This review is based on the food under the glass(typical Chinese style, rice or noodles with a meat). I have no idea how a la carte is. The food was bad. I was starving and managed to wolf some of it down, but the two meats I had were stale and tough, and almost flavorless. The young lady behind the counter was pleasant.

I’ve eaten here almost every day during my vacation in the waimea area. True hawaiian plate lunch, hits the spot. My go-to is the bbq chicken and kalua pork(no cabbage) plate lunch. Awesome!

You’d expect L&L to be better in Hawaii. I don’t know if it’s that Hawaii has better plate lunches to compare to so L&L fell into being less than average when compared to those local places. Or that this L&L really is just mediocre. They serve Chinese food as well as plate lunches. The Chinese food sits in those silver platters and the plate lunches are made to order so you’ll need to wait a little if you get that. I got the fried plate lunch with fried shrimp, fish, and chicken katsu. Chicken katsu was good but a little fatty. Shrimp was good. The fish was really salty to the point of being inedible. Mac salad and rice was good. Go there for quick Chinese food or somewhat good plate lunches but don’t have high expectations.

Lau lau was terrible. The kalua pork needed BBQ sauce. They couldn’t even make good macaroni salad. Embarrassed to be here with my family.

The food’s not half bad, but the grumpy attitude by the lady serving us detracted from the whole Hawaiin plate lunch experience. My son politely for a refill of his soda — that was filled with so much ice initially that there wasn’t much soda to begin with — and she barked at him, «dolla!» We just spent $ 30 bucks and you can’t spare a small refill for less than a «dolla»? I am just a tourist but needless to say we won’t be returning before we leave.

Food is OK, typical plate lunch for Hawaii. Normally we like the L&L chain, but this is a kind of hybrid L&L and Chinese place. We started to order and the woman behind the counter was VERY rude and yelled at us because we started ordering from both the line items(Chinese Fast Food style) and the menu behind her, apparently you only order the menu items at the cash register, but that is not posted anywhere. Ended up getting some food, but should have walked out. Would definitely not return.

Typical plate lunches, BBQ bowls and a few Chinese food style entrees on offer. I went with the Combo Plate which came with beef, breaded fish and breaded shrimp. Beef was pretty good, but the fish and shrimp was heavily breaded. Beneath that, the portions were a little small. Mac salad was good and tons of rice. My wife had the BBQ chicken plate and thought it was good.

Totally tasty and they are open late which is a good thing because most of the little town shuts down pretty early. They have the standard hawaiian fair.

can’t go wrong with L&L! this L&L in particular is very good. their food is always consistent and delicious. even though some of the staff can’t speak good english, they get the point across when ordering(which is all that matters, anyway!!) try the bbq chicken. it’s my favorite :)

Yeah, I ate here. It was only because I was lazy and it was hard to find good descriptions of what local places had on the menu. That said, service was pretty good and the food didn’t dissapoint.

Kalua pig was good, my husband spit out most of the bbq plate because of too much fat and unedible«meat». He suggested Subway. Should have gone there.

After deciding to dine out one evening in Waimea, L & L was pretty much the only place that was open at 7:30p on a weeknight. Business hours on the west side of Kaua’i are strange and unpredictable! The place does«plate lunch» style meals, but I’ve never quite understood what that means considering every restaurant we have ever been to has«plates» already put together from you to pick from, they just call them«meals» instead of «plates.» The inside is decent size: somewhat empty at night but packed during the day. A typical plate runs in the range of $ 10, but you will most likely have a meal for the next day as well. Most things come with a side of rice and a macaroni salad(incredibly common on the island). What we had was good(fish plate, and BBQ plate) but one of the meats(hard to tell what is what) was very fatty and had little edible content to it. There are no free refills, so go up a size in drink if you are thirsty. A refill will cost you ½ price of the full original drink. Really, is soda syrup going up in price or what? I also cannot understand why this place(as well as many other Chinese restaurants we have seen) have«BBQ» in their name. Just because you serve meat with a BBQ sauce on it does not by any means make you a «BBQ» restaurant. All in all, L & L is a decent place to grab a bite, but don’t expect anything spectacular.

The other reviewers must be smoking Maui-wowie because this place was not good. I’ve had me some tasty Hawaiian barbeque in my day and this was not what we were expecting. It’s actually more of a chinese restaurant that tries to do Hawaiian BBQ, and it felt like worlds collided in this case. My girlfriend got the garlic shrimp, which might be good if you’re someone who likes pooh. For the life of me I can’t figure out why they cook the shrimp with the shell and the vain intact. The chicken and the mahi were at least edible if you’re really hungry, which we were. We won’t be going back.

A Waimea Oasis in a dining desert One of the few decent places to eat in the Waimea area. You’re pretty isolated out here and choices few. L&L is a dependable chain serving contemporary Hawaiian foods and Asian entrees. Reasonably priced, quick and pretty good. Lau Lau pork and Locomoco are the hits. This place was an oasis for us since we made the mistake to lodge nearby.

Little place that gets cram packed at lunch — — for a reason. I prefer the lighter menu items and have found most to my liking — but for local style eating and being a totally casual place, I like it. I like it a lot.
