Chowboy Republic

Looked on Unilocal for a great burger and Unilocal delivered. Of course a few very poor reviews scared me at first until I read them and realized that most were because Chowboy didn’t roll out the red carpet for your kids. I considered this a plus and was nice not listening to a tablet full volume playing the Wiggles for once. I ordered the egg and avocado burger and it was perfect. The waffle fries were actually really good and I was glad I didn’t substitute for another side. I was there around 8pm on a Saturday and it seemed to get fairly crowded. It appeared to be a good place to meet new people. I will return.

We met some friends here for dinner last night. When we arrived they had already gotten a table so we didn’t get to see if there was a wait. The place is long and narrow and there aren’t a ton of seats but it is has a very nice look and feel. We started off with fried pickles and a special oyster type soup (it wasn’t a soup but can’t remember what it was called). I don’t like pickles at all but was pleasantly surprised at them. The oyster «soup» was awesome. For my dinner I had the Wahoo which was one of the specials. I must say I was very impressed with it. My wife had the NY Strip and she said it was ok. She is a big Filet person so she usually doesn’t eat anything but that. I tried it and thought it had a very good flavor. Our friends had the Rib Eye special and they said it was very good. The waitress was very good and came over to check on us frequently. Overall an excellent experience.

Excellent food and fantastic service. Would definitely recommend it! I had the chili with jalapeño cornbread and my husband the special, rib eye steak with chipotle mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus.

I have been meaning to try Chowboys, after hearing such great things about this restaurant.
I went there with my Son, and they lived up to al the accolades. I had one of the best fresh tuna sandwiches I have ever had. My Son’s steak was excellent too. The service was friendly, professional, and efficient.
The décor, and all the attention to details from the menu, tableware, and the check presenter reflect that this Owner is a real pro.
I can’t wait to come back.

A few of my friends were craving a burger, so we decided to check this place out. The place was fairly small, but fortunately they had a round table big enough to seat my party. The servers were super nice! Since all our friends were getting burgers, my fiancé and I decided to get something else. Andrew got the prime rib sandwich, and I ordered the brisket. The brisket was a little too dry for me, but the prime rib sandwich was really good! Luckily Andrew loves me, so we ended up switching meals. The waffle fries were also delicious. Next time, I would definitely try a burger!

Came in on a Friday night with my girlfriend for a drink and appetizer, First off what bar thats a «cowboy» themed bar does not have bottled beer (bar tender stated the owner thinks people will brake them in the bar), But he serves simi chilled can beer and at Strip club prices? Brisket sushi was not good at all, very fatty and just plan bad. …Bartender was just out right RUDE! She was more worried about her phone and talking to other servers. And the owner seemed to just be worried about catering to his group of friends. One lady at the end of the bar was so waisted and the bartender kept serving her, not very responsible if you ask me.
Save your money unless you want overpriced can beer and small drinks with bad food to boot!
WOW. update 10 hours after I posted my honest review. owner of Cowboys Republic Kris T. just sent me a Message thru Unilocal…(Thanks «for coming in» which I doubt you did. Take your fake ass bs somewhere else. Adiós muchscho !) He needs to learn to spell !
Folks avoid this place and give you hard earned money to establishments that provided good service, drink and food. Not rude owner and bad bartenders.

I am always looking for a good lamb shank and last night they blew me away. When you experience your umame (may be spelt wrong). All I could think of was the dish I was eating. The tenderness of the lamb the fresh green beans cooked to El dente perfection. Took me out of that chair to my childhood dinner watching that lamb cook all day and the smell of a good meal to come fill your home. The gentleman beside me had the shrimp and grits and it disappeared with delight and a longing for more. But after watching me transform he will be having the lamb shank. A local place open in the evenings. Despite the bad reviews get a babysitter and give this joint a chance.

