Went to pick up a moving truck that we had reserved a couple days before and they ended up giving it to someone who called in 30 minutes before we got there. They didn’t even apologize.

This location wrongfully requests DODID numbers for military members that have state driver licenses that do not expire per their own states’ regulations for being active duty military. Company policy requires they verify you have a valid drivers license which by common sense would mean they should also verify active duty status of the member if the drivers license states such is required. When I provided my mil ID(employee held it in his own hand) I stated my issue with them requesting information beyond verifying the exp date of the mil ID itself. At least one of the older guys here is retired military and was just choosing to be difficult once I voiced my concern over them attempting to copy down identifying information from the mil ID. They decided if I wanted to keep the information(beyond the exp date) on my Military ID private they didn’t want to rent me a Uhaul which is fine I guess but what they don’t understand is that certain information on a military ID should not be given out to commercial businesses. There are lists with senior military members identifying info out there on the Internet that terrorist organizations have published linking service members’ names, addresses and family information. Why in my right mind would I provide an unneeded DODID number to Uhaul which would identify me in their system as active duty military? I don’t trust their rinky dink system that can’t even remember I prepaid for a mattress protector online when making the trailer reservation. This place is run by a couple old crotchety retired dudes just looking to bow up on current service members. I hope someone in the Uhaul corporate office of the Norfolk area or whatever region sees this and at least educates their employees not to hassle the local military and also how to correctly verify a current active duty id without infringing on that member’s private information. Also, I took my business to another Uhaul location where I was upfront with the clerk about my concern of them copying info off the ID and she nicely responded«all I’ll need is the expiration date off it.» Who would’ve thought?! Thank you ma’am at the 664 Woodlake Dr, Chesapeake location, you get 5 stars! PS — You can tell by reading the other reviews of this place that the guys have a chip on their shoulder and tend to be rude to customers. The experience was no different for me I guess. Totally unnecessary though considering I actually gave the guy my ID for him to look at the exp date!

Joe is the coolest uhaul rep I’ve ever encountered. He was helpful, funny and left me and my husband with an overall sense of satisfaction. I highly recommend this location! (Ask for Joe!)

Scheduled a truck yesterday for 9:00 am. I go in to pick it up and the manager tells me my reservation is for 4:30. I ask for another truck locally. He doesn’t look and tells me there is nothing. Horrible service.

Lousy, lousy, lousy service. I made an appt to have a hitch put on my car on Friday afternoon at 3PM. I show up and they tell me the mechanic went home for the day and they dont do hitch installations at 3PM in the afternoon. I tell the guy behind the counter… I called you 2 hrs ago to see if you wanted me to come in early. The guy on the phone tells me, no, come in at 3 as scheduled and we will take care of. Needless to say, I wont be back to this UHAUL…
