So this place is a gem in VA beach. The chef Dexter has flavorful food and deserves top notch compliments. You would not be disappointed. Now yes some things need to be updated; time schedule and extra information. But once becoming a patron of this establishment; you will realize the high quality of culinary sophistication and décor. Give this place a chance… big tings ah g’wan(in my Trini voice)

For the first time my wife and I decided to visit and support this establishment. It was yesterday at 8:00 on A Saturday night. There was absolutely no hospitality. The place was completely empty and a bald headed guy stared at us from the kitchen. We stood in the middle of the floor and then he said, be there… Really? We walked up towards the bar, took a menu and sat ourselves in the dining area. I girl came out from the back and said, I’ll be there. We waited another 5 minutes, no music playing, no drinks. Is was a bust ! This place won’t last long, trust and believe. We headed to Bahamas Breeze in Town Center.

After reading the reviews on here I wasn’t so sure about this place! I went to check out this restaurant called spades. When I heard the name I immediately thought of a place where individuals played the game spades. Yet that was not the case. I walked in and met my party there. As soon as I walking I noticed the how open the layout was. There were maybe 25 to 30 people inside all spread out. The party I was with already had a booth so we sat down and waited for someone to come to the table. Granted it was around 745 pm there was only one bartender and one person«waiting» on tables. The reviews said that there was a full stacked bar. Yet when I asked for a Cabernet Sav. they only had Merlot.(Eh ok!) It took the bartender approximately 15 minutes to walk over to our table. There was dance music playing in the background. It was not too loud for while. I could hear the rest of my party. We did not have to talk over the music. Finally I get my glass of wine! Then I ask for a menu, The gentleman who is from Trinidad said that there wasn’t menu. He did proceed to tell us what the specials were. They were fried shrimp and French fries, Chicken wings and fries, and fried fish and French fries. Wow! not to many choices. I was not impressed at all. When the food came out we did not have any silverware nor extra napkins. I had the fried shrimp and French fries, and my friend had the wings and fries. My friend said the wings weren’t that good they were a little cold. The shrimp was pretty good though. Then the bartender came back to our table and I asked her what happened to the menu I saw on Unilocal?Did they discontinue the menu. She proceeded to tell me that they rent out the kitchen to some Haitians who make the Caribbean food. SO, I asked if we could possibly get that cause I was not full from the 5 shrimp and French fries. Therefore the bartender went to get the Lady who made the Caribbean food. After speaking with the lady about what she makes we wanted to try the legume plate with crab. Oh my Goodness! It was very tasty. My friend and I were puzzled as to why the restaurant was not pushing this food? In all this place has the potential to be a decent restaurant yet it lacks a lot right now. I hope they can get it together soon.

Spades!!! I’m so gamed for this restaurant! So deserving of 5 stars!!! A friend of mine ate here about a month ago and raved about the affordable dinner and happy hour specials. But I didn’t think… I wanna go. I just said ummmm ok. On one of the local stations, Ive heard this spot advertised, but again it wasn’t convincing. Nevertheless, I ended up here Saturday night(process of elimination). And boy… was I pleased!!! I was surprisingly«wowed»…like totally!!! I walked up and saw people carrying in items I thought… ummmm whats going on? Then I saw a few people sitting(self made seats) outisde the restaurant. I was like ummmmm nevermind. But my guest said it’s cool. It was very cool!!! I was relieved to know a baby shower was in progress on one side of the restaurant. So that explained why certain items were brought into the restuarant heheehehe. Now the people sitting on the outside, still unsure about that. But eventually they came in and joined the baby shower. Welp enough about a first impression… I had my brow raised, but as we approached the bar(another couple already dining there) the bartender, Joy greeted us cheerfully. She was cute and her soothing voice kinda eased my concerns I had upon entering. Thank you Joy!!! From 6 – 8 they offer happy hour $ 5 top shelf drinks, $ 3(I think) well drinks and $ 2(I think) drafts… no food deals, but the drink deal is fantastic! I did find out– only on Thursdays they offer wings and shrimp as apart of the happy hour specials. I had my share of drinks… happy hour was very happy for us! :) Dinner time… They offer small and large portions. Now I can’t imagine what the large portion consists of, but I ordered the small curry chicken with cabbage and yellow rice, and this was plllllllllllllllenty!(your entre includes 2 sides) The food was filling and so so good!!! I didn’t know I would enjoy it sooooooooooooo much!!! The meat super tender. The meat did not have too many bones. The cabbage seasoned just right. The yellow rice… ummmmm it couldve used a lil help. Nevertheless, the curry sauce helped it. Therefore, no real complaint there! I ate dinner about 730pm and I was full for the rest of the night. My guest had the jerk chicken with cabbage and mac n cheese. Of course I tried it too… the jerk chicken tasted like BBQ chicken(just a lil bit tho). We brought it to Joy’s attention, but she said they grill the chicken so that may have been why I could taste a smoky flavoring. But it was seasoned just right. My nose wasnt running overwhelmingly because of the jerk so that was a good thing! The mac n cheese… ummmmm it wasnt up to par to my liking, but my guest ate it all :) Overall, please try this restuarant. I believe they have been opened a year if that. Ample parking… it’s located in a shopping center. Therefore, if you eat too much you can walk it off. When we arrived only one couple was there, and the party was going on… seperate from the dining area. But after about 30minutes other patrons started coming in… ordering take out! This is always a good sign. An empty restuarant definitely raises a brow IMO! They play music as well. I think they werent playing it as much because of the baby shower but we requested to hear some tunes… Joy made it happen! I did visit the restroom… super clean!!! That’s another plus!!! No water was around the sink… no overflowing trashcan… and it smelled pleasant as well. Tissue stocked and paper towels… hands free unit! Despite my concerns upon entering and a few other hiccups, this place is a definite winner! I will be back. I will aim to go on a Thursday to try out the wings and shrimp for happy hour! Another gentleman kept peeking in on us to make sure we were good and we rest assured all was good. He may of been the owner… he looked important hehehehe… Kudos…keep on keepin on!!! Have fun :)

The best jerk chicken I have had. I mean the food and service is amazing. Great portions, great prices. Best in town. The meat — tender and well seasoned, and the sides — out of this world. Booom, get there and get full quick.

This establishment could be descent but, it lacks taste, style and most importantly, good food. Upon first walking in, my wife and I were greeted by some kid lying on a lounge sofa talking on his cell. Not professional! Then, the other staff members were hanging at the makeshift«bar area» and seemed more interested in Instagram than greeting and seating us. This place makes me really hate«black owned» places because they’re so half-assed. Food was a$$ when we did get it and the lounge is set up like a lounge bar, not a bar/grill. Jerk taste like straight barbecue and fried chicken was weak too. I make better at home! Yams were out the can and cabbage looked old and dark(couldnt even try it). Overall, this place SUCKS! I can think of better ways to spend my money than this place. If this place is to last, DJ Jack of Spades is gonna have to make some serious changes. Drop the hood isht!

Portion sizes were great! Main dishes and sides were all delicious. Ox tails were big and meaty! Fried chicken is awesome. Curry is perfect blend of flavor and spice. Very clean inside. My family is from St. Thomas and my wife is from Puerto Rico. My wife and I have been searching for a long time for a Caribbean restaurant. WEFOUNDIT!
