We’ve been to plenty of other wineries where the host is enthusiastic and full of information… this was not one of them. They put on a video and poured samples throughout. Disappointing.

I’m not a wine snob — at all. I went here once for a tasting but, since I’ve been to others, I knew it wasn’t great. The wines were okay. Nothing too exciting. Since they were right next to firefly, I expected to be blown away. My sister-in-law and I are both avid wine drinkers and when she wanted to do the wine tasting and firefly, I told her the wine wasn’t worth it. I’m still more excited for the wine-a-ritas! They were very Very VERY tasty! The gift shoppe was great as well. They sell a lot of firefly items too. I gave my SIL this instead of the tasting. She loved it! Don’t make a special trip for this place. It’s okay, but it probably would’ve tanked if not for Firefly right next door.

We had the BEST time at Deep Water Vineyards. We had planned to treat our mom with a private wine tasting but were surprised with so much more. Vivi hosted our private wine tasting… she was fantastic! Our favorite was the Red Semi dry. Vivi was fun and gracious! She allowed us to take our time and enjoy our own wine tasting. After tasting 5 wines, we enjoyed a Wine-a-rita…so good! I’m usually not one to love sugary drinks but this was delicious! I loved the blueberry pomegranate but my sister favored the peach Bellini. You can’t go wrong. Next, we surprised ourselves with tasting at the Firefly distillery! 5 flavors for only $ 6! Keith was so much fun. thanks for keeping my mom on her toes! We had a blast here. Ended up staying for almost 4 hours and made some new friends. Thanks for the southern hospitality!

After my first visit last year, I had to bring my husband back this year on our vacation. I love hearing the story of how the winery started and am saddened to hear it is for sale! I definitely feel blessed to have had the chance to visit twice however! Both times I have been here the staff has been so welcoming… you can tell everyone is either family or a family friend. The tastings are $ 5 to sample their 5 wines and you keep the wine glass! During the tasting you watch a video about how the winery started, what process they use, descriptions of the wines, etc. Bottles are able to be purchased for just $ 12 and are able to be shipped to every state(with the exception of a few). I highly recommend any local or tourist to visit the winery while it is still there!

Our 1st experience visiting a winery and im glad it was this place. Well worth the trip. Learned quite a bit about the process while being able to sample the 5 wines they make. We liked 4 of them and walked out with a few to take home. Only $ 12 a bottle for any of the types.

This is tough one — they were very kind to my bored kids. We missed the small signage on the main road and had to turn around, but once on the vineyard I commented to my friend on why I wonder there was such heavy canopy over the grapes(more on this later). I’ve not had the pleasure of trying a muscadine wine, so the rating is also for me being able to check this off my wine to-do list. As for the wines, they’re ok. Nothing spectacular. Our arrival was the end of another wine tasting which packed the large gift shop area full of poeple — on a Tuesday afternoon! Cute local products, wine accessories, the typical inventory. As for our wine tasting, they set my kids up in the back and offered unfermented«wine», which they do sell, and in my opinion would be the only thing I would purchase from their inventory. We watched a brief video while the guy poured 5 selections, some questions answered, some not. Like when I inquired about the excess canopy on the vines on our way in. The guy leading the tasting — while funny and entertaining — clearly has a shtick and does not prefer to veer far from it, so although I did get a textbook answer about how shade affects grapes(to which I already knew that part, I was inquiring if this was done on purpose for this varietal or if the pruning was being neglected due to the property being up for sale) he did not answer my specific question. So I’m lead to believe he quite possibly may not have known the answer. Tasting room is also a stock room which is far from other adorable tasting rooms I’ve visited, with machines around the corner. The guy told us to sit in the back(with the bored teenagers), rather than at the main table which did have space for us. And so almost everything was difficult to hear due to someone working around the corner on whatever machine I could hear. Personally, I say skip this tasting room and head over to Firefly in the building across the patio. I got a much better vibe from the staff over there. Bathrooms are upgraded«outhouse/port-o-pots»

Went here on a rainy day and enjoyed our time. The distillery and the liquors were great, but the wines were just so-so. We had a blast sampling all of the liquors and the lady running the bar was hilarious and friendly. I think between the 4 of us we sampled everything on the menu and ended up taking home several bottles plus the complimentary glasses. The wine was a bit less impressive, but I only like really sweet wines so I just sipped at everything.

