Big Jim’s 395 Grill

I have only eaten here once so I want to be clear that Im only basing this off of one order. I got the veggie pita and it was just ok. I ordered it, took it back to my office which is about 3 minutes from Big Jim’s, and began to eat. I had to only eat the innards (veggies within the pita) because the pita was mushy and way to soggy to consume. I did not eat all the veggies only bc I was way to busy. Sad thing is that I was really looking forward to eating the entire thing. I will order from them again because I dont think one time experience it enough to give a proper review but I will either dine in, or order the veggie pita to where I can put it together once I get it to my office.
I will update my review once I give them a second chance.

I love a good sandwich and Big Jim’s 395 gives just that! I love the 395 on fresh sourdough. I always think there is no way I can finish the entire sandwich and I do every time! Their breads are so fresh it makes the sandwich that much better.

We love both their breakfast and lunch menu items! The restaurant is clean and comfortable! Also we enjoy the outside deck area!
My favorite is a Turkey Swiss on Squaw Bread!

Great place for Breakfast and Sandwiches. I work in the food industry and yes, the value you’re getting here for the quality and quantity is outstanding.

Ask to have your Burger well-​done? Get the fuck outta here… anyone asking a freshly ground hand-​packed Burger to be well-​done has no business rating food. With all due respect but stick with activities you actually know about.
I honestly believe that if you look for a great value and tasty food Jim is the place. Furthermore, if you have the opportunity to meet this guy, he has a very interesting background and some of his customers have stories real life stories that are truly amazing and awe inspiring.

The turkey on squaw was AMAZING! Best sandwich I’ve had in a very long time. All the ingredients were super fresh and left me very satisfied! Plus the employees are super friendly and cool! Bridgett at the register was awesome as well as Big Jim himself!

Bought a Local Flavor voucher to give it a try. We figured since it was one of those places that closes early they would serve breakfast until the close — we we wrong. Ended up getting lunch and although it was good, it wasn’t what we expected. I can not even recall what we had, so I guess I was not very impressed.

Our favorite sandwich place by far! We can always count on delicious sandwiches from Big Jims. I have a family of 4 and we like to try new things each time we come in. Everything we’ve had is excellent.

Love it here! Every time I go, they know my sandwich by heart and the whole staff is great!!! Would recommend the tuna sandwich on sour dough with cheddar sprouts pepperachinis and avos!

I had a turkey on squaw, it was absolutely delicious. The amount of turkey they pit on my sandwich was amazing. The y have a very nice back patio and the inside is clean. The woman who helped us was very friendly.

Don’t come to Big Jim’s expecting to find culinary masterpieces on their chalkboard menu. What you will find here are hungry locals and owners with a passion to feed hungry Squirrels.

You should stop by Big Jim’s if you ever find yourself in Vista and want to experience some down home friendly service.

Great food for a diner experience. The service was great. The food was delicious. Pancakes, hash browns, bacon, fresh squeezed juices were wonderful.

Had a great lunch there today. You cannot find a better veggie pita around. Will go back again! :-)

This place is terrible. After hearing great things we tried them one day about 30 minutes before they closed. The waitress was nice but the food was awful.
Then tried them a second time but for breakfast and it too was bad… Really bad. I ate the french toast but the sausage was literally inedible. It mirrored a fast food, freezer sausage patty.
Overall the food is poor quality. Wont be back.

Very solid sandwich and chips; nothing life-​changing, but that isn’t what they are going for here. What do I mean by that? Well, I could go to the store and buy all the same ingredients and make the same sandwich. No secrets to it, but I don’t want to… I want to swing by and grab one for $ 8 with tax, pretty great deal since it is a large portion.
Had the roast beef hot and added horseradish which was actually spicy (always appreciate that). The homemade chips were definitely solid. I am definitely going to try those pickle fries next time, they look awesome! Friendly staff too.

Ate here for the first time yesterday. Could not believe we had not seen it sooner as they told us they had been open 19 months. We found them on Unilocal… and due to the high rating… thought we’d try a new place.
First thing we noticed was the friendly greeting and spotless dining room. Big Jim is a retired Marine and the decoration honor our nation and troops.
The patio in the back is quiet, shaded and serene… but we ate inside and chatted with the owners.
All of their hamburgers are ½ # and mine was great. They have homemade Chili, Hot Dogs, Brats, Sandwiches and everything for breakfast. We will definitely make this a regular stop… the food, service and ambiance were all excellent.

The only thing those Burger King Chicken fries remind me of are Big Jim’s one and only Pickle fries. You may have had pickle chips all over the south and even a handful of places out here, but I’ve never had pickle fries anywhere but here. Lets face it spears are the best ways to eat pickles, why not for fried pickles. Chips are great, but they are harder to batter, and harder to keep that batter crunchy.
Speaking of chips, their homemade kind are like little small batch old school kettle kind with supreme crunchy, hot hair thin like lays, no no, about halfway between that and tortilla chips. Freshly salted. These 2 almost steal the show from the sandwiches.
Service is great, they have a large menu and don’t be put off by the price, once you see the portions you won’t feel bad. It’s a hair higher than many sandwich deli’s, but I’ve seen quite a few people not be able to finish their salads. I love the butter they use to golden the bread on their tuna melt. I wish they carried some capicola or other true Italian meats besides genoa salami. Turkey on squaw is kind of the standard for size. Daily specials. Homemade 1,000 island dressing is excellent. I recommend greek simply for value.
I haven’t been there for breakfast yet, but if the salads and sandwiches are of any indication you will be more than filled up. Staff is very friendly and you’ll be able to catch the owners here on a regular basis.
Chili is beefy, beany and thick. The chili cheese fries are excellent due to the crisp fries and fresh ingredients. They are very generous with the red onions so be careful on all their items.
It’s a local café with diner qualities. It’s one of the top deli spots in the area with tons of offerings. Hours are not the greatest. Come for the chips and fries (both pickle and regular) and stay for the sandwiches and salads.

Looks like a hole in the wall place but the lackluster building front is made up for with great food. I was skeptical but I was not disappointed. Great sandwich, friendly service and fair to low prices.
I ordered the 395 sandwich on sourdough. The bread was incredibly soft and fresh and much larger than normal sliced bread. Inside was bacon, avocado, shredded jack cheese, finely shredded lettuce that soaked up all the Italian dressing goodness. Came plated with homemade chips that had a salt and pepper season and a deli pickle.
I first I thought they have me a tiny pickle but then I realized it was just a huge sandwich. See picture*
Only improvement that I would make is a better quality bacon. It may have been the pre-​cooked kind. It was kind of thin. I love all bacon and I almost feel guilty complaining about it bit that def would have made this a 6 star review. Oh wait, they don’t have those. Eat here. You’ll love it.

Great place. First time here. Check in deal 20% on a sandwich or hamburger which I used. The service was good, they are very friendly, and the food was delicious. I had the egg salad sandwich– on squaw bread, and it comes with lettuce, and potatoe chips and a pickle on the side. Cute little place. Plenty of seating. They also have a little patio in the back with an umbrella. Prices are very reasonable. Check this place out.
