We decided to go to Captain Jack’s for some good seafood. This was not the outcome. We ordered chowder and clam cakes to start which was just okay. My husband ordered fish and chips and I had the beet mozzarella salad and fried calamari. The fish was mediocre and the fries were tasteless. The beets in my salad were not cooked and there was hardly any dressing. The squid were very soggy and oily. Neither one of us ate very much of our dinners and declined taking it home. On our way out we decided to take a dessert to go. One piece of cake and a piece of cheesecake cost us $ 16.20! Seems expensive for takeout. Unfortunately, we won’t be revisiting!

Went for lunch today. Hubby had fish & chips. Always delicious and such a big serving — 2 large pieces of fresh haddock and the best crispy seasoned fries! We try many seafood restaurants and no one has fish & chips like Cap’n Jacks, I had my usual — a Rueben — so good. Waitress was so sweet brought extra pickles. It was delicious! Brought ½ home. Bowl of clear chowder was so good on this cool day. Wonderful lunch. Love sitting in the pub — view is beautiful — even on a cool, cloudy afternoon.

AVOIDTHISPLACEATALLCOST. I don’t care if you’re starving as my wife and I were were when we came for the Matunuck Oyster Bar and it was too packed with a long wait, either go somewhere else far far away or just kill yourself on the spot, but do not eat here. I did not see the kitchen, but I can guarantee that there are three things and only three things in there: a freezer, a microwave, and a big trash can for all the food that comes back.

Ordered chowder and clam cakes! Became sad with my first taste of the chowder! Why would you serve spoiled chowder? We are right on the ocean ! I will never be back here in fear of food poisoning!

This place was great! Service was very fast and courteous, and the food was very tasty! The calamari was cooked well and I did miss the spice but the black olives were a surprisingly good addition. The lobster bisque was creamy with lots of lobster and very big portions. The clam cakes were crispy with good flavor and not greasy and tasteless as they can be in other places. The lobster roll was cold which I didn’t like as much, but it was not drenched in mayonnaise and had great chunks of very good lobster. The fish and chips were huge and nice and crispy, the New England boil was delicious! Nice wine selection too!

Very disappointing today. Service was poor from the get go, and when my fish n chips was soggy and undercooked the response was a literal shoulder shrug and«sorry about that» with no attempt at compensation. We will not be back — would rather spend the time waiting across the street at Matunuck Oyster Bar.

My boyfriend and I were thoroughly unimpressed with eating here. The two biggest complaints were that our waiter was miserable, not knowledgable about the menu, and not very attentive(the couple behind us wasn’t addressed for almost 20 minutes and had to ask for a server!) and the food was extremely sub par. We ordered calamari which was bland, shrimp scampi which was way too loaded with wine, and shrimp Alfredo which tasted like boxed Alfredo sauce. Portions were also quite small for entrees that were $ 16 – 18. The only good thing we ate here was the clam chowder. We sat outside and the view was lovely, but that was about it for positive reviews. Many more seafood restaurants that outrank this one in the Ocean State.

If you can’t get into the oyster place across the street, keep on driving! This place put the suck in Succotash!

Service was horrible! The kitchen does not care about customers. Everything we ask for was a flat out know, even offered to pay more. Had to ask the waiter for everything twice, left dirty plates in front of us. White chowder was just gross!

Worst customer service, food just ok. Would never return. Waited on one hamburger for 40 min, after multiple inquiries it only came out when I insisted manager go back to check kitchen, then it magically appeared within minutes. Meanwhile the rest of our seafood had been ready and was now cold. Staff not at all apologetic. We feel manager should’ve offered a substitution or money off our bill but this idea seemed foreign to them. Granted hamburger not the best thing to order here but went for team dinner after tournament & not all kids like seafood. If it’s on the takeout menu it should be something easily doable. Will never come back. The food is not worth the wait or the rudeness. If i could give zero stars I would.

No more kids section, now a nice pub complete with raw bar. Menu has changed also, no more peel and eat :-/but we still dine here, now order the seafood tower.

