North Landing Beach RV Resort & Cottages

The good…
They are renovating and updating a lot of the facility. New sites going in and adding more kid activities. A year or so down the line we may come back or at least see how much has changed. The beach area would be perfect if we had little kids. If the tide is out elsewhere, the water level of the ICW is very low. They would be able to have a huge area of shallow water to play in. Like we are talking at my knee height or less. Also we found staff to be very nice.
The bad…
They really need to consider spraying for mosquitos. I have bites on top of bites. I’m amazed I don’t have North, South, East and West Nile all at once. Horrible. Off, Cutter, dryer sheets and bug zappers did NOTHING! And once bitten these bad boys didn’t stop itching the whole week we were here. Normally I don’t have that issue. These were skeeters on steroids!!!
Also its a very quiet campground. You would expect to see peoplr staying up a bit later or kids playing and riding bikes and stuff at night. My daughter said it felt like an adults only campground. She is 10. Also would have to go out into the water at least 100 yds before she could really swim because the water is SO shallow.

Facilities are clean, location is good (love the beach) and renovations are in progress. So much here to take in.
Having said that, our experience was miserable due to insects. All the bug spray in the world couldn’t protect my family. My dog couldn’t get comfortable, either.
It’s a shame, really, but don’t see us coming back because of all the bugs.

This place used to be awesome. Have been going here for years. Even though the campgrounds are mediocre it has a nice beach. No fish though. Now under new management the prices have gone up while nothing has changed. And the office people are rude as can be. And the cashiers in the store are slow and rude and seemingly unintelligent. We used to go here about once a month from may to September and a few times in fall. Not going back.

My family has camped here several times and we love it. All of the sites are well maintained and clearly marked. The bathhouses are clean. The employees are nice and helpful. My only complaint is that the reservation office is ran out of Oregon. My husband and I showed up at the front office to try and get a reservation and was told that they could not make the reservation there and that he would have to call the Oregon office which is 3 hours behind Virginia.

I was anxious about this place while driving three hours to get here. I made a reservation in April to stay here from Thursday to Sunday, my friend and I rented a cabin on the water, we chose this place because it’s close to VA Beach. Welllll, it might be close geographically, but not if roads are concerned. But, we learned about Sandbridge Beach from the North landing Beach Campground & RV Resort website and we LOVED Sandbridge Beach! So that worked out perfectly. The staff was 100% polite, helpful, and pleasant. The other patrons were possibly a little country, but polite, sweet, neighbors. Thursday it was silent. Much more crowded Friday and Saturday night, be we had no noise issues despite going to bed around 9 and 10pm. We rented a tandem kayak for $ 10, it was a lot of fun! The canal was beautiful! The beach at the campground was nice. The cabin was very clean, as well as the grounds around the cabin. I just can’t believe how well our trip went. I don’t know why this place doesn’t have better overall reviews. It’s located about 20 driving minutes from Sandbridge Beach, which was a nice distance — not too far. I will be making this trip an annual event! My only relatively minor complaints is the bathroom door in the cabin wasn’t as private as you’d like. But I do a lot of backpacking so I got over that quickly. I would recommend that other cabin guests bring a bath mat for the restroom, a runner to lay between the beds and leading to the restroom, insect candles, and a shoe mat for outside the cabin.
I love this place!

Unfortunately we had a horrible experience at North Landing.
The day started OK — though the campgrounds were too close together, and there was little to no privacy. At around 1am there was a severe thunderstorm that the Weather Station said was capable of producing a tornado. We hurriedly packed up all our gear and drove away. Almost everyone at the campground was leaving as well. As we left, there were fires on the side of the road (caused by lightning strikes) and downed branches and power lines. No staff were visible at this time, and we even had to drive around the resort gate which was locked shut.
We were scheduled to stay another night, but I called to cancel. I just now got off the phone with 3 members of the staff including a Manager and a General Manager.
Not one of the 3 staff members would give us a refund. We only asked to refund ONE of the nights — as I felt a two-​night refund unfair. I understand not issuing a refund for an «uncomfortable night» — but one that is «unsafe»? I tried to impress upon the GM the extreme nature of the situation, but she would not agree to a refund. I think this was a very poor business decision on the part of North Landing — and therefore I cannot recommend this as a place to spend your money.

My family has camped here twice. I’ve had great luck getting info on the phone, one time by leaving a message and having someone call back. We are about to reserve our third trip for this coming summer and are looking forward to it. I’ve never reserved online, only over the phone, so I can’t speak to how the website functions in that respect.
Every campground has the potential to have rowdy guests. Last year we definitely encountered it, and wished we had done something about it. That party left on our second day, so we weren’t bothered for the rest of our trip.
It is nice to have water activities so close to the campsite, looking at their website, you’ll find they have sites far and close to the water. The closer you are, the more activity you are subject to. So, if you prefer a quiet site, book yours further from the water.
I especially enjoy the fact that they have firewood to purchase, and fresh hot coffee in the mornings up at their check in office.
Keep in mind this is not the ocean, rather part of a river system, but that doesn’t stop the kids from having a blast in the sand and water. Bring your buckets and shovels!
There are areas to wash your dishes, and we utilize it by bringing our own scrub brushes and soap.
My kids like the movie nights they have to give them a break from the campsite. Both visits, we made a little day trip out of going to VA Beach, which is relatively close, too.
Overall we’ve been quite pleased with our visits there!
