As good as it gets among the Princess Anne County/Sandbridge local Va Beach farmers. Bi-color corn early in the summer, then maybe six different varieties of sweet corn, usually starting in early July and running through the middle of August. As the summer progresses, it seems that each variety gets sweeter and sweeter. All types of tomatoes are available throughtout the summer(they seem to really love growing Heirlooms, and boy, are they good), as well as melons, peaches, beets, squash, kale, a couple of varieties of peas — and this year, even cauliflower! The only thing you won’t find is strawberries, which is just fine because it seems the whole of Pungo is planted in strawberries every year. If you don’t want to drive to Sandbridge, Cromwell’s participates heavily in the Old Beach Farmer’s Market, which is open every Saturday morning during the summer at Croc’s restaurant, corner of 19th and Arctic. This is usually a little more convenient for me, but I really prefer to visit the farm itself, to make sure I’m not missing anything! Stop at Cromwell’s once, and you’ll never again visit your favorite grocery store’s produce department during the summer.
