The raw bar menu is nice, however when it comes to the fried menu, if I’m going to be paying $ 16.99 for pan fried oysters, I expect them to be pan fried, not deep fried. To have management lie about how they’re prepared was also rather unpleasant. 2 stars for the raw menu, and restaurant parking.

Came two nights in a row. Food is good. Servers are friendly. Can bring kids but it’s more for adults than anything.

We went there on a Monday night. As a matter of fact, I am writing this while I am here. First, we waited for an hour for our food. The place was not busy at all. We only ordered 2 kid’s meal and the special 59c oysters. Other tables that came after us got their food way before us. I don’t know if the waiter or kitchen screwed up? We ordered lightly steamed oysters and it came out over cooked. Told the waiter and he said they can redo our order, but we were starving to death and didn’t want to wait another hr for our food. I’ll never go back! The waiter said it was the cook, he doesn’t know why she’s still there. I told our waiter he should let the manager know about the food and the long wait for 2 kids meal and steam oysters, he said he did when he spoke w the cook while the manager was right there. But the manager never came out to talk to us. Very disappointed!

Mediocre food, terrible service and a plethora of cockroaches. I would recommend this place to people I do not care for.

I will first start off by saying there customer service was awesome. We where able to walk in and get a seat. We sat outside and had dinner. The crab dip was very tasty and its served with tortilla chips. We had raw clams on the half shell. I had the seafood platter broiled and it was seasoned to the T. That’s came with fish, shrimp, oyster and clams 2 sides and hush puppies. The stuff shrimp with crabmeat was greAt.

This place is fantastic! We ordered the Thai Tuna appetizer, we made a special cooking request, and they totally came through even though they said they usually aren’t supposed to do what we asked. The seafood platter was amazing! We also made a special preparation request, and they did it even though they aren’t normally supposed to. Also, they have the best key lime pie I’ve ever had! Great food, great location, amazing service. This place is great!

My wife and I were exploring the beach restaurant’s and decided on this place. We very much enjoyed the food but we were hoping for a place named«oyster bar» to have a few types and styles of oysters but all they had was Rockefeller and raw. It was a bummer but the food and service was good.

‘Poon’s is a divey little bar with a large selection of seafood and the best happy hour on the boardwalk. They have four drafts for $ 1 each; that’s just impossible to beat. I visited twice during a recent trip to Virginia Beach. The service is prompt and courteous. I really got the feeling that the people who work here love their jobs. The beer and selection is weighted towards the cheaper, mass-produced varietals, but the prices justify this. The sign over the counter window says that the kitchen is always open, and that certainly seemed the case when I ordered a bacon cheeseburger at 1:00AM. I took a gamble and had it cooked rare, but this paid off when I found myself eating an absolutely delicious meal. The customers seem mainly to be locals, but we tourists felt right at home. This is a great place to meet people, drink beer and have food.

We weren’t sure what to expect based on Unilocal reviews, but this joint was close to our hotel. When we walked in no one acknowledged us do we sat ourselves. We finally asked a bus boy for a server. He was friendly enough, but misunderstood our order. He brought crab soup instead of crab dip. We appreciate his error, it was incredible! The crab dip we ordered was excellent, hot dip in the bottom and roughly ¾ cup of fresh picked crab meat. The nachos are pretty good, we loved the mounds of jalapeños! I had an ok margarita, but they didn’t put any salt on the rim. We’ll go back again.

The service was good and the beers were cold if lacking in choices. The food was mediocre to okay. No one in my 9 person group had any desire to ever come back. I only ate one of my two crab cakes and had no desire to take the second one with me for later. The fried pickles were good and the waffle fries are better than the regular fries.

I’ve been here a couple of times in the last several months. They have excellent seafood, great service, and THEBESTCRABCAKES I’VEEVERHAD!!! It doesn’t matter whether you’re a huge Grouper fan, seriously into seared Tuna, looking for the best Hushpuppies on the Eastern Seaboard, a lover of outstanding She Crab Soup, or looking for excellent Chicken and Dumplings, this is definitely the place to be anywhere in the Hampton Roads area.(Don’t mistake it for Harpoon Larry’s in Newport News; Virginia Beach is THE one to goto!) They also have an excellent Raw Bar that is long on quality and fairly priced.(I’ve watched as they keep the most clean and sanitary Raw Bars I’ve seen yet!) As far as the service goes, they seem to have a tradition of hiring people who really want to be there, and service with a warm welcome and smile are always on tap. I’ve seen this from many of the staff both in front of, and behind, the bar. Ask if Brianna is available; she is certainly a top pick!(Bri handles large groups like a pro!) However, you should get warm, attentive service from anyone in the place. Finally, the locals know this as a favourite watering hole. It has a tonne of local charm and laid-back feel. While they can get you in and out quickly if you need it, they specialize in being a comfortable place to relax, enjoy great food, and partake in warm conversations in an unpretentious atmosphere. And remember, you HAVE to try the Crab Cakes!!! Oh, and they Key Lime Pie is a masterpiece of just the right blend of sweet and tart; this has got to be tried — even if taken to go!!! Edit: Brianna is no long there. Minus a star.

