I went here last August twice during my week stay on the island. Great place to get a fantastic cocktail or two, with a solid beer selection as well. The bartenders know their stuff, and do their own infusions. A rare thing in California now a days, so I defintely partook. Food was great as well! The lobster bisque must be ordered or you are doing it all wrong. No doubt a place to get a nice cocktail and delicious sit down meal in a very rustic and cool space.

Salt is the fanciest establishment on the island. The drinks are superb and the place is beautiful. It is clean and well designed. It is rather small so reservations fill up. I had a blackberry mojito, and my friend had a blueberry martini at the bar. We decided to return for dinner. I had a standard burger with an aoili mayo cooked medium rare. The burger was cooked a little more than medium rare but it was tasty. It was served with an fries and standard toppings(lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions). A friend had the lobster. Apparently, it was the last they had because another friend wanted the lobster as well but they were out. She ordered the lobster bisque instead. The lobster platter was rather small for the plate. We assumed that it would a lot since the island is known for lobsters. It was pretty much the same price we’d expect in Philadelphia. It was very good but more expensive then we would expect for Vinalhaven. Overall, I would recommend Salt. It was a very pleasant experience and by far the nicest on the island.

Salt is an unexpected treasure in an unlikely place. Vinalhaven is a small working town of lobstering families with a small number of seasonal residents. It’s unassuming, unchic, and definitely not a place anyone would expect to find beautifully executed and classic French sauces. Fresh, fresh ingredients define this place — from the local oysters to the side dishes. The lobster bisque was a creamy lobster– filled reduction that was exceptional. We enjoyed the scallops entrée accompanied with an unusual and beautifully prepared risotto. The hanger steak sat in a small pool of outstanding brown sauce, the frites were perfection. It’s a small, intimate place, a bit noisy… in a good way. The service was cordial and prompt. Silverware was replaced at each course. Entrees served promptly. Better than many bistros I’ve tried in NYC or its nearby cousin, Brooklyn. A lovely evening, $ 125 total, one drink each, two starters, two entrees, a shared dessert and espresso. We’ll be back soon.

Salt is a quaint little restaurant in a quaint little Maine island community but there is nothing quaint about their food. I was told by the locals to check out salt and they sure we’re right. Four of us went on a Saturday night. We all had seafood dishes and a few cocktails. Food was incredible. The Moscow mules were mixed perfectly. Ambiance was inviting, warm, and friendly. The chef came out and introduced himself at the end of the night. The perfect ending to a perfect dinner. It’s refreshing to know that there are friendly people who serve incredible food still out there. Couldn’t recommend it more!
