to have to send it back and continue to wait, and my husband is the type of person who never complains because he doesn’t like to make a «fuss». Since it was his dish, I didn’t say anything to the waitress When we were through, the waitress took the plate away but promptly came out of the kitchen to ask about the steak. She clearly saw that it was pretty much raw and that he hadn’t eaten much of it. Their solution to the problem was to offer us dessert on the house. We declined because we simply weren’t in the mood for anything sweet at that time. They apologized and went back to the kitchen, only to come out with dessert in a to-go container, on them. While I appreciate their effort, a better restaurant would have taken the steak off the bill, or at least discounted it. A $ 5 slice of cake doesn’t make up for a $ 30 rib eye or the fact that my husband stopped at Taco Bell on the way home because he was still so hungry. Had they done the right thing to rectify this situation, I might have given them another chance in the future, maybe on a night that is less busy. But this sealed the deal for me, and I won’t be going back to Laurie’s 9:09. Last bits: the music makes it a bit too loud in the restaurant because it’s quite small, but the sangria was very good.

Went to Laurie’s 909 recently and had a great time! The wine serving was huge and tasty, the bagel chips and homemade dip were delish, and the live music by THEZACKLYSBAND was classic rock/blues heaven(Stevie Ray Vaughn for cryin out loud!) Will be back many more times!

Finally got to try Laurie’s after reading lots of great things about it. I’m a fan. It’s a small place, but the atmosphere is casual and comfy. The service is relaxed, you don’t feel rushed at all. I got the lost noodle lasagna, it was fantastic! I am a fan and can’t wait to get it again.

Living in Wakefield for some time, I have seen this establishment and never went in. It was always loud and seemed like everyone was having a great time. One night, my aunt decides to take us there for a dinner because she was in the area and had been there a few times. Let me say that my aunt has a nasty knack for going to over-priced and lackluster restaurants, and telling us that they are great. Well, here was my take on Laurie’s 9:09: Service seemed good for the most part. When we entered the restaurant it was on a Friday at the busiest time of the week. We got seats right away, no waiting. They were really busy and did their best to make it an enjoyable experience. We got water, we got bread. My mom and aunt ordered cocktails, and my mom got hers in a reasonable time. There was some issue with my aunt’s drink and it took a little longer, but no biggie. The one thing I couldn’t get over was the prices. Maybe its just me, but I felt that the prices were higher than most in the area, and that may be because Laurie’s is small and they have a lot of competition in the area. The atmosphere was loud. It was like playoff-time loud. I could barely hear my family talking, but again, that could be because it was on a Friday. The space in the restaurant was a little cramped, but manageable, and there was a lot of nice lighting mostly with Christmas lights, which is a plus for me. Then we come to the food. I have to say for the price that was paid for the meal, we thought the dishes were average at best. Nothing really stood out and the pasta for the dishes was rather dry. I’m not sure what else to say about that except that I wasn’t really impressed to the point that I would be back for a meal, other than to impress someone with the amount of money that I can spend. I might check the bar out another time, but we’ll see. My overall sense was that it was not a bad place, but nothing to really put it over the top for me. Some people had better experiences than me, and some worse. Try it out for yourself and see what you think. :)

I had my wedding rehearsal luncheon at Laurie’s and it was just fabulous. The owners Laurie and Bob are just as nice as can be and the food is great. Have our rehearsal at lunch time meant we were able to use the whole restaurant which was really nice for our guests to have the space to ourselves. We went with a build your own burger bar, mac & cheese, and caesar salad. They were able to accommodate a couple of guests with food allergies without a trouble and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Unbeknownst to my husband and I, some of his family had arranged a family dinner for the night before the wedding at Laurie’s as well. They had an equal size group as ours, just over 30, but instead at dinner time while the restaurant was open. Laurie’s handled that group just as well even if was necessarily in a tighter space. I really enjoy the atmosphere and friendliness of the Laurie’s staff and will definitely be there for many casual dinners in the future!

We have been here a few times, and it is really hit or miss. More of a miss. Ordered a Watermelon ccoktail a year ago and it was served with crushed ice, which watered it down a lot. But that night we ordered some wings and they were amazing! Last week hubby and I had tried to stop in for a midweek dinner. First we werent greeted at door for a good 5 minutes. When seated by the waitress, it took her 5 min to just bring us menus and water. WE went on to wait another 10 minutes for the waitress to come back to get our order… she never did and so we left. It’s unfortunate bc we love to support local businesses and love the convenience. But it will probably be a long time before we try this place again, if ever.

Positives: GENEROUS wine pours, all around delicious meals each time. Excellent lobster ravs, 3 in a half portion and 6 for the entrée portion. A shoutout to the great spicy coleslaw, plentiful lobster portions, sinfully delicious chocolate cake. Negatives: waitstaff is a little rough around the edges, kind but brisk. Unfortunately our table for 5 was seated near the kitchen and next to the dish cabinet(which is the dining area) so in the constant clatter of dishes got old fast. If you are looking for a casual night out with a heavy handed glass of red and delicious food for a reasonable price this gem is for you. If you are looking for intimate conversation and more atmosphere skip it.

Nice comments there Bob. You can add liar to your resume. I wouldn’t have sat in a seat if it said reserved. My wife and I were informed when I attempted to order a drink. Like I said thank your policies and your regular/friend for screwing you by not showing up. The threat of coming to my home further validates your incompetency of running a restaurant and inability to deliver quality service. Based on the lack of recent positive responses I expect the countdown clock has begun on how long you will be around. Interesting that you make no comment about the issues with my wife’s food. Your hostess also said she did not agree with reserving seats at the bar and that other customers have complained. The bar area is a place for people to wait for a table or enjoy their meal if seats are available. I the end the server offered us a $ 10 coupon for our next visit. Out of respect I didn’t laugh in his face. You sir should find another line of business.

