YMCA of Central Texas

This place is the best for families who want to stay in shape and live healthy. Sports, child care, swimming, weights, groups, classes, elliptical machines… they’ve got it all!

A good YMCA. Very large with a couple of pools. Never too crowded. Fairly updated.

My family has been a member of the waco ymca for over 12 years. I have been off to college for the past 5 years and my sister had been away in the navy for 2. We were finally home together and wanted to go workout at the Y. Upon going we were informed that my sister could no longer workout because they took her off our plan because she recently turned 23. They were very unhelpful and rude. They would not work with us to figure out a way to workout for one day. This is how they treat veteran and military members? Will be canceling my membership. Where’s the family gone in waco family ymca?

I’m between 3 & 4 stars.
The gym has a lot of machines, well taken care of. Magazines to read while walking or riding bike, a lot of classes available for everyone of all different capacities.
The weight room is large and intimidating, open to adults, many different weight machines that the average person wouldn’t have a clue how to use. There is a weight room office usually staffed with someone for all of your questions.
They have child care for those with kiddos during the day hours.
3 Pools, racquet ball rooms, 2 gyms (1 multipurpose), locker rooms, many different work out rooms for classes or stretching.
This gym can be a little intimidating because of the sheer size of it, but it tends to be a little more homey than you’d expect.

I’m quite disappointed in the classes, they stop at the exact time I get out of work. There are no classes that start past 6:30.
What about the people that work until 5, 6, or 7, pm? I would adore taking a class but I’m not able to because all the classes are over by the time I’m off.

The staff is very friendly, always up and moving, and willing to help with any questions.

One thing that bugs the CRAP out of me here is that the staff does not enforce the cleaning of your machines once you’re off of them.
Its in your best interest to clean the machines before you use them as well as after =
Each morning at 6:30 am you go, and there is an old white man with dark gray hair and moustache, and a tall, average, black female both that sweat incredibly, and get the machines gross and then walk away from them, in the weight room, in the machine room and I doubt they’d even go as far as washing their hands in the restroom… Good night. Those are two I notice because I see them so often, but as a patron I shouldn’t have to feel so inclined to tell these people to clean off their machines, the workers should. The should be noticing things like this, being there more than I am — and discretely tell these patrons to clean their machines after use, its common courtesy.

The staff here are very friendly. They offer a lot of different classes for all ages. There are a good amount of cardio machines and weight equipment. They have three swimming pools, two indoor basketball courts and separate locker rooms for male and females and families. Also, if you have children, they offer child watch for free! :)