The first thing you will notice as you drive up to the 48-acre winery and vineyard is how beautiful it is! The second thing is how welcoming everyone is! The grounds are covered with beautiful oak trees and has a rather large back yard where you can bring a picnic lunch and enjoy your afternoon. You can even purchase a bottle of wine there and enjoy that along with it! They have a few animals on the property that you can check out, chickens, a rather large pig, a goat, and some attack rabbits. There is a tire swing and cornhole boards as well. It is very family friendly so don’t hesitate to bring the little ones! Tastings are only $ 5! This includes a taste of all 5 of their wines. You also get to keep your glass. Buy your ticket as soon as you get there. You may have to wait a few minutes, but that gives you time to walk around some. Once inside the tasting room you will learn about the history of the Irvin House Vineyards and about each wine. Don’t worry if you have never had muscadine wine, you are sure to like it! They also have a gift shop where you can buy their wine along with other cute items. The Firefly Distillery is directly next door. Make an afternoon out of it! My only suggestion would be to do the wine tasting prior to the liquor tasting. They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p. m

A great afternoon was spent here! I would recommend both tastings at the vineyard and the distillery. Also, if you are a bit of a light weight in the alcohol department, I’d suggest packing a snack and relaxing on one of the many patio chairs or picnic tables and absorb the scenery!

We were disappointed that we were only able to taste 3 out of the 5 wines due to the other two being sold out. The wines were ok.

We stayed in Charleston and since we all flew in the vineyard provided us with a bus for transportation. Our driver was david and he made the drive so much fun! Such a nice accommodating man! He offered us locations to see, info about the vineyard, and not to mention the most delicious mimosas! The wine tasting was so much fun and I’ve never tasted better wine! They served food, i got the jalapeño cheese burger with Mac and cheese, absolutely delicious! I plan on coming back just for the grape stomping and oyster cook out!

$ 5 gets you a sample of each of their wines and juices(and you can have seconds if you wish). It also comes with complimentary wine glasses. None of the wine was bad and two were very good. We bought a bottle of Magnolia and both types of juice they have. The lady who gave us our samples was very friendly and there was an interesting video playing about the owners of the property. Definitely worth a visit to the island if combined with Firefly Distillery, Angel Oak, and the Charleston Tea Plantation.

The wine was great and unique to the low country. Cell phone reception is bad but you have enough this to keep you busy. They serve food, also have a distillery, farm animals and have live music at certain times.

The Irvin House Vineyards are in the same location as the Firefly Distillery; in fact, they have the same owners. Having lived in Northern California and frequented Napa and Sonoma a bit, I’m used to the wine tasting process. It was different here — not pretentious at all, and really«wholesome» — a business run by family and friends. So no, don’t expect refined winery(don’t even bother if you’re looking for anything like California) but with the sweet grapes you can grow in the heat of the South(muscadine), you aren’t going to get your Pinots or Chardonnay. You will, however, get a passable semi-dry chilled wine for sipping under a fan on a covered veranda in the heat of summer. For $ 5, you get 5 tastings(they are small), and you get to keep the glass, too. Don’t bring the Benz — the dirt driveway and gravel lot is not as friendly as the staff!

Fun, quaint, open and even a bit educational. Do you like Firefly vodka or moonshine? Do you like wine both red, white and a blend? Do you like tire swings and cornhole? Do you like goats and turkeys? Do we have a place for you just 17 miles outside of Charleston. As a retirement project started in 2001, the winery and distillery has become a local favorite for tastings, picnics, live music, wandering wildlife and so much more. Spend a few hours on a warm or cool weekly between 9 and 5 and you will want to come back for more. Wine tastings are $ 5.00 for 5 samples and the distillery is $ 6.00 for 6 samples. Come on by.

Friendly service and right beside Firefly. $ 4 for 5 tastings along with a 15 minute video. The guy heading up the tasting was very knowledgable but a little long winded. The good thing about him talking so much is that he is heavy handed with his pours. $ 12 for a bottle isn’t too bad. They use Muscadine grapes. March isn’t the greatest time as it isn’t the grape season yet but it is till worth the trip out.

