The biggest and best of all used bookstores in Wisconsin! A virtual treasure warehouse of all and more than you could ask for in every category of print. Three floors of high ceiling shelves offering over half a million books, even a comic collection(yay!). Art is also on display, and there are music events, poetry and book readings on the main floor during which the huge book racks on wheels are moved to allow a stage area and space for rows of seating and dancing. Crafted Beers are available during events for a donation but be prepared to drink from an upside down can so they can add the empties to the 1000 plus opened from the bottom beer can collection on display high up on walls all around on shelves. Come in and say hi to Eddie the owner who is usually here as well as the very helpful staff. The historical building it is located in what used to be one of the tobacco warehouses that many locals worked in. Just east of highway 61 and close to the Main Street shopping area and Driftless Café. DBM is also online, at Amazon, Facebook, EBay, shipping daily goodies if you are stuck in the snow, or far away, and will soon have a spanking new website. I guess I kind of like the place, lol, indeed!

Eddie(interesting, helpful cat…) runs a terrific, extremely expansive used book store in a historic, charming old brick building in quaint downtown Viroqua. One needs several hours, maybe even days, to thoroughly explore this hidden gem off Main Street. Long live The Driftless Center for Slow Media at Forgotten Works Warehouse! This has to be one of the largest used book collections I’ve ever seen, and big surprise for this small town. Viroqua(pop. 4362) is located just south of LaCrosse, WI and it has a number of very interesting businesses on or near its historic downtown Main Street. This bookstore is a few blocks off Main Street. The former warehouse contains between 250 – 500,000 used books. That is a broad range, but it’s a direct quote from the owner. After wandering around a bit here, I can see why doing inventory might be a tedious task. But perhaps a good way to pass winter in Southwest Wisconsin. A friend and I did a rather whirlwind tour, so I need to go back on my own for some real serious browsing. The owner has made many trips and bought out entire collections from other vendors and smaller bookstores around the country, and seems like a real interesting chap. If you want to find some hard covers in good shape at a good price, come and check in out. All I can say it seems like a book lover’s cathedral. So come and worship soon.
