West Oahu Community Federal Credit Union(WOCFCU) has three branches. The main branch is out in Barbers Point for members who live in the area. A second branch services the residents in Ewa and Ewa Beach. The last branch services the residents of the Waianae Coast. I’ve been a credit union member for over 10years. I have a rainy day savings account at the Waianae branch. When I first became a member of the WOCFCU… i had a joint account with my grandmother(RIPMAMA) and gradually I had my own account. At one point the interest rates for a CD account was very high and I had my money stashed into the account for a long while until the CD due date. Every now and then I tend to withdraw from my rainy day savings account. I just need to remember to replace the money that I have withdrawn and add a bit more money so that the account may grow. It bites that the current interest rate is very low… it’s like earning a penny or two every quarter. Besides offering savings account and CD accounts to residents… the WOCFCU also offers personal loans, car loans, line of credit, and home mortgage loans. The employees at the Waianae branch of WOCFCU are very friendly and they manage to get credit union members out the door within a timely matter so the next person in line could be helped. One thing I take notice about the quarterly newsletters that WOCFCU sends out to its members is that they provide background information on several members who were selected or elected to be board members of WOCFCU. Sometimes they would even have the application for a credit card printed up on one side of the newsletter. Other times they would advertise about WOCFCU anniversary and informs us on how much it would cost to attend the dinner. It’s always good to have a rainy day savings account on hand… you just never know on when you need to access it for emergency purposes. Now I just need to deposit more moolahs into the account so it can grow. Someday my rainy day savings account will go towards my little niece when she gets older… like when she reaches the age of 18. That’s 16 more years from now. Can you imagine how much the rainy day savings account will be worth by then?