While muscadine isn’t my choice for wine and the tasting isn’t super-informative of the overall wine-producing process, this is a cute outing in the Lowcountry area and something you can’t get everywhere(no, not the wine, the vineyard in SC). It’s a cute place with chickens, roosters, turkeys, peacocks and a nice garden. They have a big festival in August that looks like a blast and for a couple who decided to do this as their retirement I have to give them credit. The service was great, even with as busy as they were and they have a cute shop with kitchy stuff for folks back home who may be watching your pets or house(yes, you should get them something). Considering the tasting is $ 4 it’s hard to say it’s a rip-off, especially if you’re someone who really enjoys this style of wine. Worth a stop if you’re in the area.

Visited South Caro December 2012. I found this place through a google search of free things to do in Charleston. I’m so glad we went here. It’s nice to support a mom and pop place. You pretty much have free range to roam anywhere on the property you want. We got alot of great pictures in the vineyard. It’s funny because there’s a little white cow that roams the vineyard freely. I mean you can pet him. There’s a tire swing on a tree, picnic tables, rocking chairs, a field with trees covered with hanging moss and beautiful fallen autumn leaves, a pond with a dock and row boat, lemon trees, orange trees, chickens, goats, rabbits, cute dogs, etc. These were all great for pictures. There was a bunny coop with baby bunnies which we were allowed to hold. OMG so cute! I loved that we were allowed to do as we please for as long as we wanted because it’s a truly beautiful place and great for pictures. I didn’t intend to do the wine tasting but for four dollars and you get a complimentary wine glass I figured why not. This is so worth it. They take you in a room that is set up with wine glasses and bottles of cooled wine. You watch a video on the history of the place and the presenter tells you about the wine she lets you taste. The wines were so good we walked away with two bottles. They were only twelve dollars a bottle. It’s nice to know you’re supporting a mom and pop place and that you know where your wine came from. Also, they let you have seconds, thirds, fourths, fifths etc at the tasting. The wines were really good too(although I’m not an expert). We just happened to meet Mr. Irvin too while he was walking around the property. We recognized him from the video at the wine tasting. He was friendly and gave us a little tour of their rum making process.

For a vineyard, this place is a joke. I like how i explained it to my dad’s wife«Its like a 3 year old scribbling with crayons on a piece of paper and expecting to be placed into the same category as sophisticated fine arts». I mean, processed sugar from Costco to create the muscadine wine they claim are«Dessert» or «Sipping» wines. It’s insulting to viticulture/viniculture within the east coast. This place is perfect evidence as to why there aren’t any other vineyards in South Carolina. The terrior is cringe-worthy; you can be snooty and call it Rustic, but a sweet grape like muscadine shouldn’t have the aroma of pig mud; even the surrounding pines near the vines come through in the smell slightly. If this was their say, second or third year in the wine business than I’d be like«A for effort, keep on trying!» But, not only have they done it for ten years, but they seem perfectly content with what they turn out. They cater to those who want to try the wine culture without knowing anything about wine. At the tasting(which they have the nerve to charge $ 4 for), there was no discussion of the aroma, no observation of color, no thorough description of what goes into the wine creating process(do they oak or not, how long is it stored, how thorough are they with removing stems and skins, how is the sugar added, why that kind, etc etc). I’m pretty sure by the end of it, the woman in charge of the tasting was sick of me because I was inquiring about(basic) things she didn’t have knowledge of. I’d recommend skipping this experience and just buying a bottle of Barefoot or Yellowtail and going on a hike — same outdoors feel, similar poor quality but at least the smell isn’t offensive.

Wineries in South Carolina? Good stop on the drive between Charleston & Savannah. The Firefly Distillery is also on the grounds. Convenient to stop here & at the Charleston Tea Plantation since they are fairly close together. The Vineyards/Distillery are off a country road with light traffic. So the drive is quiet & relaxing. They make 5 varieties of wines made from the Muscadine grape. The variety I bought reminded me of a good port. The Firefly Vodkas they produce are vodkas infused with tea. They have also started producing Firefly Bourbon, which is… bourbon infused with tea.