Have tried this place twice now… I’ll start with the good… Cool atmosphere for having a few overpriced beers. That’s it for good… Bad… Brisket is awful! Tried it in a appetizer called brisket sushi … Don’t waste your money… Is all I can say.: ordered prime rib sandwich… Ordered medium … Came out well done and was 50% fat… Tried there burger… Was good but over cooked as well… Owner is rude. And acts like he’s doing you a favor by letting you eat at his restaurant… Also they don’t have high chairs and do t like kids being in there. They made that very clear to us when we brought our 2 year old there for a early 5:00 dinner… Will not be going back. Or back to flip flops his other restaurant

It could be a $$$, but there is some fantastic $$ food there. The waffle fries are perfect. Had the ranch hand burger, cooked perfectly with solid bacon. Mashed potatoes were darn good and the blackberry Chipotle bbq sauce goes good on everything. Unique bbq sauce but it is phenomenal. The whole place puts out a solid, comfortable vibe too.

I added Chowboy Republic to my «To Eat» list after reading about a their Deep Fried Hamburger. That will have to wait till next time. My wife and I went last night to discover so many more choices. I settled on the Pimiento and Bacon while she had the Tuna Steak burger. The buns are really exceptional and better yet… lots of waffle fries. Unfortunately, no room for desert after the burgers and the Jalapeño Cornbread app. Bree T., our server, was extremely eager, knowledgeable, and attentive. Tip her well. Chowboy Republic, Ya Hoo.

I admit to being skeptical on our initial approach to CR. I had seen some bits in local media informing us that it was under the same ownership as Flip Flops Grill and Chill two doors down in the same shopping mall. We don’t mind FFGC for what it is, that being fairly decent food at reasonable prices with a lively, island-​themed bar scene. It is what it is.
However, Chowboy Republic is definitely aiming for a different, more adult and less family-​ish vibe. When you walk in it feels like you are walking into a honkytonk whiskey bar, which is kind of cool. I appreciate a bar that specializes in hairy-​chested cocktails.
Anyway, the food is pretty spot on and actually came in a bit above our expectations. The brisket sushi was okay (I was hoping for it to be served over little nubs of rice ala nigiri-​style but it wasn’t to be). It was more like braised brisket with a sweet, soy-​saucey dipping sauce.
However, the burger was outstanding. I would even rate it as one of the best in this section of Virginia Beach. And at $ 11 you can’t beat the price. It even comes with a hefty side of waffle fries kind of sort of like what they serve at that chicken sandwich place.
Since this is so close to home I will be a frequent visitor, especially when I get that unmistakable burger craving that haunts me from time to time.

I have been here on 2 occasions and both times had a positive experience. The first time was a graduation celebration with friends. The hostess was new and a bit unsure but the owner and bartender jumped in to help. The second was a dinner with my husband. On both occasions the food was delicious with its own unique twist. Nothing ordinary here. The food, drink, and wine menus are carefully crafted with thoughtful selections. Craft beers, of course. I prefer wine and spirits! The owner’s background as a bartender is evident. Impressive! For dinner I had the fresh catch which was wahoo and it was extraordinary! You really owe it yourself to try! Chris has done it again!

After reading a few of the reviews I was hesitant to give give this place a try… Well I’m glad I did! Clearly the previous nasty reviews are from the same table of ladies who somehow had a bad experience… Not at all the case with us! Convenience store food? Really? Thats just rude and not at all the case! We thought it was amazing! The shrimp and grits are out of this world and so was the brisket sushi. The nutella cheesecake, I fear, is going to haunt my dreams! I will definitely be back!

There are 9 families that will never set foot in this place again! RUDE does not even begin to describe the behavior of the owner when we (9 women out for a birthday) had a problem with our checks. The customer is not always right, according to this guy, who said «This is not Red Lobster». Well, we will be going to Red Lobster next time. They can, at least, split a bill evenly for a large party.

The people who own the place are the same owners of the place next door, flip flops. The place has a great atmosphere definitely caters to all ages. I like the concept of simple American food with a twist. The starters are interesting debating on getting the waffle fries or the doritos nachos, but ended up getting the fries-​they were very good! They have daily specials so I ended up getting the tuna steak sandwich, oh yea! My spouse got the ranch burger, perfectly seasoned.
