I went to Office Max this evening to purchase some supplies for my new home office including a new office chair, and I have never met someone so rude as the lady in front. I had already picked the chair out that I wanted and went up front to ask the woman for some help. I told her that I needed an office chair and her immediate retort was, «Shoot! You’ve GOT to be kidding me!!!» She then marched me over and said, which one do you want, and I pointed to the office chair I picked out. That one in black please. She scanned it and was told me it was in stock. She then scanned the top shelves, and asked me if I knew where it was. Um lady, I don’t work here, you do. Despite that fact, I proceed to walk the aisle looking for the right box. When I did finally find it, I went back to get the woman but she had already left and had started helping someone else. I then went to the back to talk to the printer woman for help and she just paged the woman out front. The woman’s response was that she was busy with customers. HELLO! I was a customer first! I was so pissed from the lack of service, I grabbed my boyfriend, we dropped all our supplies in a pile, and I left to give someone else my business. I was able to get my office chair, and with a smile! Don’t go to this store if you are looking for assistance of any kind.

I went to this office a few minutes before closing to complete a few business/administrative tasks: download a file and print it, then after it was signed, scanning it and sending it back to the originator. The employee who works this area, Patricia, helped me get it all done in 3 minutes, without any drama or complaint. Skilled, helpful, and efficient — this was a great experience and quite a contrast to my experience with a competitor with the same tasks. Bravo, Patricia!

This review is specifically for the printing department. I just watched a poor woman get increasingly frustrated for 20 minutes, that’s right I watched another customer for 20 minutes because both employees didn’t know how to print just two pages from a multi-page PDF file. I was finally helped because the woman left to go to Kinko’s. The staff did not know how to tell me what size my PDF file was. So I showed them how to do that. They couldn’t accommodate the size that I needed for my poster and didn’t offer me any solutions so I started to use my calculator to find out if we could scale it to fit their specifications and this woman tapped her pen at me the whole time I was trying to help myself at their counter. So I left and I will also be going to Kinko’s.

Office Max Hilltop I’ve been here a lot. Mostly to purchase ink. Why oh why is printer ink so darn expensive??? I buy it and then I try to use it as little as possible. Ink buying tips: Purchase the brand name for your printer. Why? Store and discount brands only have to fill the recycled cartridges they use about 80% to sell it. I’ve decided that isn’t much of a discount. Buy XL! The cartridge cost almost twice as much, but you get more that twice as many pages.(they pump a lot more ink into the sponge in the cartridge. I personally only get XL black because that is what works with my finances. Buy the inks packaged CMY or CMYK for a discount! Calculate it yourself. There is a savings there I have found the staff at this location to be very helpful. When I purchased an office chair a while back they saved me from assembly. I was able to get the floor model which had been very recently assembled and they took it out to the car for me. They have been happy to answer all of my questions regarding ink, products and services. When I wanted to order business cards I felt that I received very personal service. All of my questions were answered in great detail and I came back later that week to order cards. I have a MaxPerks account and I get a $ 2 credit for every ink cartridge I recycle here.
