While I can’t say I’m an expert on swimming holes(by any stretch), I feel confident in saying that this is a really, really good one. Crystal clear Mad River waters form a deep swimming hole bordered by rocks and tiny cliffs that are perfect for jumping. And this is a great place for young children, too, as the half of the river nearest the beach area is very shallow. The small beach provides a nice viewpoint for parents and sunbathers, and a grassy area somewhat above is a good picnic ground. From the beach, your view to the right is a beautiful vista of the Mad River flowing through a forest and under a bridge on its way to the swimming hole. No pictures can do this justice. It’s a perfectly gorgeous place. Pro-tip: swim to the rocks, then take a walk through the woods to an amazing waterfall. Oh, Vermont.
