The staff is awesome and Dr. McDermott rocks! I can’t say enough good things about this place. I love the updated look too.

I usually come here for my yearly physical for work but this time I had to come for an actual emergency. They treated my daughter well, were prompt and when they realized they wouldn’t be able to help us they got us the paperwork we needed and sent us to where they thought we needed to be — CHKD. What surprised me the most was the after care — Dr. McDermott and his nurse called me the next day to check in and see how my daughter was doing, which completely surprised me but was very appreciated.

The clinic is helmed by one doctor who considers himself an entrepreneur. He is the only male there and maintains a stable of female nurse practitioners with unknown levels of experience. I have gone several times for various reasons because they were close to home and I didn’t need an appointment. On the last occasion, I went to discuss insomnia and anxiety, and refill an Rx. After a friendly nurse took my vitals, a short, middle aged woman in a lab coat walked briskly into the exam room. She did not introduce herself, ask me about my condition or chief complaint, she did not assess me and did not make eye contact. Instead, she read me the riot act for taking anti-anxiety meds. Bear in mind, I had not over-used them or asked for an early refill, and it was the only controlled medication I routinely use, Resteril, At this clinic, they routinely investigate their patients prescription history, they search the state database of C-II and C-III drugs to see if someone is doctor shopping or over-prescribed controlled substances. For some reason, they are hyper sensitive about this topic. Irregardless I was well within the margins and used my supply as prescribed, which was quickly confirmed. Apparently, this woman does not check her facts and holds people to her own bizarre standards, its obvious her priorities mixed-up. Bear in mind, I had never met this woman before, I must assume she was a nurse practitioner but she did not introduce herself at any point. She did not ask me how I was, showed no compassion or empathy, or run down the usual diagnostic questions. She just laid into me with her hyper vigilant and judgmental mindset, the kind people with lower IQ’s employ to mask their inability to think for themselves and hide the empty void where common sense should reside. She quipped that I was taking too many controlled substances. I take one! She created and caused my anxiety levels to spike while I tried to figure out what the heck was happening and why I was being demeaned and maligned by someone I had never met before. In the end, she wrote me a prescription to refill the medication I requested. People like her are common in medicine. They are self-righteous and subjugate others who are diminished and struggling. They don’t seem to care that putting patients under more duress worsens the patients condition. These are my opinions based on personal experience and the application of Occam’s Razor, a problem-solving principle. Simplified, the law of parsimony is this: Out of the various choices the answer with the fewest assumptions is most likely correct. Humans are reliably predictable, we choose to ignore the past in a vain hope it will not repeat, which it inevitably does.

Here on vacation and found this place via Unilocal. It used to be doctors on call, and was the only area urgent care with good reviews. My father had an eye infection. I admit I was skeptical since we passed a shiny new urgent care on the way there… and this place was in an old bldg that looked well past it’s prime, but the wait was reasonable, and the doctor spent a long time with us to treat the problem. The meds he gave my dad cleared up the infection within 24 hours, and a nurse even called us 2 days later to checkin! I only wish this place was where we live so we could use again for urgent care needs.