Thanks for being so unacommodating and curt. My friends were here on the porch and invited me along after I was finished with something. Mind you when I arrived the indoor section, dead as a doornail. I ask a server if i may pull up a chair seeing as there were plenty. She said sure i dont see why not and was interrupted by a woman who said no i cant i have a wait. To this I asked if i could just pull up a chair since there were so many. I was told flat out no with no alternative, basically she didnt care. I was willing to spend money in your establishment and felt genuinely unwelcomed. Btw this was my first time here and last.

Great oysters! Mussels and lobster bacon mac n’cheese were perfectly portioned. Service was a little bit slower but not unexpected knowing it was Memorial Day Weekend and you’re on the RI shoreline. Relax, slow down, and enjoy this nice place.

Very slow service, no silverware given, appetizers came out with the entrée, clam chowder was very watery. The goat cheese for the spinach salad came out after i finished eating it, very poor experience. It’s safe to say we will not be back

This is a great restaurant! My friend raved that this place has the best clam cakes ever! They were absolutely delicious and you can certainly see the pieces of clams inside. There are cooked perfectly! Also, we ordered the lobster roll which I thought was delicious and it was not drenched in mayo, which is good! My friend thought the portion size was a little small but to me it made it easy to eat! We also got the fish tacos and they were delicious! This place also does 2 entrees and a bottle of wine for $ 39 which is a great deal! Only negative was that they weren’t able to make me a cappuccino as they ran out, but I easily had a coffee instead. Service was good and a view by the water is great too! I’ll certainly be coming back!

I am never ever ever going back to this place again! My husband hated his fried shrimp! They simply had no taste, they were chewy, and left a bad taste in his mouth. I told him to send them back but he just left them there. I had the fried seafood feast… It was no feast. I’ve had better in Philly! It was a pile of bland fried frozen Mrs. Paul’s! We wasted a lot of money that night

Stopped in after a long day on the water. It was my first time here and being a «beach restaurant» I had low expectations. I was however pleasantly surprised! The wait staff was very attentive. Our waiter Josh was great. I had the pub burger which I ordered well done and it was still juicy. Not dry at all. We also had an order of fish & chips which were light & fluffy, cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was a bit loud, but we were here at the peak time of day. Great location and parking was easier than any of the nearby resturants. I will definitely come back when I am in East Matunick again.

My son and I stopped here for a quick snack and a Narragansett Shandy on tap. He order a Lobster Bisque and I chose a RI Chowda. My Chowda was okay, not great and my son liked his bisque, it too was okay but we both agreed we have had better. The view from the new Pub and Raw Bar is great, just what you would expect from a side restaurant. Sitting next to me was a lady who had graduated Johnson and Wales and was the current Pastry Chef at the Cap’n’s and had worked there for 35 years. We chatted about the biz for sometime until her break was over and she had to return to the kitchen. She stopped us in the parking lot and gave us a fancy crème cheese cupcake and large peanut butter brownie cookie. Folks for know other reason, stop by and pick up dessert at the separate takeout area, you will experience exceptionally flavored, wonderfully creative and not overly sweet desserts… this lady knows her business!!!

If 1) you can’t get into the Matunuck Oyster House across the street or 2) You don’t want to spend as much as you would across the street then this is a good option. They are very different actually but because they are close(& there isn’t anything else here) I thought I would mention it. It’s hit & miss here. If you want to just have cocktails & seafood & chill out appreciating the great view then the lounge is perfect. Strong cocktails. Nice beer options. Dinner? Be prepared to endure the typical wait. Highlights: super perfect beer batter cod fish & chips. Amazing tender & tasty clam cakes, the Stuffies had a fair amount of seafood & spice. The Fisherman’s platter is excellent. They certainly don’t skimp out– totally enough to share. Very fresh, good crunch, not oily, tender scallops, huge cod. Surprisingly the chicken parm was great. Tender cutlet, tangy sauce. Avoid: clam chowder is like lukewarm watery potato soup. No lobster or richness to the lobster bisque. Steak was sent back– over cooked, no cheddar bacon fondu sauce as the menu said. The ice burg wedge salad lacked pizzaz — dressing was scarce & it was comber some to eat. Service is pleasant. The kitchen has issues. Soups came out after our entrees, dishes did not come out as described on the menu, steak was not cooked med as ordered. Advice: stick to seafood only(except chowder/soup) & you should be right as rain!
