Had an excellent stay at Travaasa and the Preserve was one of the highlights. The food and service was excellent. I have a lot of respect for restaurants that publish calorie and macronutrient info for all of their dishes. Even if the info isn’t always 100% accurate, it helps health-conscious diners plan a meal they won’t feel guilty about or wonder if their dish contains 1,000+ calories like so many restaurant dishes out there. While sitting at the kitchen-view«community table,» one of the cooks told us they prepare food with a conscious effort to reduce butter, salt, sugar, etc. Dishes are prepared with exceptionally fresh ingredients, many of which are grown on-site. There were numerous vegetarian options that were unique and innovative(ie, not just salads/tofu). The restaurant had a great wine selection and innovative dessert menu. During the course of our stay, my wife and I had four different salads/starters, a trout dish, cannelloni, a New York strip, wild boar and three different desserts. Everything was great. Breakfast was outstanding. They have made healthier versions of comfort foods like French toast, sweet potato hash, etc.

The Preserve Kitchen and Bar is part of the Travassa ‘experiential’ resort and corporate retreat in the hills above Volente on Lake Travis. It’s a beautiful resort with a great spa and pool. But don’t let the ‘resort’ part prevent you from having dinner or drinks at the Preserve — it’s open to the public if you call beforehand. The wine list here is one of the best I’ve seen in Austin. Although it’s not particularly long, it has offerings from unusual places like Greece… and Texas(several good local wines, including McPherson). The dinner menu changes nightly and includes the caloric/fat content of each dish(including desserts). The prices are in the $ 20’s for entrees for the most part. I’ve had a couple of great fish entrees and the vegetarian risotto on two recent visits. There’s a patio for dining al fresco.

FRESHCATCHWRAP– Fish, cole slaw, pico de gallo, and chipotle mayo This was soooo GOOD! At first I was a bit relucant to eat it. I just thought it was just going to be edible, but when I took my first bite and got that amazing crunch from the cole slaw and spice from the pice de gallo and moist and savory fish, I nearly fainted! Everything tasted so fresh and light. I was in heaven. I definitely want to come back here to enjoy this experience again!
