Ordered carry out for lunch and picked it up at the drive-thru window. Order was prompt and service was friendly. I ordered the breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. It was huge and thick but it was nearly flavorless. I also ordered fries and all I got was the crispy leftovers from the bottom of the fryer. My counterpart ordered a burger that was a hot mess, hastily dumped in a box with no side order. Cost: $ 14.50. Analysis: over-priced, sloppy preparation/presentation. Better off grabbing Subway from across the street for $ 6.

I at at the Depot yesterday and I agree with Mary E J. on the darkness but it’s just the dark wood from the 1970s style paneling. The restaurant is very clean but… GOFORTHEHOMEMADETENDERLOIN!!! I’ve only had one other as good in my life… it’s a 12 on a 1 – 10 scale… and I’m not a big tenderloin fan about 2 a year… This tenderloin is not a foot across and as big as a plate… those have meat as thin as a sheet of paper but this has about ¾″ thickness of the meat… My friend had the buffalo and said it was good too… I’ve eaten here on a off since 1988 and it’s always been good… Go get the homemade tenderloin… GRW…

Really wanted to rate this at 4 stars: Conveniently located between Il Hwys. 78 and 125, the only real restaurant in town(there’s a Subway and a coffee shop that serves soups and sands.) and some of the food is really very good. Best bet: Hand breaded Tenderloins, fried chicken on certain days/nights and Friday’s Walleye or Catfish fillets. The homemade desserts as well as some really good soft served icecream. * A regional dish, the Horseshoe, consists of toast, choice of meat on top, topped with fries and covered with cheese sauce. Variations: Poneyshoe(smaller version), Donkeyshoe-with chili and the Breakfast shoe. Why I didn’t rate it 4: Rest of the menu that I have had in the last few trips to Virginia were dissapointing. The taco salad had barely any meat, a breakfast shoe I was looking forward to as I hadn’t had one in years, had one hard egg and the other one, the whites were runny, when the eggs were suppose to be scrambled. Plus it wasn’t hot. The older side of the restaurant doesn’t «feel» clean. Service depends on the server. Owner is often there and friendly. Overall, I would recommend it.
