Bill Nimmo Saved My Life
In March of 2007 I was charged with two counts of attempted murder on a peace officer, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of felon with a firearm. I was housed in Los Angeles County Jail for almost four years and finally went home in November, 2010. This is a true story of how good legal representation can really be the difference between life and death.
When I was first arrested I didn’t really know what was going on. I had never really been seriously in the system before and had no idea what was going on. My family retained a lawyer for me that they had researched and found to be a top notch trial attorney. It took me until September of 2007 before I made it to my preliminary hearing and actually got to see my attorney in action. Well, my attorney may have been well connected but he absolutely did not have the experience to deal with a violent crime case; especially one that involved police officers.
My first attorney filed a 995 motion for dismissal and not surprisingly was denied twice. He was simply going through the motions to show that he had done everything he could. When, in fact, he actually hurt my case by not asking the right questions or getting the right experts involved immediately. He continued to postpone for trial for a multitude of different reasons and saying he was ‘trying’ to do everything he could to get a good resolution in my case. Until August 2008 he came and visited me with another «top trial attorney» from his firm. They basically tag teamed me and with their ‘vast knowledge’ guaranteed me that I would get at least 29 years if I took my case to trial because they couldn’t disprove assault with a firearm. Sure, they would probably beat the attempted murder, but there was no guarantee there and wouldn’t I just be better off accepting the 20 year plea deal?
I spent many nights thinking about the deal. While I didn’t believe what I did even deserved a tenth of that time I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life in prison. Getting out in 16 years or so was better than never seeing daylight again. At least that’s what I started to believe. My attorney contacted my parents and even had them convinced. That’s when I went for a second opinion. That’s when I contacted Bill Nimmo and asked what he thought about the case.
Mr. Nimmo immediately took an interest in my case. He explained that he was a violent crime specialist and was incredibly experienced at dealing with police and their testimony. He explained exactly what he would do if given the opportunity to work on my case, and it sounded like a dream, but I had no choice but to try.
Within one month of retaining Mr. Nimmo he had an investigator out to speak with me and based on that information and after reviewing the case had hired a specialist. The specialist was someone he had obviously worked with before and had amazing credentials. The expert witness was an ex-​captain in the LAPD, force investigation division, among many other decorated positions. The witness was so strong that the DA actually ran a Pitchess motion against him to see if he really was who he said he was. Of course, he was, and at this point things started happening.
Suddenly I had a new district attorney and a new courtroom and judge. Things started moving faster and it seemed like we were always talking about something at court instead of just having dry runs. Mr. Nimmo started arguing all the points of the case and was extremely knowledgeable about firearms and weapons. He started pointing out all the inaccuracies in the police statements and how the physical evidence obviously was not lining up with their version of what happened. Suddenly it looked like I was telling the truth and things really started to move.
In the end, Mr. Nimmo proved to the court and district attorney that I was not a threat to society and that the police officers were just overly excited and exaggerating the circumstances. Without even going to trial a deal was reached where ultimately I was released in November of 2010. Four years of incarceration and I am now walking free on the streets. If I hadn’t have picked up that On-​Trial Magazine in Los Angeles county and called Bill Nimmo I might still be in prison and for a very long time.
I recommend Mr. Nimmo to anyone who will listen. If your family can pool together resources and contact him it is worth it. I know firsthand that how much a lawyer costs does not measure his worth. Neither does how well he can convince you he’s the best trial lawyer. I spent over 120k on my first attorney and he was supposed to be one of the best trial attorneys in the nation. The only thing he was really good at was taking my money and attempting to make my family think he did the best he could. Results are what matters.
Bill Nimmo simply has the best results I’ve ever seen. I’m living proof.