This is the second time we dined at Laurie’s…and the last. They might be the nicest people, but the food is just disgusting. I order the scallops and bacon, and I really wish I took a picture of it because what arrived was 4 undercooked soggy pieces of bacon sitting in their own grease with four tiny scallops plopped on top. I also got the clam chowder which looked like it sat in the bowl for hours. A crust had formed on top and the oyster crackers they decided to throw in it themselves were totally soggy. My spouse’s order was equally revolting. The tomato sauce on her flatbread tasted rancid, and it was more like a cracker than a flatbread. I just wanted to get out of there as soon as the first plate of food arrived.

As a millennial, I’m not accustomed to genuinely friendly hosts at restaurants. That is precisely what my wife and I found at Laurie’s on a busy Friday night. What a character! Wonderful staff(the guy in the band stopped us on our way out and asked us to stay!) and great food. The wings are killer, and the seafood is tasty and simple. Great beer selection to boot. Can’t beat the location: it’s right at the Wakefield train station. One of the best spots in the area. I hope they stick around.

We went there on a snowy night, we made last minute reservations. We had wanted to try this restaurant since it opened. We were not disappointed the food was excellent but. The ambiance and Beatles tribute band«GLASSONION put it over the top. Bob the owner made our acquaintance and we soon were made to feel like regulars. He checked back often to make sure we were having a wonderful night. We departed with many laughs and a hug. Our waitress was wonderful and very attentive. Left vowing to return and were very pleasantly surprised!

Laurie’s 9:09 is a five star experience says Unilocal. But I disagree… There’s not too much to say about this place except take the worst thing off the menu and sell the best thing twice as hard. The«Mistro» seafood soup = yum! Flat bread pizza = meh. Focus on what you are good at! The menu is a hodgepodge. I’m serious. Never has a restaurant experience been so give and take. «Ohhh, this is good.» «I can’t get enough!!!’ «Ohhh(cringe face) here, you have this.» Don’t order anything with pumpkin and alcohol. Tastes like a candy-coated Autumn turned into Winter street garbage. Everyone was really likable and no complaints about service except they were a bit understaffed for a Friday. Everything took a really long time. Just wish they would kick it up a notch to turn this«neighborhood» joint into something worth venturing out of my neighborhood for. In conclusion; this place is likable if you like the The Beatles, heavy cream, Home Goods décor and dining in what looks like a store front for a former sewing machine repair shop.

Laurie’s 909 does not disappoint again. I popped in last night for a late dinner and had a great time. They had a live band called«Bucket of Blues» which created a great atmosphere without being too loud or overpowering. It was really enjoyable sitting at the bar, watching TV, eating good food and listening to great live music. The ultimate triple threat you might say. This time around I had the Fish Tacos which were great! They come on this rack gizmo which makes them easy to handle. I also then had an order of wings. Half Spicy Thai and Half Bar B Q. I know I like the wings here but these wings were more amazing than usual. They were really big with lots of meat and juicy. I also really like the funky plates they serve them in. So big points all around for food, atmosphere and especially food presentation.

I had been really excited to try Laurie’s 909 for a while — a new(non-Italian, as other Unilocalers have mentioned) restaurant in Wakefield was exciting. Sadly I was disappointed. When I got there, I stood inside the door for a few minutes before anyone greeted me. The restaurant was freezing! We asked them to turn down the AC but we never noticed a difference. I got the sangria and it was filled with crushed ice, meaning it melted very quickly and my drink was watery. All of our meals were brought out separately. My food(lobster ravioli) came out last and it was cold. I could only eat half of it. Nobody on staff asked me how my food was, so I didn’t speak up. I don’t mind paying $ 30 per person for a good dinner — that was not the case here and I was very disappointed. Two stars because my husband and mom liked the taste of their food, even though they agreed that their meals were not hot enough either. They got steak tips and fried haddock. I would love to give it another chance, but I’d probably just get a beer and an appetizer in the bar next time.

My friend and I decided to give it a shot last night. They had a Paint Nite event going on, which took up a large portion of the bar area. We were seated at the only high-top in the bar area; the dining room looked full but it was tough to get a real look in there, as it’s totally separate. The setup of the bar side is a little odd — a bar on either side of the space. When we arrived, the main bar was full of customers, but the other was empty. The wine pours were incredibly generous, making the wine an excellent value. I had the flank steak special, and my friend had the chicken dish. Both were very good. The ‘house vegetables’ were a slightly overcooked unrecognizeable mélange, but edible. I think I’d opt for a different side in the future. We had a very pleasant evening. The host came over to chat, which was nice, but the conversation went just a bit too long. It was clear that many of the other patrons were regulars. It was somewhat noisy, especially with the paint night instructor speaking through some sort of amplifier, but not so much that we weren’t able to converse. I will definitely be back, but will make a reservation so I don’t need to sit on the bar side.

Been a few weeks since my last stop here. What is very good is now even better, along with some changes. Having gone through several bartenders, seems they found a new crew that are real pros. Not only are the drinks prepared better, but they kicked up the pour while only raising the price of the Martini’s a buck. As a well traveled exec. There is nothing worse than ending the long work day to a measly little glass of an excuse called a perfect martini. It’s worth the buck to get something that just says«welcome». Other improvements include some new appetizers and unique specials. For those that relish great food and drink with the owners always present making sure everything is top notch… «Stay away»! I want a seat when I walk in… Which is difficult with regulars from locals to towns nearby!