Garlic Parmesan wings Most delicious thing ever! UNBELIEVABLE! Best wings I’ve EVER had. And I eat TONS of wings everywhere. Bar– b — cue wings are good but completely overshadowed by the garlic Parmesan wings. Caesar salad — great, fresh Greek salad — wonderful, no Big chunks of feta, cucumber and tomato — nice blend 1lb snow crabs were phenomenal too — fresh and delicious Dozen oysters — super fresh Crab soup — fantastic — at first seemed too floury but then there were huge chunks of crab — it was delicious

4 stars for the ambiance and prices– This is a fun bar that has great character. It’s a little touristy with the typical selection of Virginia Beach souvenir swag but that’s no problem. I love the fact that there is PBR on tap and a full liquor bar. Service was definitely slow but something tells me that’s just how they run the bar. Food looked really good and the prices were pretty fair. Inside and outside seating is nice. I would definitely go back and try a few menu items

Went here with my man last night. Overall, the food is a 4, service is 3.5 and the ambience is a 4 out of 5 stars. We waited outside for 5 minutes before we were invited to the bar and wait more… Another 20 minutes passed we were seated outside. We start with raw oyster, and calamari, my husband ordered soft shell crab and I went with the stuffed mahi. I ordered dirty Martini and my love got Rum and coke. Total is $ 120.00

This place has its own parking, and outdoor seating. We came here with a very large group and the waitstaff was accommodating! Did it take a little longer for the food to be delivered, sure, but our drinks were always taken care of and we were constantly checked on. We were here during the day, so I don’t have any comments on the night life and how well the bar is. Food was surprisingly good and the portions were appropriate. I would definitely eat here again. Oh, and dogs are welcome on the outside patio. .:)

Best dive bar on the Oceanfront. I can’t understand why people rate it so low. The bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers will change your life.

Love this place! We only went there for drinks, but it was great. The environment is chill and the drink specials are incredible. $ 2 Bloody Mary Sundays? Ok! I’m not a big fireball girl, but for $ 4, ok! We stayed here for a couple of hours and drank before heading to the beach. I’d do it again and will probably make this the first stop when we go back to Virginia Beach

Let’s start of with the Oysters for only 59cents each! WoW what a deal lol here is why. The oysters were not cleaned properly, there was still sand in a few of the half shells. Even worst I found dead sand crabs, in 2 of the half shells. You must eat the half Selves Asap *NOTSERVEDONICE* The Calamari was trash extremely small & the texture was off. The Marinara Sauce was way toooooo thick. Buffalo Chicken Wrap was ok, nothing out of this world, on the same level as a Mcdonalds wrap. The atmosphere & décor screams local spot all the way … Dim lighting inside, with a outdoor seating area. Our waitress was cool & helpful, but the food was a damn Disappointment!

I found myself a table about 5 minutes before«happy hour» ended but my waitress didn’t arrive until right on the dot of 7:00. Sadly, it was too late for a cheap beer. Rules are rules and they are enforced by the computer. Unfortunate. I ordered a half pound of steamed shrimp to start and they arrived pretty quickly. Heavily caked in Old Bay and ready to be peeled, they had not been deveined. Is this a difficult thing for machinery to do if they’re already removing the heads of the shrimp? I’m not a fan of digesting what the shrimp is still digesting, so this put me off a little bit. Maybe that’s the regular way seafood places do things, but some of these shrimp had clearly just finished a big meal before they became my own dinner. For main, a crispy fried flounder dish with steamed veggies and mac & cheese. The staff seemed extremely and unusually concerned that it was taking a long while for my meal to arrive(could they have seen me using the Unilocal app?) and so I was asked if I would like a free crab dip while I waited. Sure. Crab dip was excellent. Hot cheese on the bottom, shredded crab on top, with a big pile of multi-colored tortilla chips for dipping. I know Scooby will be upset with this wonton use of crab meat, but who am I to say no to free appetizers? Ordinarily, this would be enough for two people, but I did some damage to it on my own. Finally my main course arrived and if I’d been paying attention, yes, it might have been a good delay. But I was distracted by a free crab appetizer and my phone was working really well and the second(not happy hour) beer was dulling my time senses. Good sized piece of flounder that was battered and blackened. Quite tasty on it’s own though a bit dry, some of the cheesy sauce from my mac & cheese put right to that. It was good, though I don’t know that I’d have this particular meal again. Hush puppies were excellent. Light and fluffy and maybe a little sweet. This was the highlight of the platter. Very casual dining with the noise from the loud bunch at the bar(do you really have to howl like a dog every time the bell is rung, you idiot?) but the table area was nice especially if you sat by the window.
