I went to Dr Gubman to get new contacts and glasses when I moved to NJ 4 years ago.
For glasses, the available frames looked much better than those available at my previous Optometrist in MD and I was able to find a pair that are very light and look great on me. He also partners with Rudy Project to provide prescription sport sunglasses with prescription lenses or inserts, who are the best for sport Rx imo.
For contacts, I had to try 3 different pairs until one that was comfortable. He would see me every week through the trial process until we found the one that works. I’m glad that he took the time to help me find a pair that I could wear comfortably without irritation.
He has always answered my questions and explained anything I didn’t understand.
The reason you need an eye exam every year for contacts is to check how your eyes respond to having foreign objects covering them every day. Having had an eye infection from contacts, I wouldn’t trust a Dr that renewed your prescription without an eye exam.
The staff are nice, and can help you find frames if you’re not sure what to look for.
If you prefer to get your glasses /​contacts elsewhere, just ask for a copy of your prescription. I keep a copy in my wallet just in case I lose mine when travelling so that I can get a replacement wherever I am.

Last year we used Dr Gubman to get contacts for my 16 year old daughter. He wasn’t cheap, but seemed to do know his trade. Not knowing better, we purchased the contacts from him.
We called to renew her prescription and were told that since it was just beyond one year, that she needed an Eye Exam as well as a Refraction exam. Even though her prescription hasn’t changed, you need to pay these fees. When I questioned about the price of the contacts, they were Double what I could buy them on line … Beware of this guy… its all about the $$$

I’ve been going to Dr. Gubman since I first got glasses 13 years ago. He is such a wonderful optometrist, I have never gone to anyone else. No matter how far away I live, I always make it a point to come back for my annual check up with him. 3 years ago I decided to have Lasik, and he made the entire process so easy. He came with me to the surgery, and kept on top of my follow up appointments (What other doctor does that?). You won’t regret switching to Dr. Gubman
