Shogun offers a great experience. It’s a typical Cook-In-Front-Of-you restaurant. Food is delicious and you always know what’s being prepared in front of you. Most chefs add funny acts in their cooking I.e. making a train out of the onions. Good place to bring kids. They’ll love it! The only reason I give it four stars is due to The price, but other than that, it’s great!

Shogun has definitely been my favorite for as long as I have been here. The chefs are wonderful and the service is attentive! I always get the combination fried rice, salmon sashimi, seaweed salad, and the nude roll! Always satisfied. :)

In town visiting friends. We are all sushi snobs. We came here based on other Unilocal recommendations. Extremely disappointed. First, it’s 50 degrees outside and about 45 inside the place. Turn on the freaking heater! There are only 15 speciality rolls on the sheet. What? 5 of which are just«fish wrapped over fish roll». Not special at all. They were out of smoked salmon so that too knocked 3 rolls off our choices. Went with Mon Ro, Nude and Dragonfly. Miso soup was missing tofu. Only about 3 baby cubes in the whole bowl. House salad was pretty good. Wish they’d turn the heat to something higher than outside. sheesh. Dragonfly roll was by far the best. The Mon Ro description says«cucumber paper» but what came out was big thick chunks of cucumber wrapped around. Not tasty at all. The nude had too much mayo and kinda«blah.» Overall, not that great. Don’t think we will be coming here again; definitely not for sushi. Maybe the hibachi is better?

Mine and the lady’s favorite sushi place in Waco. We sit at the sushi bar so we never have to deal with the wait staff except to order drinks. The sushi chefs always recognize us and treat us well and even make us samples throughout our meal.

Being an out-of-towner, I had no knowledge of this place. We came here because where I really wanted to go, Fuji, had a 30 – 45 min wait and one of the people in our group did not feel like waiting. I read the reviews and was concerned we were going to have some really crappy service … we did not. I’ll admit, it was a tad bit slow in the beginning, but unlike other Unilocalers, I had no issues getting refills, nor did anyone else at our table. I do agree with Steve M, this place is a bit pricey. I am from Houston and I do not pay $ 23 for hibachi here in H-town, so why I am doing so in Waco is really beyond me. I ordered Filet Mignon and Chicken, but the waiter screwed up and wrote down Filet Mignon and Shrimp … no biggie … I didn’t want to hold anything up so I ate what they brought me. I requested my filet be cooked medium and my dad requested his be cooked medium-well … what I ended up with was medium-rare and my dad ended up with medium. Again, no biggie, I’m not sensitive to this, so long as the meat isn’t still freakin’ moo-ing. Overall, the food was average, not as bad as others mentioned and certainly not as good as what I get in H-town. My big thing is that the interior of this place needs a serious face-lift … the flooring was stained and some spots were bleached. I imagine that it was really nice back in like 1980 or something, but like all things, it needs some maintenance. The chef was really nice and put on an okay show, and the other employees were nice & helpful, too.

The food was decent, a little on the pricey side. The service was really slow. All of our food came out at different times. Overall, I wouldn’t go back unless somebody else paid.

The low rating isn’t for the food. I actually enjoy their sushi. There service is just terrible. I have been here probably 6 times… each time I went back I hoped it would be better, but the service remains terrible. They do not turn around tables well, you are lucky if your glass is refilled once, and every time I have to hunt down the waitress, give her the money and walk out. I will say the sushi chefs are great guys and very friendly.
