World Famous Shaka Shave Ice

THIS PLACE IS NO LONGER LOCATED WHERE IT SAYS ON Unilocal! The owner opens on makaha beach right in front of the makaha beach cabanas. His hours vary but he’s working on coming more consistently.
I highly recommend this place. Best shave ice on the west side hands down. Tons of flavors, lots of shave ice given, and great service. The owner’s so friendly. Give him some business and you won’t regret it.

Had a variety of flavors. It also has options for ice cream and condensed milk. It was pretty good! Perfect after a day at the beach or hiking. The owner was very nice.

It was the last day of our trip, we were headed home the next morning. We were staying in Maili and spent the day at Pililaau Army Rec. center /​Rest beach. We wanted to finish off the day and our trip with one last shave ice. We stopped in and saw that Shaka shave ice was closed on Mondays. Just as we were leaving Reggie (the owner) came outside and said he was just dropping something off but would open up for us. Super nice dude! Spent about 45 minutes talking to us about the mainland and his story.
We tried shave ice 3 other places on the island and Shaka shave ice was the best hands down. If you’re on the west side of the island it’s definitely worth stopping in or even going out of your way for this shave ice!

Reggie was one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. He personally greeted us outside and walked us into the shop. He gave us a brief run down of what he offered, then he let us sample a few different flavors. Delicious shave ice with a smooth texture. We went with dreamsicle, coconut, and pineapple — coconut was the tastiest. :)

I love this place. I’ve been here a couple of times. Reggie the owner is super nice. His shave ice is the best. I think it’s better than Matsumoto’s on the North Shore and you don’t have to wait in line. Great place to stop after hiking to Kaena Point. It’s on your way out of town after a long hot day of hiking. Try it… you’ll love it.

Went here at 3 on Monday ¹¹⁄₉ and it was closed. Not sure if they were just out for a bit or if it is closed indefinitely.

In my opinion, & the opinion of my 3 kids, the best shave ice on oahu! We come to Pokai Bay all the time to paddle board & just tried it today for the first time. My 10 year old said this will be a must every time we come now. So good!

There’s quite a lot of shave ice places here on Oahu and i have got to say this is a really great shave ice place! Easy to locate, it’s right across Waianae store next to hale nalu. I had the keiki size which was actually pretty big. I tried the the passion fruit n guava flavor and let me tell you, it taste great! It didn’t have a weird taste like some do, and of course I topped it off with the snow cap! :) it was nice and ‘fine’ ice, if you tried a lot of shave ice you’ll know what I mean! But if you are out on the westside I would most definitely recommend stopping by for a cool treat!

I have never been disappointed by world famous Shaka shave ice. I always try to bring new people here to experience Reggies (the owner) shave ice. Usually they become repeat customers.
Reggie is always very friendly and the flavors of the shave ice are unbeatable. Prices are very reasonable also.
You can choose to either eat inside or enjoy your shave ice outside on the bench.
My favorite flavor combinations so far are mango, li hing mui and strawberry colada. With a snow cap.

I actually never knew there was a place to get shaved ice in Wai’anae. This one is located across of the Wai’anae Store. The ice was very fine and the taste was great — especially on a hot summer day. The price was great ($ 4.25 for a large!!! and it was HUGE!) I added a scoop of vanilla ice cream for $ 0.75 and the total was $ 5.00. The only thing was he didn’t have azuki beans yet (he said he is in the process of making that happen), but he did have ice cream and snow caps for the shaved ice. The owner is a very cool braddah and the establishment inside was cool (AC) and clean. Definitely recommended!

I’m hardly out on this side of the island, but when I am I will always try to make it a point to explore some local businesses. I came to Shaka Shave Ice one day to get shave ice (duh), and I was honestly quite impressed with this place.
SO MANY FLAVORS. And for those who want it, they even have sugar-​free flavors and while I’m personally not a fan of those because of the taste, I personally know a lot of people who do appreciate having that alternate option. They had so many original and special flavors that I really did have trouble picking only 3 on my «small» shave ice (and I say «small» because that’s what it was called, but it definitely was not small in terms of relative size!!!) I ended up picking grape, lychee, and lihing flavors. I should’ve known that picking lihing as a syrup flavor is always risky, because it just didn’t taste quite lihing-​y. But other than that, it was delicious.
Overall, the shave ice sizes are priced very fairly and you may be pleasantly overwhelmed with the selection of flavors available. But give it a shot and you may just keep coming back! :)

While on Oahu and visiting Waianae we were in need of something cool and refreshing after surfing. We heard wonderful things about Shaka Shave ice and stopped in. Reggie, the owner was friendly, kind, and ready to serve us his awesome shaved ice. They were big fat mounds of pure deliciousness. His syrup is the best I’ve ever tasted! Absolutely the best shaved ice experience I’ve had!!! Wonderful conversation with the owner… ono shaved ice :-) Hubby & I will definitely be coming back.
